Zane Lewis – “Come With Me”
Songwriters: Branden Hart and Mark D. Sanders
Zane Lewis pours all the Dierksache he can muster into the first single release off his upcoming, self-titled album on Slant Records. “Come With Me,” a song about asking a woman to give him a chance, is a slow down from his self described fuel-injected country.
Lewis does a good enough job with the vocal, but the lyric has a number of problems. Whether Lewis is propositioning the woman or if the pair are already a couple isn’t really discernible as the perspective seemingly changes between the verses and chorus. While the song tries to keep from devolving into your typical giddy love song fodder about shouting from rooftops and running through raindrops, that’s exactly what it is despite the questionable lyrics about being dangerous and wild.
Even though it sounds like a Dierks Bentley knockoff and it’s not particularly strong in the lyric department, Lewis almost manages to pull this one off, but the lyric is just too weak to justify giving it a thumbs up.

If I wanted to listen to Dierks Bentley, I would listen to Dierks Bentley (which I do). Seriously, I agree with the review, this is just too average lyrically to go anywhere at Country radio.

Can you define “Dierksache”?
January 17, 2008 at 9:21 pm Permalink
Yikes! Yes… Merriam Webster Dictionary: “Dierksache” is the emphasis country singer Dierks Bentley exclusively puts into his musical performance of song lyrics that’s exclusively authentic, original and exudes real (country) heartache.” I’m kidding, but it’s pathetic to hear someone imitate Dierks so closely (and so badly, too). Too bad Dierks wasn’t given this song. He’d have taken it to #1.

He’d just need to discuss with Brett B. on changing that “CD changer” part. ;oP

… and the “raindrops” and the “rooftops”… Geezus. This song stinks (after 5 plays). I don’t particularly like this guy. He’s trying to sound like Dierks. (Go find your own style, buddy!) ;o(

Haha, I think Caroline did a pretty good job defining it, Chris. I need me a dictionary like the one she has.
Caroline – I gave a few of his other songs a listen on MySpace and they don’t rip off the Dierks sound the way this one does. Oh, and yeah, a little more than the CD changer part needs to be revised to elevate the lyric.

Well, I’ll have to really look into those songs (struggling to pull pants up and looking official). Yeah, I don’t want to knock the guy, but that’s all I’ve heard from him. It sounds like a blatant ripoff, what can I say. And I kind of feel sorry for Dierks cause he’s got such a strong distinctive style and it so emphasizes (new) country music today. I’ll check out this other guy’s music… and give him another chance… ;o|
