Your Take: How Big Of A Role Do Looks Play In Signing Artists?
Country Weekly is holding their Country’s Sexiest Man poll again this year. Last year’s winner was Keith Urban. You can choose one name from a list and vote, or add a name if it doesn’t appear on the list.
“And don’t worry, guys–the vote for Country’s Most Beautiful Woman is coming up soon.”
You can go vote here.

While features like this in magazines are all fun and games and garner a lot of attention, it also draws attention to a possible fault in the music business.
In an effort to promote the next big artist, do you think major record labels are signing the best looking artists instead of artists who might actually be better singers?

I wrote in for Hank Williams III. I don’t trust pretty musicians. They think they have less to prove and then go about doing just that.

Whos the dwarf with the taco hat in the top right, what a douche.
Of course today’s country music world is looking for the next top model instead of someone who can sing better. Mainstream America has come to this as well thanks to shows like American Idol. I was glad to see the new Nashville Star is a chunky chick. I am sure she will follow Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson’s path of bullemia, cocaine and red bull.

Baron – I agree with your thoughts somewhat, but from the list above I’ve heard that Brad Paisley is one of the hardest workers in the industry, along with Kenny Chesney. His divorce was caused by him being a workaholic. There’s quite a few other guys above that I think put out good material and don’t rely on their looks, either.
Casey – Those are some pretty harsh accusations. Do you have any proof that Underwood and Wilson are bulimic and use cocaine?

Brody – Yeah, I know there are exceptions to the rule, I just don’t trust a pretty face! And as per Chesney, just ’cause he’s working a lot don’t mean he’s producing anything worth having.

Zac Brown is one goofy lookin’ dude (like the prospector from those creepy clay-mation Christmas movies), and his band just got officially signed. There’s always the phenomenon of average looking guys all of a sudden becoming s-e-x-y when ladies hear them sing.
