Here are my picks for who I think will win:
Entertainer: Jason Aldean
Male: Brad Paisley or Blake Shelton
Female: Miranda Lambert
Duo: Sugarland
Group: Lady Antebellum (even though Zac Brown Band really deserve it)
Top New Artist: The Band Perry
Album: Need You Now
Single Record: “As She’s Walking Away”
Song: “The House That Built Me”
Video: “The House That Built Me”
Vocal Event: “As She’s Walking Away”
I’m expecting Blake to do a good job. The atmosphere of this show (Vegas) is suited to his kind of humor and the party image he has going on right now. I think he and Reba will play well off each other.
While I’ve had to participate in the fan voting, I’m rooting for The Band Perry in the new artist category. I wish the fans had voted Easton Corbin over Eric Church, though. That would make it a more even match with two red-hot new artists getting a shot at the big award. Eric is fantastic, but for this particular award, I wish Easton had won over him.

I agree. Blake being asked to join Reba was genius. I too thought Easton Corbin would win New Solo Artist of the year as well. Looks like some interesting performances on this show as well.

I think that the decision to have Blake co-host the show will turn out to be either fantastic or terrible. He generally appears to be a nice, funny, down-to-earth guy, but his propensity to say some less then PC things could have us looking at some bad headlines come Monday morning. Personally though, I think he will be hilarious.

Album of the year: If The Guitar Song doesn’t win it, my second choice would be Up On The Ridge. Single/song of the year (why two identical categories?), guess I’d have to go with “The House That Built Me.” I haven’t “voted,” because I doubt those tallies actually count.
April 2, 2011 at 1:28 pm
Single of the year and song of the year aren’t identical categories. There’s typically a lot of overlap in the nominations – more than there should be, in my opinion – but they go to somewhat different sets of people and purport to recognize different things. A song is a song; a single is a recording that embodies a performance.

*I’m not getting why so many people are pegging Miranda as the “clear” winner here. She didn’t have a bigger year than Carrie by any means. She had her biggest year personally, but compare it to Carrie’s stand-out year, and Miranda’s an obvious distant second.

Don’t have time right now to post predictions, but I will say that I think Ms Swift has something of a fighting chance…I’m in the UK and accompanied my teenage sister to a Taylor Swift concert, where each seat had a postcard on it telling us to vote for her in the ACMs, and she also took a break during a song to ‘ask’ us to vote…if she’s been doing this all over the world, she may well have a shot.
Personally, I voted for Brad.
April 2, 2011 at 4:26 pm
Yes, Taylor has really been begging for the votes and why not, it is fan voted and who but the fans are voting. These that get cocky and remark that they don’t give a crap what people think may find out they do care when it comes to being voted in for something as special as Entertainer Of The Year. Time tells.People(fans)count, I don’t care care how good you are.I’M guessing the big winner will be Brad.
April 2, 2011 at 5:34 pm
Entertainer: Taylor (should be Carrie though)
Male Vocalist: Blake Shelton (I have not been crazy about his recent singles, but I think he deserves some recognition for past songs that should have gotten him nominations/wins–The Baby, Nobody But Me, Austin, Goodbye Time)
Female Vocalist: Carrie Underwood
Duo: Sugarland
Group: Zac Brown Band
Album: Need You Now
Single: The House That Built Me
Song: The House That Built Me
Video: The Boys Of Fall
Vocal Event: As She’s Walking Away
New Artist: The Band Perry

I would assume those artists who have a following that is more up on tech voting (texting, etc.) will rule the day. Such as Swift, Underwood, Urban, Lady A, Sugarland. Not my picks. I am from the Strait, Johnson, Joey & Rory, and MG camp myself.
April 2, 2011 at 7:02 pm
I will make my usual prediction (which applies to all of these awards shows) and I’m always 100% correct! I predict with absolute certainty that I won’t watch this show nor give a flying turd about who wins what. These shows are utterly irrelevant to my love for, and enjoyment of, real country music in its more traditional forms.
On the other hand I do hope some snarky blogger types do live blogfests I can read well after the fact. Top choices for this task would be: Juli and Karlie, Jim Malec, and Rita Ballou and her Merry Band Of Whores. That way I get thoroughly entertained and don’t have to actually listen to any of the pop/rock/schlock modern country music these shows peddle to the pop culture obsessed masses. Yay Cloud! (lol)

@Rick – Amen brother, Amen. If Sunny were to show up and sing at the show, they would probably ssk, “What is that type of singing doing on a show like this?”
Best regards,

if people think derk and jimmy album is so great how come it has not sold millions if people think they are the best albums.
April 2, 2011 at 7:49 pm
Because listeners bought other artist’s albums more than “derk & jimmy”. Hmmmmmm.

Sales do not “prove” what’s best.
And if you think they do, there’d just as well be no awards, just sales charts.

Sorry, but this kid has brought more fans to country than anyone in a long time and is possibly one of the best at giving back to her fans than I’ve ever seen. I give credit where credit is due.

I seem to be in the minority but i think reba deserves to take home FVOTY, besides one #1 hit what else has miranda had. Reba had 3 top tens last year, including two #1 hits, she started the year and ended the year with a #1, Released a new album which hit the top 10 on the Billboard 200 making her the female country artist with the most top 10 albums on the chart. We all know it will probably be miranda, but she doesnt deserve to take home FVOTY in my opinion.

ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR
Taylor Swift will win.
If I had to pick who I wanted to win it would probably be Jason Aldean out of the choices. I went to one of his Wide Open concerts last year and he puts on a good show.
TOP MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Jason Aldean will win.
George Strait would be my choice.
TOP FEMALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR
Taylor Swift will win.
Miranda Lambert or Leann Womack is my choice.
TOP VOCAL DUO OF THE YEAR
Sugarland will win.
MG is my choice
TOP VOCAL GROUP OF THE YEAR
Lady Antebellum will win.
Zac Brown Band is my choice
ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Speak Now – Taylor Swift will win.
The Guitar Song – Jamey Johnson should win by a landslide. This album will eventually be on an alltime greats list.
SINGLE RECORD OF THE YEAR
“The House That Built Me” – Miranda Lambert
will win
•“A Little More Country Than That” – Easton Corbin
This one is my choice.
SONG OF THE YEAR
Same as above.
As you can see, I don’t have a lot of faith in how these awards turn out. That’s part of the reason I quit watching award shows.
