From The 9513′s album review:
“Robison steps up as the duo’s principal singer, and her plaintive wail–a neat cross between Sheryl Crow and Shawn Colvin–sounds like a relic from the early Lilith Fair years. She sings with an aching romanticism, twisting simple, straightforward melodies around evocative stories.” — Blake Boldt

“So Hard” from Taking The Long Way is my favorite Chicks song. The urgency of the vocal and the lyrics mesh so well.
June 3, 2010 at 7:28 am
Favorite DC song: Traveling Soldier.
June 3, 2010 at 8:50 am
My favorite DC song is Cowboy Take Me Away.
June 3, 2010 at 9:29 am
My favorite is “Tonight The Heartache’s On Me”
June 3, 2010 at 9:38 am
Definitely “Top of the World”. I actually teared up the first time I saw the video. Its the Chicks’ “Hotel California”.
June 3, 2010 at 9:45 am
“Not Ready to Make Nice” is my favourite Dixie Chicks song.
:)
June 3, 2010 at 10:04 am
My favorite memory was in October 2007 when I was invited backstage at the Chicks’ Nokia concert in LA and I celebrated my 50th birthday with them!
June 3, 2010 at 10:10 am
I’ve never attended any of their concerts, but they did create a documentary type where I was able to see them perform (I know…not the same thing) and discuss their issues in the wide open. I believe they are talented and very strong-willed. I only hope them the very best they can offer. I also think my favorite song is “Traveling Soldier” because it says a lot about love and gives a view point on soldiers in good light. May the duo continue their passion and love for music. My second fave is the controversial “Not Ready to Make Nice”…I don’t have to reiterate the reasons why here, it’s pretty obvious.
June 3, 2010 at 10:35 am
My favorite Dixie Chick song is “The Truth #2″. Natalie’s vocals just blow me away on it! And even though the song was recorded well before the overseas controversy, and they didn’t write it, the lyrics really foreshadowed what was about to happen in their lives. Country music misses them and it’s good to have something new from 66% of the Chicks!
June 3, 2010 at 10:36 am
Early on in their career, I was able to see the Chicks at a horse racing track in Cherry Hill, NJ. I went with my GF at the time, now my wife. She was not a huge country music fan but I can vividly remember Natalie thanking the fans for making Wide Open Spaces the number one song that week and dedicating it to all the girls out there leaving home.
We were going to go to see them as part of the Eagles/Keith Urbad set of concerts in Philly but they canceled the concert. damn!
June 3, 2010 at 10:41 am
Favorite song is Top Of The World…
June 3, 2010 at 10:56 am
My favorite memory of the Ditzy Twits was when some radio stations had “Dixie Chicks CD Burning Parties” after Natalie made her derogatory comments about then President Bush from a stage in London! That was a truly amazing marketplace response to the foolish public domain utterance of a confirmed “useful idiot”…
June 3, 2010 at 11:02 am
That was awesome, because all those people had to buy copies of their cd.
June 3, 2010 at 11:18 am
Favorite song – “Thank Heavens For Dale Evans”
Favorite album – THANK HEAVENS FOR DALE EVANS
June 3, 2010 at 12:13 pm
The Dixie Chicks memory that stands out the most for me was when I saw them at Lilith Fair in Columbia, MD. I’ve never seen so many ladies at a concert before… Anyway, if I had been warned that it was a “chick” festival, I probably wouldn’t have gone. I’m glad I did because the Dixie Chicks played an outstanding set!
June 3, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Favorite Song: “Am I the Only One (Who’s Ever Felt This Way)”
June 3, 2010 at 12:59 pm
cowboy take me away immediately takes me back to college and taking weekend roadtrips with friends to the shore. we used to sing dixie chicks songs the entire drive…
June 3, 2010 at 12:59 pm
Heard them for the first time on BBC Breakfast in England and they were brilliant, an immediate fan and looking forward to getting to know their work.
June 3, 2010 at 1:05 pm
I attended their concert in Detroit. When they sang Not Ready to Make Nice, omg, the crowd went wild, along with me. It was great.
June 3, 2010 at 1:06 pm
I could never pick a favorite song by the Chicks. They’re all so great. But one song I do love is Godspeed(Sweet Dreams)…I don’t have children yet but this song really tugs on my heartstrings as to how a mother feels about her children. The same goes for ‘Lullaby’ off of Taking The Long Way. :)
June 3, 2010 at 1:07 pm
It’s nearly impossible to pick just one favorite song or album because all of them are truly outstanding. However, I think Home is their best album and “Top of the World” is the best song off of it. Love them!! :)
June 3, 2010 at 1:09 pm
I have loved the Dixie Chicks since their first album, “Wide Open Spaces,” was released when I was in fourth grade. I remember listening to that album over and over. My favorite song is “Wide Open Spaces” because it influenced me to follow my dreams and to realize the world is full of opportunities. I also saw the Chicks in concert during their “Fly” tour, and the concert was amazing! And now, as a college graduate, I still love the Dixie Chicks. I supported them when it seemed like no one else did, and I will continue supporting them. They are very talented and will always be my favorite band.
June 3, 2010 at 1:09 pm
Landslide…came out as I was appropriately ending one very messy chapter of my life and it fit perfectly!
June 3, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Favorite song is Easy Silence…largely in part to this section…
“Easy silence that you make for me
It’s ok when there’s nothing more to say to me
And the peaceful quiet you create for me
And the way you keep the world at bay for me
The way you keep the world at bay
June 3, 2010 at 1:14 pm
I was at the DXC concerts in Denver, I thought it was the best entertainment ever. I like all their music. I laugh at the way they tak about “Goodbye Earl”. Don’t get any notions Emily.
June 3, 2010 at 1:17 pm
I would have to say my favorite would be between Landslide because it has a lot of meaning for my family and Travelin’ soldier because it is an amazing son.
June 3, 2010 at 1:18 pm
There are so many songs of theirs that I love (many are mentioned above). One of my favorites has to be “Lullaby”. It just sums up everything that you feel about your children :)
June 3, 2010 at 1:18 pm
Anything Dixie Chicks or Court Yard Hounds is Great!
June 3, 2010 at 1:19 pm
Ain’t no son is a great song. My favorite DC song is Silent House. It hit home I have an uncle with alzheimer’s.
June 3, 2010 at 1:20 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks song is “Wide Open Spaces”. I’ve followed them faithfully since ’98 and will continue to!
June 3, 2010 at 1:21 pm
The Dixie Chicks were the first band I saw live in a concert. I was 21/22 I think, they played the London Royal Albert Hall, it was the night after the Last Night of the Proms and I remember being amazed at how clean the Royal Albert Hall was after the previous nights celebrations!
I will always remember that night with the Chicks, they were my favourite band then and still are today. I find all three women inspirational and I began to learn the banjo because of Emily.
That night at the Royal Albert Hall I fell in love with the band all over again, the were fantastic live and always are. I still remember that night freshly in my mind. My mother went with me and she had the best time as well, it was the beginning of mother/daughter concert trips and it all started with the Chicks!
June 3, 2010 at 1:21 pm
My favorite DC song is “Wide Open Spaces” because it gives me strength everyday and my fav dc album is “Fly”!
June 3, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Adam: How did you miss that Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women In Music was a Chick Concert?
June 3, 2010 at 1:37 pm
Best memory- Getting in a cab at 2:30am in New York City, then waiting outside of ‘The Today Show’ with 4 of my friends for the Dixies to perform on the Plaza to promote the release of the “Home” album. There was nothing better than being there and hearing the opening chords to my favorite song, “Long Time Gone”, as they had been away for too long!
June 3, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Came Late To Work Today Because I “Replied-All” Court Yard Hounds CD on my alarm clock. So Worth It.
June 3, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Hearing the Dixie Chicks for the first time, from my best friend Dave. First song was “I can love you better” and I loved them instantly!
June 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm
Favorite DXC song: “Top of The World”
Runner up: “Walk Softly” with Ricky Skaggs
Favorite DXC memory: seeing them with James Taylor at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. I went with my husband & my brother & my sister-in-law. My brother has since passed… I will cherish that memory always. We were so excited when Neil Young surprised us by playing a couple songs—very cool!!! =)
I LOVE BLUEGRASS!!!
June 3, 2010 at 1:46 pm
“Fly” is my favorite Chicks song. My best friend and I used to sit in the car in the driveway and sing it! Thanks for the memories :)
June 3, 2010 at 1:49 pm
The Dixie Chicks are easily the best/most talented act ever…and I love Martie and Emily’s new project–so different and still so good.
Favorite Song: The Long Way Around
Favorite Album: Home
June 3, 2010 at 1:56 pm
Miss hearing Dixie Chicks being played on the radio. Cowboy Take Me Away is my favorite song and so happy to have at least part of the Dixie Chicks back. :)
June 3, 2010 at 1:59 pm
Wide Open Spaces: I was 5 when the video came out and i still remember dancing to it in my dads living room. When i was at gymnastics, i would sing it as i jumped on the trampoline. To this day, it remains in my top 10 songs.
June 3, 2010 at 2:00 pm
My favorite song is “Not Ready to Make Nice” — a great cathartic song.
June 3, 2010 at 2:07 pm
My favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks is from their July 22nd concert in 2006 at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA when Natalie was talking and forgot where she was going with what she began to say, and followed it up with “I…I, I just can’t find the words I’m looking for….gosh, I feel like the President!” – Considering this was after the whole President Bush controversy, it was an epic comeback in my opinion and everyone else who filled the arena that night!
June 3, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Favorite song: Let ‘Er Rip. DCX performing this song on The Rosie O’Donnell Show was my first exposure to their music; my Metallica listening, hard rock loving self did not know that this is what country sounded like, and I’ve been a fan ever since.
Favorite memory: meeting Martie and Emily when they were presenters on the Billboard Music Awards, two of the nicest stars I have ever met.
June 3, 2010 at 2:18 pm
I love “Silent House.” It’s all about the struggle of Alzheimers. This chilling disease stole away my grandfather and his memories. My favorite line in the song talks about carrying memories forward so that you can forget. The act of giving someone permission to forget, to say that losing the memories is ok because you are carrying them forward is a beautiful sentiment. I loved it so much that I based a series of mixed media pieces on this idea of memory and carrying the past forward, keeping it alive. Beautiful song, beautiful message.
June 3, 2010 at 2:30 pm
My favourite Dixie Chicks song is “I Like It”. It just shows their solid attitude of not backing down, and as the song tells, almost liking everything. It clearly portrays how the whole controversy didn’t make them lose hope. It’s just amazing how they handled everything!
June 3, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Dixie Chicks has a lot of great song, but probably my favorite is ‘Heartbreak Town”.
June 3, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Favorite CYH song is “Delight”. Such an uptempo song. Can’t help but get in a good mood
June 3, 2010 at 2:47 pm
My favorite CYH song is “It Didn’t Make A Sound”…always love an upbeat song about heartbreak…lol…cheers, Ladies!
June 3, 2010 at 2:48 pm
I love “Cowboy Take Me Away.” It’s what the Dixie Chicks is all about — Natalie’s voice accented with great harmonies, the beautiful fiddle solo from Martie, and the solid banjo playing by Emily.
June 3, 2010 at 2:50 pm
Can’t stand them personally and what they stand for. Maines’ mouth should be, oh well, enough said.
However, unlike Malec, I can judge one’s talent apart from political overtones and assertions.
DC was a unique group and talented. Great musicians and singers.
My favorite song was Earl. Why? Because I hate spousal and child abuse and this song took it head-on, had a very good tune and vibe to it, and had an strange sense of right judgment to it.
June 3, 2010 at 2:50 pm
“Cold Day in July” is probably my favorite DC song but I think I like Court Yard Hounds even better!
June 3, 2010 at 2:53 pm
“The Coast” is a classic but “It Didn’t Make A Sound” is my favorite…. no wait “Fairytale.” Just good music all around…
June 3, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Best concert ever – Top of the World Tour, Phoenix, AZ. I had 3rd row seats on the floor. I made a sign that said, “Natalie, I’ll trade you picks”(I had gotten Martie’s & Emily’s from other shows) – she obliged in between songs! She called me up to the front of the stage and switched with me. I was floored. When the show ended, a guy who was sitting in the front row came back to me & my mom and gave us his meet and greet passes! We went backstage and got to meet The Chicks- Natalie remembered me from trading picks, and told me she “didn’t have a house of blues pick, so that was a good trade!” We took a couple pictures and the could not have been any more nice! They signed all of the photos I had with me as well. SUCH a great group of girls, and I will never forget that day!
June 3, 2010 at 3:18 pm
I love all of the Chicks’ music, but remember with such fondness seeing them during the Fly tour in Houston. I was 29 and went with my 69 year old father and my 33 year old friend and her 10 year old daughter. We all stood the entire time, sang every word to every song and had an absolute blast. The fact that the fun spanned such an age range makes that concert one of my fondest memories for so many reasons. At that moment, that evening, life was perfect.
June 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm
Being in MSG in the chick pit and listening to the Dixie Chix triumph this grand arena & the audience after all that happen to them the year prior. It was amazing and unforgettable the entire performance felt so personable.
June 3, 2010 at 3:32 pm
one of my favorite songs by the chicks is without you, i have done this one alot in karaoke dives. love nat’s voice on every one of them
June 3, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Favourite song: So many but The Long Way Home really feels so close to my life.
Favourite memory: Two
1) When the Chicks played Toronto for the Taking the Long Way CD it was Hallowe’en. Just before the concert started, their children came on stage with their caretakers and left jack-o-lanterns they had carved as decorations.
2) Watching for the first time an audience singing “Goodbye Earl” along with the band and thinking that men must be really nervous to see so many women singing about killing a man with so much delight! :)
June 3, 2010 at 4:13 pm
My favorite DCX song is Lil Jack Slade. I just love the instrumentals, Martie wailing on fiddle and Em on banjo. Nothing but the best!
June 3, 2010 at 4:23 pm
My Fav ´Top of the World`. My Goddaughters Fav ´Mississippi`.She try to sing but she is only one Year old! :-)) She saw the Top of the World DVD complete at the age of ten months.
I love walk softly, too.I know this is with Ricky Skaggs but it´s one of the best.
P.S. I know my English is lousy :-)
June 3, 2010 at 4:25 pm
My favorite song is without a doubt Not Ready to Make Nice. It’s a powerful song that criticizes so much about society that no artist would ever dare to do.
June 3, 2010 at 4:34 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks song is ‘Hello Mr. Heartache’ that is if I have to choose for I like listening to all their work. As for the new CD…so far ‘Fairytale’ has me…although the entire CD gives me goose bumps…great sound…great work. Thanks for sharing:)
June 3, 2010 at 4:47 pm
My favorite Chicks memory is the first time I saw the documentary “Shut Up & Sing”. I was actually moved to tears a couple of times by their commitment to doing & saying what they felt was right & what they wanted to do as opposed to what was popular and/or expected of them.
June 3, 2010 at 4:54 pm
My first memory of country music really hitting me was driving with my from Denver to Copper Mountain pumping “Wide Open Spaces” back in 2000. Good times.
June 3, 2010 at 5:12 pm
I’ve been a fan for years and think that you forming this new/old group is fantastic (very blue grass/country). The best concert I think I ever went to was back in 2000, I believe, with some very good girl friends. The opening act was a Spanish group so we didn’t understand a thing they said but we had fun dancing and drinking then by the time y’all had come on we were ready to party and it was awsome. We screamed and sang along to every song and by the next morning I was horse, which was not good cause I was a telemarketer and it was the first day on the job. God that was fun!!!!!!!!!!
June 3, 2010 at 5:23 pm
Favorite Album: “Wide Open Spaces” – That was just such a special album. It had beautiful vocals and breathtaking production from start to finish. Every song on the album was special in its own way, and they all sounded like potential hits. There were no songs on that album that could be labeled as “filler.”
Favorite Songs: It’s a tie, and ironically, neither song is from the “Wide Open Spaces” album. “Long Time Gone” and “Landslide,” both from the bluegrass-tinged “Home” album, are my two favorites. The Chicks took a bit of a career gamble in releasing “back porch music” to country radio, but they beat the odds, scoring several big hits from that album. I love “Long Time Gone” because, besides being a fun and upbeat bluegrass romp, it has very clever lyrics that tell a story of one person’s journey in pursuing dreams of stardom. They even namechecked a few legends while they were at it, and commented on the boring state of country radio. That song was truly one of the greatest country songs of the decade.
I also loved how they put a bluegrass spin on the Fleetwood Mac classic “Landslide.” Despite being a huge Fleetwood Mac fan myself, I think that the Dixie Chicks outdid the original version of that song. The banjo and mandolin just sounded gorgeous, as did their harmonies. They totally reinvented the song, and made it sound better than ever.
My favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks is when my family tuned into CBS a few years ago and watched proudly as the Dixie Chicks won five well-deserved Grammy Awards. That was a proud night, not just for Martie and Natalie and Emily, but for country music. I was thrilled that, despite the controversy surrounding the group, they were still being given due recognition for their talent and artistry.
June 3, 2010 at 5:30 pm
I loved seeing DC in concert on a farm in AZ. They were so awesome, it was like being a star in a movie.
June 3, 2010 at 5:33 pm
“Cowboy Take Me Away” inspired me to start learning the violin 2 years ago. Martie’s fiddling is always fantastic, but there’s something about CTMA that is both inspiring and unique. Maybe it’s because Martie wrote both the song and the fiddle parts. Her technique is extraordinary. 2 years later, and I have only mastered the riffs, nowhere near as hard as her two fiddle solos. I love how her fiddle solos lift the song to a whole new level. It makes me want to “sleep on the hard ground… on a pillow of blue bonnets, and a blanket made of stars”!
Best country love song ever. I can listen to it over and over again.
June 3, 2010 at 6:26 pm
I first saw the Dixie Chicks at Lilith Fair in 1999. I’d had no experience with their music up to that point, but they were so fantastic that they immediately won me over and I became a fan for life. (I love the CYH album too!)
June 3, 2010 at 6:34 pm
I have several favorite Dixie Chick songs. It would be hard to pick. I LOVE “Goodbye Earl”. I got a front row seat at the Dallas 2006 DCX concert. It was unbeleivably exciting. Some othe friends that met on the MSN Dixie Chcik blog flwe down and we went together. Then we also went to the 2 of the October 2007 Dixie Chicks/Eagles concert in Los Angeles. both were great experiences.
June 3, 2010 at 6:34 pm
It didn’t make a sound and the coast are my two very favorite CYH songs, from their great new album. Keep on coming with those great songs.
June 3, 2010 at 7:23 pm
My adoration for my Texas girls has never wavered. Each song is my favorite and now I have the beautiful new Court Yard Hounds CD with the awesome cut-out and lyrics book, plus the handwritten frameable lyrics poster. I just thought I was in heaven and then I found the “Very Best of the Dixie Chicks!” I wish you were coming to Houston for the Eagles Summer 2010 Tour! I’ve written a special article in my column (website above)for you all I hope you will read. It’s the way we all feel about you…we love and miss you! God Bless You, Martie, Emily and Natalie.
June 3, 2010 at 7:40 pm
I love the Court Yard Hounds’ album. I am addicted to it. It’s perfection.
June 3, 2010 at 8:22 pm
I can’t pick a favorite song, because my favorite changes so often depending on what is going on in my life. My favorite chicks moment has to be the Entertainment Weekly cover shot. I was very proud you did not back down and crumble, and came back stronger then ever.
June 3, 2010 at 8:43 pm
“I’m not ready to make nice” hit my reality a few years ago almost perfectly. This song helped me learn to forgive someone whom I had supported in a career advancement, after the promotion happened, the “knife in my back” hurt to much. I am going to be 58 and wonder if I will ever stop over-trusting people. With help and prayer, I was able to forgive, but I have never forgotten the betrayel. The Dixie Chicks music has helped me get through a lot since they started. I enjoy the Court Yard Hounds music, but the Dixie Chicks are in my heart! I miss them. The documentory was awesome! If I could afford to go to a concert I would LOVE to see them. sigh. Thank you for the music. Thank you for singing and speaking truth. much luck to all of you!!!
June 3, 2010 at 9:17 pm
Wide Open Spaces my fav but much prefer the vocals of Courtyard Hounds. Coming to see you at the Britt Festival in Jacksonville Or this summer. Can’t wait.
June 3, 2010 at 9:42 pm
I don’t really have a favorite Dixie Chicks or Court Yard Hounds song because they have all touched me in a different way. But I also respect these talented, not to mention beautiful, women and their capacity to sing their songs like they mean it, from the heart. Which is becoming more and more rare in music these days. Keep rockin’ on girls!! You’re an inspiration to everyone in more ways than you know!
June 3, 2010 at 9:49 pm
I love the Dixie Chicks. I’ve been listening to them since I was about seven. I love their harmonies, and vocals. My favorite DC songs are Wide Open Spaces, and Cowboy take me away. I love Wide Open Spaces and Cowboy Take Me Away because of the way Emily plays her banjo on those two. Her banjo skills on those two songs are awesome. I should mention that I’m now 18, and I’m blind. I’m trying to become the first ever blind person to play the banjo just like Emily. She is my hero. I also love her voice.
June 3, 2010 at 10:25 pm
I love all the Chicks music. I first started listening to them after I heard about their Top of the World tour and what they said about Bush. They inspired me to start singing and learn to play guitar. Every single one of their songs is my favorite.
June 3, 2010 at 10:27 pm
traveling solider..
but love the bruce robison version.
June 3, 2010 at 10:31 pm
My favorite memory was at my 2nd Dixie Chicks concert I was wearing a shirt with a tie at the back like the one Natalie wear’s in Goodbye Earl as soon as they came onto the stage I was so excited I started jumping up and down and the string on my shirt ripped I flashed the Chicks and the audience, I spent the rest of the concert wearing a heavy fleece jacket I didn’t let that stop me from enjoying the concert!
June 3, 2010 at 11:16 pm
my favorite memory would be when my cousin and amber and I annoyed the crap out of our grandparents as we sung “good bye earl” for 3 hours straight as we drove to PA from DE. …. we were 11
June 4, 2010 at 12:21 am
I love so many songs I don’t think I can pick just one favorite. I have been to four Dixie Chicks concerts. My favorite moment would have to be at the “Top of the World” tour where my best friend and I signed up for front row seats outside the gates of Mellon arena in Pittsburgh, and my name was called! I got to see my all time favorite band front row! :-)
June 4, 2010 at 2:45 am
“Not Ready To Make Nice.” She said what others wanted to and took the beating. Then, she stood back up and gave ‘em hell.
June 4, 2010 at 5:02 am
It has to be Some Days u Gotta Dance as my fav DC track especialy live grt memory of a Florida hol it was the only cd i had in the car i played it loud n proud – every day lol
June 4, 2010 at 6:17 am
Cowboy Take Me Away.
Ever since hearing that song I have had a rule that I won’t think about any relationship with a girl who doesn’t like the song.
Also the line ‘Fly this girl as high as you can into the wild blue’ really appeals to a pilot, who can do just that.
June 4, 2010 at 8:29 am
Not ready to make nice is one of the best written social and personal commentaries I’ve seen from any recent Country artist/group. That said, Without You & You Were Mine are my favorite chicks song.
June 4, 2010 at 9:05 am
When I was 13, my family spent part of one summer in a vacation cabin with some good family friends. My favorite memory is driving around the back roads and blasting “Goodbye Earl” and singing along at the top of my lungs!
June 4, 2010 at 9:43 am
My favorite song is Travelin’ Soldier…such an amazing heartwrenching song
June 4, 2010 at 9:49 am
I love the Dixie Chicks. Seeing them in concert are great memories. My favorite song is Sin Wagon. My favorite CYH song is Then Again. I hope they come to Alberta!!!!
June 4, 2010 at 11:27 am
I remember I was hooked on the Chicks from “There’s Your Trouble”, and the single “You Were Mine” solidified by passion for these three amazingly talented women. Since then they have never disappointed me, and have gotten better with each subsequent album. I remember when they first were touring for Wide Open Spaces, my mom tried to get me tickets, but we weren’t able to. But somehow she won tickets to meet and greet the chicks before hand. While we were there talking with the girls, she mentioned to Natalie that we couldn’t stay for the show because we couldn’t get tickets, and Natalie was so upset that she invited my mom and I to come watch the show from the side. It was amazing. They are truly phenomenal women and will always have a place in my heart.

I love all the chicks songs cant pick just one. I love the home album the most because my husband (bf at the time) bought it for me for my bday. i had never owned a chicks cd i was so excited! he also took me to the home concert and the seats were GREAT. The chicks songs really helped me through my teenage years (which were hell). And as an adult and mother i still love them and the songs still get to me. The Chicks are the greatest and court yard hounds is going to be just as great. THANKS CHICKS!
June 4, 2010 at 8:32 pm
my favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks was when my sister and I went to their Top Of The World Concert in Nashville. We were all pschyed and we listened to their songs all the way up to the then(Gaylory Entertainment Center). My mom was nice enough to put up with the screaming out the windows of out saturn, ha. When the Dixie Chicks came out on stage, we screamed like screming was going out of style. Both my sister and I cried like crazy. We love the Dixie Chicks. We had a blast throughout the whole concert, including the encore of Sin Wagon with all the confetti falling. Thank You Dixie Chicks for such an awsome night!
June 4, 2010 at 9:11 pm
My favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks is when i am walking through the family land, checking the crops, and listening the song Cowboy take me away, especially the part when it says, “i wanna touch the earth i wanna break it in my hands i wanna grow something wild and unruly”.
It’s so inspiring!!!
June 4, 2010 at 9:13 pm
I love the Dixie Chicks! What talent! They are awesome. The music is great. They have amazing harmony. I have a lot of favorite songs. One of my favorites is Silent House. The words are so touching and thought provoking. I also love Traveling Soldier. I had that tune in my head on memorial day.
June 4, 2010 at 10:26 pm
“Cowboy Take Me Away” still sounds like perfection to me. Beautiful intro, exceptional imagery. That’s a song that has aged well.
Was so difficult to pick just one song!
June 4, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Top of the World. What a great, sad song.
June 4, 2010 at 11:15 pm
My favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks was on August 4th 2003 when I saw them in concert for the first time. Watching these three women that I had loved for so long rise up out of that stage and sing to me for a few hours was truly an awesome experience and is an awesome memory.
June 4, 2010 at 11:53 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks memory was the reaction of the crowd during & especially after they sang “Not Ready to Make Nice” at their concert at Madison Square Garden 8/01/06..so mind-blowingly powerful!
June 5, 2010 at 1:32 am
Right now my favorite is “Not Ready to Make Nice”. I’m hoping the Chicks will cross on over to rock’n'roll and let us love them for who they are and their immense talent and heart. It had to hurt to be so abused by the fickle country bumpkin fans, but fools are to be more pitied than hated. Our hearts are open, our tent is large, and we will overcome the evil that has lodged itself in the souls of our conservative republican fox-watching neighbors. Thank you, Emily and Martie, for the new songs. Please sing for us again soon Natalie. I hope you and yours are happy and well.
June 5, 2010 at 6:30 am
I LOVE the dixie chicks. They are my favorite band. I love all their songs, I guess one of their cd’s that I listen to te most is Fly. I remember the first concert I went to it was their Top of the world tour, it was the best concert I have ever went too. I love you Natalie, Marty and Emily! Thanks for making such beautiful and moving music for us!
June 5, 2010 at 7:50 am
My wife and I and two friends went to see the Dixie Chicks in Philly during the Fly Tour. I went with my wife, who is a huge fan, just to have something to do. Well, I was blown away by the show and have been a big fan ever since! I love that Marty!!!!!!!
June 5, 2010 at 8:03 am
It’s a toss up between “Sin Wagon” and “White Trash Wedding.” Two of the of the Dixie Chicks offbeat and quirkest songs.
June 5, 2010 at 9:47 am
My favorite songs would be “Top of the World” and “Cowboy Take Me Away.” I’ve seen them in concert once and I am amazed by how well they play! Love, love, love the Chicks!
June 5, 2010 at 9:50 am
My favorite song is “Wide Open Spaces” – the notion of going out west and building a new life is something I can fully relate to.
June 5, 2010 at 10:27 am

brilliant album
June 5, 2010 at 11:22 am
Wow, there are so many fantastic Dixie Chicks songs, but my favorite is probably ‘Top of the World’. Such simple yet poignant lyrics and that haunting violin…a few months ago, I was suffering from a long-term illness (I still am) and was letting myself use it as an excuse to do very little and feel sorry for myself. I was listening to my ‘Home’ CD and was crying by the end of the song, feeling that I myself had broken the wings of the little songbird with so much potential, myself. Cheesy as it sounds, it definitely made me stop and think and was pretty the spark for me to start trying hard again despite my illness, enjoying life, working a lot, and not getting complacent.
That said, many if not all of the Dixie Chicks’ songs are fantastic, beautifully constructed, and as often amusing as they are sad. I love them.
June 5, 2010 at 11:54 am
I sure hope the cd is worth the $31.98 I paid, because the “extras” certainly were not. Sony’s complete lack of customer service, notwithstanding.
June 5, 2010 at 1:13 pm
To choose a favourite among the Dixie Chicks songs, are very hard. There are so many good songs, like “Easy Silence”, “Travelin’ Soldier”, “Cowboy Take Me Away”, “Top Of The World”, “I hope” and “Cold Day In July”. If I have to choose though, I think I’ll say Easy Silence”. Such pretty lyrics, and wonderful message. It brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it, as does the others. Thank you for making such wonderful heartmoving music!
June 5, 2010 at 1:54 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks is the dvd “An evening with The Dixie Chicks”. It has an intemate and wonderful atmosphere.
June 5, 2010 at 2:43 pm

June 5, 2010 at 3:07 pm

favorite CYH song: See You in the Spring
June 5, 2010 at 5:34 pm
The song “Taking the long way” really means a lot to me because it says exactly what my life is and was like. It means to me that I can take the long way and still survive. Life is not over even though I don’t do it the typical way that everyone else does it. My life has been so crazy trying to live with my bi-polar disability has been a big struggle but that song gave me hope. So even if I don’t win this contest that song saved my life and I am ever greatful for that. I want to thank the Dixie Chicks for their inspiration and encouragement. Thank you
June 5, 2010 at 6:38 pm
i love the chicks and i can’t go one day without listening to the cd wide open spaces. that cd makes my day because all the songs on it relate to most of our lives, especially mine. i can love you better is my favorite song because natalie throws her whole heart into it as does emily and martie. go chicks go
June 5, 2010 at 6:49 pm
Truth number 2 is my favorite D.C. song. It makes me wonder that Truth number 1 is. Oh, that and what the “pearls of water on my hips” might entail. Just one more reason the world’s dangerous, I guess.
June 5, 2010 at 7:02 pm
Chicks Magic Forever & Always…
Glad you are back to doing what you do best.
The world missed you!
I will surely hitch my wagon to this latest version of the magic of sisters two from Texas.
Resurrected there in as the great bird itself; may your dreams fly long and far and forever show a guiding light. As you two step your way back into our hearts I shall forever hold yours close to mine.
Sincerely,
Brandon W. Jack
June 6, 2010 at 2:01 am
The long way around is one of my favorite songs. I love how the song starts from the beginning of their career and how they have always had each others backs and always will, and that they aren’t out to kiss anyone’s butt. Fabulous role models for females of all ages.
June 6, 2010 at 9:54 am
My favorite Dixie Chicks song is “Cowboy Take Me Away.” It always puts me in a better mood.
June 6, 2010 at 10:07 am
My Favorite Memory is the Dixie Chicks sweep of the 2007 Grammy Awards.
June 6, 2010 at 1:58 pm
My favorite memory by far is traveling 4 hours one way to see the Chicks, then turning around and traveling 6 to see them again two days later. What makes the memory so sweet is that I did it all with a dear friend. The time spent with her was even better than the concerts — and those concerts were amazing!
June 6, 2010 at 2:04 pm
My favorite song is Taking the long way around. I feel like it’s telling a lot about life aswell, and I love when you can see your self in a song. Greetings Katrine
June 6, 2010 at 2:04 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks , is the DVD “An evening with The Dixie Chicks”. It’s the most often played DVD in my collection. My most favorite songs are Travelin Soldier, God Speed and Top of the world.
June 6, 2010 at 2:54 pm
Choosing a favorite album is near impossible as they are all almost perfect (IMO). Typically, I like the newest one the most so I’d probably go with that. However, if you haven’t checked out their documentary, Shut UP and Sing, you need to. Its required viewing.
June 6, 2010 at 3:40 pm
Favorite Song: Top of the World
Favorite Memory: Watching the “Top of the World” music video at the Top of the World Tour in San Antonio, TX.
The song has many emotional elements and meanings which makes it universal to everyone.
June 6, 2010 at 8:38 pm
Favorite song is the first Chicks song I ever heard (actually “SAW” the video) “Wide Open Spaces” – loved it then and love it even now!
June 6, 2010 at 9:39 pm
My favorite memory of the Dixie Chicks was back in 1998, right after the release of “Wide Open Spaces,” I took my sister to see the girls at the New Jersey Garden State Fair in Cherry Hill. The girls were 45 minutes late getting on stage and I nearly wanted to leave because it was hot and muggy. Not to mention, there were feather boas on the mic stands, which I thought was very 1988. Mind you, I had seen the “original” Dixie Chicks at a fair in 1994 and wasn’t sure what I really was in for. But when Natalie started to sing from behind the stage, I got goosebumps up my arms. It was perhaps one of the most inspiring moments of my life. When the girls came together to sing “You Were Mine,” I could feel the hurt in the song. When they went instrumental and performed “Roanoke” which flowed into “Hey Dixie”, it showed their musical prowerness. I was beyond amazed. I was then, at that moment, a certified Chicks fan for life.
June 6, 2010 at 11:46 pm
My favorite Dixie Chick memory was the moment Natalie, Emily and Martie rose up from beneath the stage and began to play “Goodbye Earl” on their Top of the World Tour. That tour was SO amazing and every time I hear that song I think of how pumped I was that they didn’t back down and they still went on tour that year! I LOVE YOU NATALIE!
June 7, 2010 at 3:35 am
There is no way I can pick a favorite song from the DC. I love all the songs and albums and have been listening to them from the beginning. I traveled to Salt Lake City to see them and it was the BEST concert. I supported them when it seemed no one else was and I still support them and always will.
June 7, 2010 at 9:51 am
I have to say that I love “You were Mine”. But I also love “Lubbock or Leave it”.
June 7, 2010 at 9:52 am
My wife and I saw the Dixie Chicks open for the Eagles while on our honeymoon in 2007 and are looking forward to seeing them again when they hit Giant Stadium in a few days.
June 7, 2010 at 11:35 am

Well that and the superb use of instrumentals to make it so.
June 8, 2010 at 3:11 am
i love you were mine. It’s such an emotive song and the melody and Natalie’s voice suit the lyrics perfectly. I wish it was on the top of the world tour cd, which btw is my favourite album ever of any artist
June 8, 2010 at 7:51 am
Sin Wagon, Natalie seems to have so much fun with it when she belts it out…maybe the song has something to do with the little devil in her..I would like do do a little mattress dancing with ??? if you know what I mean!
June 8, 2010 at 7:55 am
I would like do do a little mattress dancing with ??? if you know what I mean!
No. Please explain.
June 8, 2010 at 1:26 pm
My favorite Dixie Chicks song is “Top of the World”. It brings back memories of my Mom; who I lost only 2 years ago.
June 8, 2010 at 1:29 pm
My favorite songs are tied.
One definitely has to be Easy Silence from their Taking the Long Way album. It’s just so raw and real, and Natalie’s voice is just amazing. So powerful, and meaningful. I always find myself singing along at the top of my lungs in the car, in my room, or at a friends house. It really makes me cry, because it’s so true.
My other favorite has to be Goodbye, Earl. That’s the first Dixie Chicks song I heard, and I was quite young. It just makes me want to dance, and sing at the top of my lungs. It’s such a fun (and funny) song. I love it.
I grew up around punk and rock music, mostly from my brothers. But my father is purely country. The Dixie Chicks are the first country band he showed me, and I’ve been a huge fan for years and years. They are the reason I love country music. Their music has gotten me through so much, whether it was being bullied when I was younger, pulling me through losing a close friend or family member to death, or inspiring me to get through writers block (since I am a young, aspiring writer).
I bought the Court Yard hounds album without hesitation, without listening to any of the songs beforehand, just knowing that it would be amazing. It’s a different path from the Dixie Chicks, but it’s GOLDEN. I love both bands, and I will till the day that I die.
Winning this autographed cd/dvd and poster would make me truly happy, because it would be a little piece of my biggest influences, and the people I look up to the most.
June 8, 2010 at 1:48 pm
My favourite songs is cowboy take me away, the first song I heard from chicks. It was the first song I heard just after I recover from my heart attack. So, it remembers me how happy I am to be alive. Great cd the new one, and happy to hear from emily and martie again
June 8, 2010 at 1:51 pm
“Not Ready to Make Nice’ is great music. Powerful, heartfelt, and a signifier of what the Dixie Chicks have come to mean for so many of us. I love this new album, but I miss Natalie.
June 8, 2010 at 6:36 pm
If I HAD to choose a favorite Dixie Chicks song it would have to be “The Long Way Around”. It just really speaks to me as far as where I am in my life right now as a college student taking such a long time to find her way.
June 8, 2010 at 7:17 pm
we are stoked to see the Chicks for the first time later this week at the new GIANTS stadium w/Urban and the Eagles -
-BozNation
June 8, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Wide Open Spaces is my fav song. it came out right about the time i was going to college to make my own way, always brings back those memories to makeing my own way
June 8, 2010 at 7:51 pm
definately not ready to make nice, definately…I’m just grateful to them for writing music that means something, you can tell they write and they play because they love it and that’s real music.
June 9, 2010 at 11:08 am
Like many others, favorite DC song is Not Ready to Make Nice. It’s such a great commentary on the sad segment of the population that has moved so far away from one of the the founding principals of our country – tolerance and acceptance of opposing ideas and ideals.
June 9, 2010 at 11:58 am
I just saw the Dixie Chicks last night (June 8) in Toronto … they were amazing. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a chance to see them in concert and I jumped at it. I was determined that no matter how much it cost and no matter what, I’d be there. I had the good fortune to share the experience with my best friend.
My favourite song of theirs is “Easy Silence” … it just reminds me of how grateful I am to have people around me that bring me peace, no matter what else is going on in my life or in the world.
June 9, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Favorite song: Travelin’ Soldier, which I’ve also enjoyed playing on guitar with friends. Plenty of good memories go with this song.
June 9, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Not Ready to Make Nice is my favorite song. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. I guess coz the girls (Natalie in particular) were going through such tribulations at the time…and I agreed with her comments…
June 9, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Always knew Emily was a lead vocal.
Saw all their concerts in Columbus, OH.

LOVE the name !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 10, 2010 at 3:36 pm
I started listening to the Dixie Chicks when I was four and still haven’t stopped. I started playing the Violin in 6th Grade and was inspired by Marty to play as good as her and have fun with it. I love the Dixie Chicks, their vocals, their natural melody, and the messages in their songs. My favorite Dixie chicks song is “Hole In My Head” and its my favorite because it remindes me of the idiot boys out there and i’m lucky that right now none of them are after me…
My favorite Album is “Home”
June 10, 2010 at 4:26 pm
I don’t have a favourite Dixie Chicks song because I love all of them and its difficult to pick my favourite Courtyard Hounds song ,because both Natalie ,Emily and Martie are amazing singers and instrument players .
June 10, 2010 at 4:49 pm
‘Top of the World’ is my favorite DC song. It’s deep and moody; it gives me chills and leaves me wanting more.
June 10, 2010 at 10:09 pm
Just saw the Chicks in Toronto, 06/08/10, they truly enjoyed a night of playing music together. “Hey Soul Sisters” have left behind the past and are embracing the fruits of their labor. It’s great to see them smiling again!
June 10, 2010 at 10:39 pm
I love “not ready to make nice”. I love most of their music.
June 12, 2010 at 5:52 am
Excellent band. Just watch appearance on David Letterman. It cooked.

My favourite Dixie Chicks song is “Without You”, because it’s such a beautiful ballad. It makes you want to sing it out loud. I love it.
And the album “Fly” is my favourite, followed by “Taking the Long Way”. They’re so different from one another, but both so good.
June 13, 2010 at 7:14 pm
I love all of the Dixie Chicks albums, and I also love the new one from the side band, Court Yard Hounds!!!!!! All of the albums are great, and the songs are great too. I love all of the songs, and I think that my all time favorite song is cowboy take me away. I love that song because it’s so romantic, and sweet. It reminds me alot of my boyfriend, and me. My favorite Dixie Chick is Emily. She is my favorite because she plays banjo. I am blind, and I want to learn to play the banjo because she has inspired me to want to learn how to play.
June 13, 2010 at 8:05 pm
Oct 2-2004 my daughter Janet got to meet the chicks through the Make A Wish Foundation. They were & still are her fav group.Their music helped her get through an eternity of bad times. Things are great for her now & she still loves the chicks & tries to keep up with any news about them. As I write this she is listening/watching a DVD of them sing Godspeed, before she goes to sleep. Their music has truely been a blessing to her & they were so very kind to her when she met them. Our family wishes them continued happiness & success

June 15, 2010 at 3:53 am
I LOVE Goodbye Earl. Great song and I loved the music video.
June 15, 2010 at 1:38 pm
I love this album already. Every song the Dixie Chicks have is great in its own right. I find it hard to pick one!
June 15, 2010 at 3:06 pm
My favorite Chicks’ song is “Not Ready to Make Nice” for so many reasons, but primarily because here they were, exercising one of the very principles we in this country (USA) say we live and die for, and then to have been treated so harshly by “fans”, people, radio, and the industry…well, it was just refreshing to see all of that put into a song that summarized so beautifully and melodically that entire period. I get emotional every time I hear it, and thinking about what it means, what they went through, how strong they were together and supportive of each other…that song is amazing and a gift.
June 15, 2010 at 4:16 pm
my favorite Dixie Chicks song is Sin Wagon, good vocals and music. I turn this one up when I hear it.
June 15, 2010 at 10:16 pm
I attended the concert at the united center in Chicago on my birthday… my favorite was Landslide…I could swear Natalie winked at me when she was singing…I tried to get her number but I guess she didn’t hear me…ahh the luck of the Irish. Natalie, maybe next time we can have coffee with a touch of that Irish whiskey …
June 16, 2010 at 1:39 am
well, i attended 2 shows both tours when they visited Indianapolis, IN. AWESOME! fave song is “cowboy take me away” and the reason is this. on my first date, with my now husband,(feb. 23, 2001) when i arrived at his home, (blind date) he had the chicks cd playing for me because he had been told i was a huge fan. he had gone and bought it that day. 1 year later, (feb. 23, 2002) we were married and “cowboy take me away” was part of the wedding slide show!
June 16, 2010 at 2:52 am
Well!!!!! My favorite Dixie Chicks(<3) Song would have to be… "Without You" because I can relate to this song…. I mean there is many other ones I can relate to but that would have to be the most relate-able one for me!!!!!!!!!
