Win a Copy of Jerrod Niemann’s Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury
Jerrod Niemann’s current single, a rock cover he re-titled “Lover, Lover,” is climbing the charts and currently resides in Billboard’s Top 10. Considering his most notable accomplishments to date include co-writing three singles for Garth Brooks, particularly the tribute to Chris LeDoux “Good Ride Cowboy,” it’s no surprise that 10 of the 12 tracks on his debut album for Sea Gayle/Arista Nashville bear his name in the writing credits. Judge Jerrod and the Hung Jury will be released tomorrow.

My favorite name for a backing band is Jack Ingram’s “Beat-Up Ford Band.” I think that the name fits the group perfectly because of the vulnerability Jack always shows in his writing, revealing himself to be a guy that has seen a lot, like a beat-up Ford.

Tom Hambridge and “The Rattlesnakes” …

July 12, 2010 at 2:01 pm
Dierks Bentley’s “Terminally Lonesome” band.
July 12, 2010 at 2:02 pm
I like the name of Jason Boland’s backing band, “The Stragglers”.
July 12, 2010 at 2:13 pm
Alan Jackson’s band – The Stray Horns.
July 12, 2010 at 2:19 pm
Gotta say Tim McGraw & the Dancehall Doctors on this one.
July 12, 2010 at 2:32 pm
Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives
July 12, 2010 at 2:37 pm
Brad Paisley’s band “The Drama Kings.”
July 12, 2010 at 2:42 pm
I too love the “Dancehall Doctors” band name (even though they probably haven’t played in a true dance hall in years) ;-)
July 12, 2010 at 2:43 pm
Since the Fabulous Superlatives have already been mentioned, Hank Williams and the Drifting Cowboys.

If you want a straight country act then either Merle Haggard’s Strangers or Jack Greene’s Jolly Green Giants will suffice.
If you want something more out there CW McCall’s band, known initially as the OLD HOME BAND, later as the FORT CALHOUN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT BOYS, and finally as MANHEIM STEAMROLLER, are a good choice

Willie Nelson’s Family seems accurate.
July 12, 2010 at 3:15 pm
I’ll add another vote for Tim’s Dancehall Doctors.
July 12, 2010 at 3:25 pm
I’d have to say Dancehall Doctors. I always seem to smile when I hear that name.
July 12, 2010 at 3:26 pm
My Favorite is Josh Turner’s “The Tonkin’ Honkies” just gives me a chuckle
July 12, 2010 at 3:27 pm
The Zac Brown Band and Jerrod would be great
July 12, 2010 at 3:55 pm
You didn’t specify it had to be a country band, so I’m going with the 60′s pop group “Wayne Fontana And The Mindbenders”! My second choice is a local psychadelic LA rock band that goes by the name “Zodiac Mindwarp And The Love Reaction”. Gee I just noticed the common there is warped minds! Hmm…(lol)
PS – Jerrod’s album goes in sale Tuesday at Best Buy for $ 6.99 for the rest of the week, so this contest needs to end quickly!

Shooter Jennings and the .357′s

Just saw him at Billy Bob’s last night. Great fun show. Lee Brice was there and sang as well.
Super nice guy. Got the CD with admission so don’t need it so give it to someone else.
CD is great. Different and fun. Not sure who the market is exactly but have listened to it a half dozen times and really enjoy it.
Got to meet Jerrod and Lee-both cool guys. I have met a good chunk of country artists and was impressed.

Ok, so he’s not well known, but Craig Curtis in Nashville has a backing band called the Rat Bastards. That’s a phrase he’s used many times, for whatever story he’s telling, when he playing the bars on Broadway and the area. Got a chuckle when I heard the backup band’s name.
July 12, 2010 at 5:07 pm
KathyP, I’m not so sure about the name of Craig Curtis’ back-up band. From what I’ve read the name “Rat Bastards” has been trade marked by the Obama administration as an official inside name for Obama’s cabinet, Obama’s czars, and all of the Democrats currently in Congress…

I’ve always loved Corb Lund & The Hurtin’ Albertans.
July 12, 2010 at 5:36 pm
I’ve always thought Tim McGraw’s Dancehall Doctors was a great name – but the Hung Jury beats it.
July 12, 2010 at 5:39 pm
The Drama Kings – Brad Paisley
July 12, 2010 at 6:55 pm
Jonathan Singleton & The Grove – something about their name always sounded cool to me.
July 12, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Jack Ingram’s Beat Up Ford Band!
July 12, 2010 at 9:27 pm
I always thought “The Excentric Gears,” would be a good name for a backup band.
July 12, 2010 at 9:36 pm
Terry Anderson and the Olympic Ass Kicking Team.
I always love bands that get equal billing in the name (i.e. Tommy Petty and The Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band) and this name just jumps off the page at you. The first time I heard the band it was during Mojo Nixon’s “Loon in the Afternoon” program on Sirius Outlaw Country. The name flashed on the display and I just laughed. The song was pretty good so I immediately went home and got every song of theirs I could possibly get a copy of on my computer.
So for at least one person the name opened the door.

george srtaits band..the ace in the hole band
July 12, 2010 at 10:43 pm
I’ll have to go with the Ace in the Hole Band as well.
I think it’s that I love their sound so much and that I always simulataneously hear “Ace in the Hole” in my head and think of Jesse James’ Hole in the Wall Gang whenever I hear or see their name.
July 13, 2010 at 3:08 am
The Dancehall Doctors…. And I love how everyone mistakes “The Long Road To Love” with a backinh band.
July 13, 2010 at 6:34 am
…would “the lost trailers”, who are seemingly more of a back-down band these days, count too?
July 13, 2010 at 6:49 am
Ryan Shupe & the Rubber Band
Trent Summar & the New Row Mob
July 13, 2010 at 7:39 am
Toby Keith’s “EASY MONEY BAND”!
July 13, 2010 at 10:42 am
I’m with kris. Dierks Bentley’s “Terminally Lonesome” band (TLB) is my favourite.
July 13, 2010 at 10:58 am
The Country Gamblers sound good, because making a country hit really is a gamble. Soome of the best songs don’t go anywhere, and the ones you think aren’t too great end up being # 1.
July 13, 2010 at 12:41 pm
George Strait’s “Ace In The Hole” band
July 13, 2010 at 1:29 pm
Toby Keith’s Easy Money
July 13, 2010 at 3:05 pm
I have to agree with Tim McGraw’s Dancehall Doctors.
July 13, 2010 at 3:56 pm
George Strait Ace in the Hole
July 13, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Oh, definitely the ‘hurtin albertans!
July 15, 2010 at 1:02 pm
Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters and Merle Haggard and The Strangers.
July 16, 2010 at 10:51 am
Definately Dierks’ “Terminally Lonesome” band!
July 17, 2010 at 12:18 pm
There’s this gag video from him about the new record up on YouTube, it’s entertaining!
