Willie, Merle & Ray Could Be Country Equivalent Of The Rat Pack
- Michelle Wright remembers the small town she came from and is returning to Canada to go on a small tour. The Brampton Guardian has a short interview with Wright. Her thoughts on Canadians traveling to the US to kick start their careers:
I think it is really a good, positive thing to celebrate the Canadians that get an opportunity to come to another country and wave the flag and say, “Look, I come from Canada and there’s great talent up there.” The bottom line is that it is a numbers game and coming to America and being exposed to the kind of numbers that you can be down here establishes a career and fulfills the hopes and dreams of any singer or songwriter.

If you put out a song that isn’t life, nobody’s gonna care for it. Because if nobody is livin’ that life, how you gonna sell a record if it’s just ring around the rosy? You gotta put your whole heart into a song. And that’s what I did with every song that I wrote.

It was worth it. “Last of the Breed” could be the Rat Pack of country music: Ray Price assumes the sophisticated role of Sinatra, Merle Haggard is the playful conscience who takes a lot of pride in who he is and Willie Nelson is everyman’s best buddy who knows everybody loves somebody sometime.
Reading the rest of the article it sounds as though the performance in Scottsdale over the weekend was nothing short of magical. Hopefully the magic can be reenacted this coming Saturday.

I was wondering how LOTB would work, if it would simply be Ray Price, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson concerts rolled into one or whether the performers would share the stage most of the time. It sounds like the format is intermediate between those two extremes. At any rate, I’m sure that I won’t be disappointed.
