Who Is Attending The Gruene With Envy Awards?

  • If you haven’t heard of the Band of Heathens, a group of solo acts who have come together to form a band, check out this article from Austin360.

Sure, members of Austin’s Americana-soul supergroup the Band of Heathens might not possess such superhuman abilities as precognition, super-strength or flight, but who’s to say the powers they do posses — acute tonal hearing, enchanting four-man choruses, and an eerie foresight into what the others are going to play next — aren’t equally as helpful to mankind.

  • I personally have never heard of the Colgate Country Showdown, but they’re celebrating their 25th anniversary and were the first national event to spotlight artists “Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, Billy Dean, Billy Ray Cyrus and a stage full of other performers who went on to earn major recording contracts.” That’s quite an impressive list of talent.
  • Tickets for the Gruene With Envy Awards went on sale yesterday. From what I’ve gathered the Randy Rogers Band and the Eli Young Band will be performing full sets and other artists that’ll be there include: Jason Boland, Cory Morrow, Aaron Watson, Wade Bowen, Brandon Rhyder, Walt Wilkins, Adam Hood, Mike Mancy, Ryan Turner, Ryan James, and Jason Eady. Another impressive list of artists. We’re working on getting tickets, so if we make it we’ll be sure to give everyone the lowdown. Who else is will be attending the awards?
  • Kevin over at Country Universe has put together quite an impressive list. He recaps the Female Country Vocal category at the Grammys all the way back from to 1965, when the category was added. That’s some pretty sweet blogging.
  • Tennessean.com has a nice article on the sale of country music in foreign markets. I found it interesting that bluegrass is more popular in China than country music is.
  • The impressiveness factor is flowing today, so next up is the news that Carrie Underwood has reached quintuple platinum for her album Some Hearts. That’s 5 million albums sold, folks, not an easy feat by any means. “Officials at 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville said the accomplishment has earned Underwood the fastest quintuple-platinum certification ever for a debut album by a female country artist.”
  • Don’t forget to watch the premiere of season five of Nashville Star tonight, if that’s your sort of thing. It’ll air on USA at 9PM Central time, and will be hosted by Jewel and co-hosted by Cowboy Troy.

I don’t know much about the Colgate Country Showdown either, but I happened to catch one of the local competitions this year and I will be attending the national finals at the Ryman on January 25th. I’ll be interested to see what it’s all about.

Sweet! You’ll have to tell us about it since we don’t know anything. You could be witnessing the rise of the next country legend.
