Wake Up To Little Big Town and Phil Vassar at Red Roof Inn
- In a campaign designed to capitalize on the popularity of country music among their customers, Red Roof Inn enlisted the help of Little Big Town and Phil Vassar to record wake-up calls and hold messages for guests. The goal for the hotel is to become the hotel of fans and of bands, while the campaign also allows the participating artists another way to connect with fans.
- Online music services have reached a deal with record labels, music publishers and songwriters to provide compensation to music creators for their content that is partially downloaded or streamed on the internet through subscription or ad-supported services.
- Julianne Hough will release a Christmas EP titled The Julianne Hough Holiday Collection as part of the NBC Sounds of the Season series. Due out on Oct. 12, the disc will be available exclusively at Target.
- John Maglite rants on inaudible influences–those influences that artists constantly cite, but never show up in the actual music.
- About.com’s Shelly Fabian listed the top selling country albums of all time and unsurprisingly, the list is dominated by Garth Brooks, Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks.

- Dolly Parton swooped in to save the day when the new 9 to 5 musical was halted shortly after it began due to technical difficulties. After several minutes of silence Parton stood up to perform a sing-a-long rendition of the title song, “9 to 5.”
During the next 20 minutes, Parton chatted about the show’s origins and process of adaptation, did an impromptu Q & A, and sang her greatest songwriting claim to fame, “I Will Always Love You.” The audience was reportedly good-humored during the delay. When the show went back up, it continued without further complications.
- Last year’s successful All For the Hall benefit in New York has led to the second annual benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, scheduled for Oct. 15 and featuring performances from Rodney Crowell, Jerry Douglas, Vince Gill and Emmylou Harris. The event is being presented as an old-fashioned guitar pull with songs, stories and unique musical collaborations.
- The newest Opry inductee, Craig Morgan , has a new album, titled That’s Why, due out on Oct. 21.
- The edition of Texas Monthly commemorating Willie Nelson’s 75th birthday with a black and white cover picture of the famed singer hugging his guitar was named one of the “2008 Best Celebrity Cover Finalists” by the American Society of Magazine Editors. (via Still Is Still Moving)
- When Washington Post staff writer Rachel Beckman attended the annual Sunday in the Country event in Columbia, MD on Sunday, a young man slammed into her shoulder on his way to vomit, but that didn’t stop her from giving a favorable review to Sugarland’s headlining performance. - A few members at Galleywinter discovered some Easter eggs on the cover of the latest self-titled Randy Rogers Band album. For instance, the letters CSW on the grill pays homage to their days starting out at Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, TX and their Live at Cheatham St. Warehouse album.

George Ducas - “Walk Through This World” Ducas banks on the success of recent artists’ pleasantly bland lyrics and agreeable instrumentation for his first release with WhiteStar Nashville.

Oh Wow, A Christmas album from Julianne Hough! Whoopee! (lol) Will dance step choreography be included for each song? Also, does this mean she will be backed by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir? Hmmm….
Since I don’t particularly care for Phil Vassar and Little Big Town (well, except for Karen Fairchild), does this mean I should avoid Red Roof Inn’s? Hmmm…..
Melissa Lawson actually had good debut single download sales volume right after Nashville Star, so let’s see if all those fans who voted for “One Night Rodeo” as “The Next GAC Star” are going to put money where there votes are. Lane Turner should she if Warner’s would let him market his unreleased “Right On Time” album in the same way Joanna Cotten markets her “Funkabilly” album….

Razor, the more compelling question is if I’m nice until Christmas, will Julianne promise to be naughty? (lol)
I never purchased any Garth, Shania, or Dixie Chicks albums. On the other hand the one Garth album I have is a freebie McDonalds restaurants put out, I have the soundtrack for “Twister” with a Shania cut, and I have burned copies of 3 Dixie Chicks albums they put out prior to their hooking up with Big Mouth Natalie! Does this count? Hmmmm…
