Tyler Dean – “Taylor Swift”
Don’t be confused–Taylor Swift’s latest musical stalker is not the same guy (Ryan Laird) who took out a billboard in downtown Nashville asking her to produce his album. No, this ode to Her Eminence comes from a new Curb signing named Tyler Dean, and it is far, far creepier than a simple billboard.
Dean has an obsession with Swift, and he’s not shy about sharing his schoolboy crush; here he pours out his heart in what might otherwise be a cute and playful attention grab if not for the fact that when he sings about tracking down Swift’s agent, lawyer and father he sounds crazy serious.
If only that seriousness was supported by his writing. “Taylor Swift” is ripe with bad lines, the worst kinds of songwriting clichés and lyrics that identify him as far inferior to the woman he’s pining over.
From Dean’s declaration that he never thought he’d fall for “just one girl” (which he groaningly rhymes with “rock my world”) to his stated desire to “take her for a ride,” to a second verse that dissolves into a pile of narrative nothingness, this is an awful song. And if responsible for setting the minimum standard of talent needed to secure a major label single release it would pave the way for every teenager posting lyrics to MySpace.
Curb obviously thinks it has a chance to cash in on Dean’s name-checking of Swift and on the fact that, presumably, there are legions of high school guys who share his crush. The problem with that, of course, is that aside from this being a song only marketable to an immeasurably narrow target, the song itself is far too polite to appeal to the people it attempts to connect with.
Dean’s narrative in “Taylor Swift” makes him sound like a good little church boy shot through the heart by cupid’s arrow. Appropriate, perhaps if he and Swift were both much younger. But I doubt that most teenage boys who have this kind of obsession would want to just make Swift “turn the lightest shade of red.”
Obviously, Curb isn’t going to release a song about a guy trying to get into Swift’s pants. But this song, about attraction and youthful lust, is completely devoid of sexuality. That makes no sense, and, more to the point, it leaves the song feeling dishonest and numb.
And it makes it a hard sell to teenagers who are, at least in part (an indispensable part), driven by sexual attraction.
Some playful nods to that end would be helpful here, as would Dean’s acknowledgment that he actually has zero chance with Swift. In that case, this would read as a more honest attempt to actually connect with real people who are like himself. Instead, he’s crafted something that sounds amateur and which is, apparently, aimed at 11 or 12 year old boys.

This is kinda a funny thought… since her debut single was “Tim McGraw”
I’ll listen to it, but I don’t think I will like it… sounds BAD lol
July 16, 2009 at 2:04 pm
You weren’t kidding when you called this creepy. I can understand a young guy wanting to get with her, but this is a little over the top. Taylor might want to get in touch with Gary Allan’s lawyer.
July 16, 2009 at 2:18 pm
ooh, ooh, can I write a song called “Tyler Dean” now? And then, somebody will write a song called “Mike Parker” and I’ll have finally made it. That’s how it works… right?
this is really just plain awful. My 11 year old niece, could, and probably has, written more interesting odes to Taylor Swift.
July 16, 2009 at 2:35 pm
Interesting. Dean is a better singer and Swift is a better songwriter.
July 16, 2009 at 2:41 pm
If you were an aspiring singer wouldn’t YOU want to track down Taylor’s agent and lawyer? Can’t really blame the boy for that.
July 16, 2009 at 2:44 pm
It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be.
July 16, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Except, LeeAnn, that he’s not tracking them down to pitch songs–which would be a pretty futile way for an unknown to go about getting material to her as it is.
July 16, 2009 at 2:49 pm
Jim, you must’ve been talking to Stormy? Otherwise, I’m confused.
July 16, 2009 at 2:54 pm
Yep, my bad. Busy day.
July 16, 2009 at 3:41 pm
the fact that he adds his phone number at the end is pretty creepy. maybe I’ll give him a call today. seems like some desperate kid using his record deal to try land Taylor Swift.
going beyond this creep, though, what’s up with Curb Records? the stuff with Tim McGraw… songs like this… a plethora of artists who have fallen out of the spotlight. next thing you know they’ll be trying to buy out Fast Ryde from Borchetta’s new label.
July 16, 2009 at 4:02 pm
I don’t think he sounds that serious, and I have to say that something about the sheer shamelessness is kind of amusing. But even if the song reaches some number of people, it’s probably a horrible career choice in the long-run – at least Swift’s “Tim McGraw” kind of had an actual song written around its unnecessary name-drop, so she could move on from the novelty of it. This song just establishes Tyler Dean as pure gimmick.
July 16, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Oh, and I have to say I’m amazed at what a rip-off this song seems to be. The “maybe…little…” line in the chorus is extremely similar to the “maybe…little…” line in the chorus of “You Look Good in My Shirt”, and I swear I’ve heard that guitar riff at the beginning in like 5 different songs. It especially reminds me of that “ooo, heaven is a place on Earth” song from the 80′s.
July 16, 2009 at 4:16 pm
This may be the worst piece of trash I have ever heard. Waylon is rolling over in his grave right now as we speak.
July 16, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I agree with the mention of Curb Records… WTF? They cancelled Jo Dee Messina’s album for this? =O
July 16, 2009 at 4:34 pm
You dare not compare the Belinda Carlisle classic to this piece of trash, Dan. :)
July 16, 2009 at 5:14 pm
Wow. This would make a much better ‘fake news’ story.
July 16, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Blah…skip
July 16, 2009 at 5:22 pm
Sadly, it’s very real.
July 16, 2009 at 6:38 pm
I’m not quite sure what I’m most terrified by…
The obsession.
The lack of originality.
The publicity stunt.
The lack of talent.
The production.
The fact that curb signed this guy.
I’m going to go with the last one.
I actually was kind of excited when I clicked this, I thought we were getting a new Rodney Carrington.
July 16, 2009 at 6:43 pm
We could make a never-ending chain out of this…
Let’s push Tyler Dean to number 1 then write a Tyler Dean song… eventually it will come back around to Tim. I’d hope that Tim’s song will be “I want to be as cool as Lucas”. Is he cooler than me? Heck yes, he’s Tim McGraw. But think how much cooler I’d be. That far surpasses Jason Alexander’s so much cooler online coolness.
How many cool points am I up to now? Zero? Yeah, I thought so…
July 16, 2009 at 7:10 pm
Rodney Carrington should cover this.
July 16, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Damn, this is some creepy s**t. It’s the EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE of 2009, except crap.
July 16, 2009 at 7:32 pm
I don’t think Hank would’ve done it this way…
July 16, 2009 at 8:13 pm
Dan Milliken, thank u so much i was about to write the same thing. the chorus is almost exactly the same as “You look good in my shirt” and at some point the melody resembles that of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”.
That said, I expected the song to be more scary. It wasn’t. It’s just an attempt at being cute (although extremely unsuccessful). Would I listen to it every now and then, maybe. But it’s sure not the kind of thing i’ll have in my library.
I just hope this trend of writing songs about other artists won’t infect the music business like it did to rap.
Anyhow, as Leeann put it before, he has more singing talent than taylor, but the lyrics are just crap. Tough start.
July 16, 2009 at 8:23 pm
For stringing Amy Dalley along for all those wasted years, CURB deserves all the crap that’s going to thrown their way due to this silly trifle of a song. Songs about teenage longing were soooo much more interesting back in the 1950′s and 60′s….
July 16, 2009 at 9:47 pm
@ RUSS:
It’s all autotune, drum loops and guitars
Where do we take it from here?
Recycled hooks, Nashville star
Been going downhill for years
We need to change
Somebody told me when I got to Nashville
Son you finally got it made
Taylor made it here, Mike Curb is sure that you will
But I don’t think Taylor done it this way
I don’t think Taylor done it this way
Writing creepy lovelorn songs about barely legal stars
Speeding my young life away
Tell me one more time just so I understand
Are you sure Taylor done it this way
Did Taylor really do it this way?
Been hit with a restraining order man
After looking at the backside of her
Singing my songs and one ’bout her now and then
But I don’t think Taylor done ‘em this a’way
No I don’t think Taylor done ‘em this a’way
July 16, 2009 at 10:34 pm
First “That Thang” and now this… I am ready for a non-embarrassing single. Please, soon! This has been painful.

Q & A with Tyler:
Hey! Do you ever plan on going to college? If so, where? – Diane … Grand Junction, CO
I did for many years until I started focusing on this career. I was going to study film at FSU. Maybe I will still someday – who knows.
…oh, he will.
He listed Garth as an influence? I highly doubt that, I list Garth as an influence *GASP*… AM I THE NEXT TYLER DEAN!? AH! HELP!
July 16, 2009 at 11:15 pm
Forget Tyler Dean, this Guy’s better:

This is probably my favorite “Tim McGraw” knock-off:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCA2lrk081g
…that was funny, then he went from funny radio station guy to “I wouldn’t leave my children with him” radio station guy….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs3-43iOODI
…I know the “game of twister” trick all too well. People tried it on me my first year of college.
Checkout Tyler’s MySpace:

He’s lived in Hendersonville his entire life… this is terrifying. I now question if going to the bike shop in Hendersonville this guy was watching me from afar writing songs of his lust for… forget it, this whole train of thought is much too terrifying.
Wait a second… he’s moved ten times!? WHAT KIND OF MONEY IS THERE IN HENDERSONVILLE!? WHAT THE HECK!? I’M MOVING!
…nevermind, you and I both know I’d end up in that monster apartment community just off the interstate… except behind those somewhere… in some cheaper ones with roaches.
July 17, 2009 at 12:09 am
Wow…thats pretty pisspoor. And hasn’t Taylor Swift lived in Hendersonville since her family moved down here?
July 17, 2009 at 4:56 am
Finally a reviewer who feels the same way about the song as I do. I couldn’t agree more with this review. This song is one of the most dreadful, depressing songs I’ve ever heard. I don’t even understand how people can even like this song, it’s totally unlistenable
And no; I don’t hate Miley Cyrus. Not at all. I hate her producers and her crew for destroying her and leading her in wrong directions.
July 17, 2009 at 8:06 am
It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be.
My thoughts exactly.
July 17, 2009 at 9:46 am
I didn’t get creepiness out of this song. Immature, maybe. How old is this guy? The song implies that they’re the same age “when we were thirteen”, if I remember correctly.
Lucas,
What?!
July 17, 2009 at 10:28 am
Who knows Leeann, I enjoy tangents.
July 18, 2009 at 5:27 am
Jim Malec, I think you need to go back to college and get better at your job as “Managing Editor.” I heard the song by Tyler Dean, “Taylor Swift,” and I think the song is about a guy who wants a girl LIKE Taylor Swift. Now tell me, Mr. Jim Malec-what is creepy about wanting a girl like Taylor Swift?
In addition, Mr. Jim Malec-why is it that you can’t comprehend that this is a song and not real life. In your article you say “Dean has an obsession with Swift, and he’s not shy about sharing his schoolboy crush; here he pours out his heart in what might otherwise be a cute and playful attention grab if not for the fact that when he sings about tracking down Swift’s agent, lawyer and father he sounds crazy serious.” First of all Mr. Malec, you say nothing about who was the author in writing this song. Who wrote the song????
Secondly, I think it is just a little creepy on your part to take the words of this song as being literal. Don’t tell me your think that Tyler Dean would actually track down Swift’s agent, lawyer and father. Let get real Mr. Malec.
Lastly, do you really think that Curb Records would sign a stalker to their label. I think you need to refresher course in writing and life. I like the fact that this song does not suggest a sexual connotation (toward a girl LIKE Taylor Swift) but a pure respect for the inner being of a girl LIKE Taylor Swift.
Mr. Jim Malec, I would hope that you too would want a girl LIKE Taylor Swift. Tyler Dean is not in love with Taylor Swift-but a girl LIKE her. Mr Jim Malec, I hope that you read my response and it helps you to be a better writer. In America, all of us males want a girl LIKE Taylor Swift-successful and pretty. Great Song Tyler Dean!
July 18, 2009 at 5:48 am
Tyler Dean is a very talented artist, and a wonderful individual. Its a shame that so many of you feel the need to be negative. I hope that we
will see a lot more of him and his music in the future.
July 18, 2009 at 9:40 am
The fact that, at the last possible moment in the chorus the song drops in the word “like” can’t undo the fact that its entirety is dedicated to Swift, not someone “like” Swift. That point, however, is an entirely different criticism which I chose not to levy within this particular review.
Aside from that, I’ll be honest–I have no writer information on this song. But if Dean didn’t write it (which I suspect, from your comments) that would just magnify the oddness of the whole thing.
July 18, 2009 at 12:10 pm
Tyler Dean, my name is Brittany and I think you have a great song. I can’t wait to hear it again!
July 18, 2009 at 3:35 pm
I hope I see more of his music in the future too–that way I can avoid it before I have to hear it.
July 18, 2009 at 3:41 pm
Dean is just trying to be cute and trying to rope in on Tayor Swift’s fame a little. No harm. Country music to some part has a “cute” side to it. Further, Tyler Dean is young and that’s what young guys sing about (or think about).
Also, isn’t Dean the son of Ronnie McDowell? Dad’s known for more risque stuff like “Watching Girls Go By” “Bad Reputation” and “Older Women (Make Good Lovers).”
July 20, 2009 at 1:26 am
i thought it was an ok song
i mean i want a girl like taylor swift to
July 20, 2009 at 1:57 pm
I’m sorry but this song is horrible! It’s a neat marketing idea but he’s trying to ride her fame… Ryan Laird’s billboard asking Taylor to produce his CD was also a very original marketing idea… the only difference is… Ryan Laird can stand on his own feet as a talented artist and songwriter!!
July 20, 2009 at 3:01 pm
WOW…what a TERRIBLE song. I’ll never understand Curb. Never.
I agree with Becky– Ryan Laird’s billboard idea was unique. The thing is, Mr. Laird’s idea didn’t make him out to be a stalker like this guy, or that Luke Walton creepfest youtube stunt…it was a (very public) request to work with her. The other two guys – just weird.
July 20, 2009 at 4:48 pm
He’s Ronnie McDowell’s son!? That just goes to prove my point that talent doesn’t get signed anymore, money and cheap connections do. Thank God Willie was signed when he was.
“George”… I do think Curb would sign a stalker, Mike Curb has made some iffy decisions as of late.
July 20, 2009 at 4:49 pm
I want a girl like Doris Roberts.
July 21, 2009 at 1:29 am
I don’t understand why some of you don’t like Tyler’s song I think it’s very cool, and so was the idea of titling the album ‘Taylor Swift,’
I’ve seen Tyler Dean perform and I have also had the pleasure of meeting him, and he is one the coolist and sweetist young men that I have ever met, and as for his singing go’s, I think he’s great, I’ve never heard anyone sing quite like he does, and He has a whole lot more talent then any other new artist out there, I mean Have any of you heard him sing “somebody Who Would Die For You,” Listen to him sing it and Tylor himself will prove my point. We are going to here a whole lot more out of Tyler Dean, and I can’t wait.
Mike Curb never made a better decision.
July 21, 2009 at 6:44 am
If you have to bring up how nice and sweet a person is to defend their music, you have answered your own question about why people don’t like it.
July 21, 2009 at 11:19 am
Tyler, WOW what a voice!!!!! Didn’t take much to master that song. I can tell you love to sing and you do it so well. Don’t let the negativity get to you. As you share your music, millions of people will love you. Hope to hear more music from you soon. Can’t wait for the videos!!
July 21, 2009 at 7:53 pm
This song is kinda cheezy and I’m not really a huge fan of Tyler’s voice… maybe he should try a billboard instead like Ryan Laird did… at least that was unique!

Tyler Dean – “Taylor Swift”
By: Ten Pound Hammer
Last Updated: July 21, 2009 4:07 PM
Ha ha, I knew this one was coming. Back when Taylor Swift hit the scenes three years ago (has it been that long already?) with “Tim McGraw”, one of my first wacky predictions was that, once Taylor became a big star, someone would cut a song titled “Taylor Swift”. Unfortunately, that song wasn’t recorded by Tim McGraw, so it doesn’t quite complete the circle. But at the very least, it’s by someone on the same label (Curb Records, which is also home to… um, a bunch of third- and fourth-tier artists).
The production is fairly clean, but it’s almost too loud. Tyler’s decent voice nearly gets drowned out in a sea of compressed, overdriven guitars. On the upside, the melody is swelling and catchy, not unlike those composed by Taylor herself. While lyrics start off a bit blandly (there oughta be a law against rhyming “girl” and “world”) they improve after the first couple lines. I suppose the song could be read as “creepy teenage stalker” at first listen, but Tyler sounds far too good-natured to truly be a stalker. That, and he says only that he wants a girl like Taylor Swift, not necessarily the genuine article.
One oddity about this song is that it shows a parallel between father and son. After two failed singles, Tyler’s father, Ronnie McDowell, hit it big in 1977 with “The King Is Gone”, an ode to Elvis Presley which just happened to be released at the right time. With two failed singles (“Built for Blue Jeans” and “Somebody Who Would Die for You”) under his belt, maybe Tyler will hit it big with this silly little ode to perhaps the hottest commodity in country music.
< Fast Ryde – "That Thang"
July 22, 2009 at 3:47 pm
Honestly i didn’t know what to think when i heard about this. But after listening the song is better than what the review says. It is targeted to a very small audience but its still a pretty good song.
July 22, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Tyler Dean names a single after Taylor Swift, just as Taylor Swift named one of her first songs “Tim McGraw”. However, Dean’s namedrop is not having the same effect that Swift’s namedrop achieved. The song is about how he wishes he had a girl like Taylor Swift. To read more, check out this link: http://www.countrystandardtime.com/blog/thefrontporch/entry.asp?xid=428.
July 26, 2009 at 10:42 am
Wait…. So this means all I have to do is write a sing called Tyler Dean and then I’ll make it into country music? Then someone will write a song called Roxxi… Lol We’ll all go down in history. Although writing a song called Tyler Dean may be a bit wierd because my brother’s name is Tyler Dean…
July 26, 2009 at 11:06 am
I’d never even heard of this billboard incident until The9513… but wouldn’t it be more logical to ask Taylor Swift to produce YOUR album?
Artists might not know what to tell the engineer and not always be sure what musician to call in because “we need an accordion,” but your album will sell.
BRITTANY! I have to disagree, Curb is NOT home to third and fourth tier artists… it’s more like fifth or six. Be reasonable.
No Roxxi, no… Tyler Dean would have to have a few fans for that to work.
July 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm
awww the song is sooo cute “call mr. swift” lol :)
♥
July 27, 2009 at 12:00 am
I get it..
Kris Kristofferson sings “Me and Bobby McGee”
Tim McGraw sings “Kristofferson”
Taylor swift Sings “Tim McGraw”
so obviously Tyler Dean must sing “Taylor Swift”
..Right?
July 29, 2009 at 8:15 am
Take it for what it is – A send up!- It’s ok.
Reminds me of the eBay song by weird Al.
Is it strange that all the top female Country singers are very good looking ? There is so much Country music about, it’s a useful extra…
July 30, 2009 at 1:07 pm
Okay so I was reading some of the other comments and thinking WTF okay so it isn’t the best song out there, but it isn’t that bad. He has a great voice and the song is actually okay. Taylor Swift is a better songwriter if we are judging by this song and Tyler Dean does have somewhat of a better voice I guess depending on which song you are listening to by Taylor Swift.
The part in all of this that I find annoying is why are they all writing about eachother. Taylor Swift has Tim McGraw, Tyler Dean now has Taylor Swift, and I’m sure if you do a little research you might find other artist have done the same thing. Next thing you know there is going to be a song titled Tyler Dean and that person will have a song about them too. Is this the new way of getting famous as a country artist, writing a song about an artist you like? So should I go get my notebook and guitar and start writing a song about Tyler Dean?

“TYLER DEAN”
Lyrics by RNLH, Music by Taylor Swift
(To the music of “Tim McGraw”)
He saw the star and how she shined
Then he wrote a song about his life
Asked ‘Will you be mine?’
Just a guy lookin’ for some fame
Crappy lyrics so he put her name
Into every line
And – sometime later, what do ya know
Thanks to Taylor bein’ cool, his song got on the radio
So when I hear Tyler Dean
I feel like I wanna scream
And throw a punch at the computer screen
Stop ruinin’ music, ya hillbil-layyyy
Lord, there’s the encore
Burnin’ down a record store
Who needs talent anymore?
Just name-drop from Nashville to L. A.
Yeah follow Tyler Dean- and you’ll be on the way
Celebrities, we’re gettin’ bored
We’re forgettin’ what you’re famous for
But we don’t really care
You guys are all ‘sactly the same
Cuz we just want to use your name
To get us on the air…
And- Im not gonna try my hand at writing lyricism
This way it aint personal when they give me criticism
So when I hear Tyler Dean
I feel like I wanna scream
And throw a punch at the computer screen
Stop ruinin’ music, ya hillbil-layyyy
Good lord, there’s the encore
Burnin’ down a record store
Who needs talent anymore?
Just name-drop from Nashville to L. A.
Yeah follow Tyler Dean- and you’ll be on the way
And now that I’ve written this song
About this Tyler Dean
I’ll be waitin’ by the radio
To hear a song sung about me
When I’ll hear RNLH
(Which are my ‘nitials by the way)
Well I’ll be waitin’ for that day
I’ll yell, “Sonofab!tch!”
Then I’ll hightail to L.A.
Get a lawyer on the way
Sue and make that singer pay
And I’ll finally be rich
Maybe I’ll cut Tyler in
For jumpstartin’ this thing
Startin’ this thing….
Oooh…
He saw the star and how she shined
Then he wrote a song about his life
Asked ‘Will you be mine?’
copyright RNLH.
August 4, 2009 at 11:00 am
I saw this song in the iTunes store today, and my computer tried to commit seppuku.
August 5, 2009 at 3:55 pm
I THINK ITS CUTE . tAYLOR SWIDT WRITES ABOUTR BOYS AND USES NAMES ALL THE TIME SO WHY CANT HE ?
August 6, 2009 at 10:41 pm
You guys seem awful critical of the fact that someone wrote a song about someone else. It’s really just an innocent, fun song and I really don’t think it’s creepy. Don’t take it too seriously.
August 6, 2009 at 11:00 pm
Beth, calm down. There’s no need to yell.
But seriously, it’s a stupid song. We don’t need to be encouraging music like this.
August 7, 2009 at 4:31 am
Well, it’s definitely not the best song I’ve ever heard, but it’s certainly not as bad as this article made it out to be. I’ve heard way worse songs than this playing on the radio every 5 minutes.
August 7, 2009 at 6:07 am
“I’ve heard way worse songs than this playing on the radio every 5 minutes.”
That’s not setting the bar very high ;)
August 7, 2009 at 6:36 am
Beth: No one cares if he writes about boys and uses their names.
August 7, 2009 at 3:01 pm
aha woah, i think you are blowing this way out of porportion. common, do you honestly think this song is about getting in taylor swifts pants? your just trying to find a reason to make the song look worse then it already is. i can see how you might think that “i wanna take her for a ride”, and a few other lines mentioned, could mean something sexual, but i doubt dean even thought about that when he was writing the song. and even though it was a little creepy you have to admitt that it was sweet for him to write a song just for her. what girl wouldnt want that? i do agree however, that he could of toned it down a bit=}
August 9, 2009 at 4:39 pm
Okay so the article made me think that the song would be horrible. After listening, although the song is catchy, the production is horrible, the writing is crap, and the melody is a complete Keith Urban rip-off. I was reading some of the debate about how this guy is creepy about doing this song and I agree that by dropping the word “like” Taylor Swift does not make it any better. The whole song he’s singing about all of her features and about calling her agent, lawyer, and even father, but then says he just wants a girl “like” Taylor Swift. It pretty much sounds that he wants Taylor and only Taylor. So yah, creepy song.
By the way, although I don’t know too much about the industry, I’m still completely baffled about how this guy got a record label and that Ryan Laird guy is still not signed? Should be the other way around.

Wow. What has country music come to when songs like this are released as singles? “Tim McGraw” was one thing – a novelty. “Taylor Swift” is a ripoff of an idea, and not as good a song. The producers drowned out his voice anyway…and maybe that’s a good thing considering what a bunch of drivel this song is.

i liked it, i thought it was cute… :)

The article makes it seem like the song is miserable and that all teenage guys care about is getting into Taylor’s pants. Neither are the case. The song isn’t bad at all and kinda catchy. And I happen to have the same infatuation with Taylor Swift as Tyler Dean does, not sexual at all.
and another thing, he seems to have know her before she was a star because “we were only 13″. So its not as creepy as some of you people make it out to be. And he’s lived in Hendersonville all his life which is where they currently both reside so i would imagine that they’ve met each other

i think its a really cute song and he says a girl LIKE taylor swift he’s not freaking stalking her its just a fun playful song

Jesus, I cannot believe I just heard this song on country radio. It actually made me feel ashamed because I love county, but this song is rediculously horrible. It’s not original at all. Like others have said, the chorus does sound just like Keith urban’s ‘you look good in my shirt.’
Even though this is a terrible song, I think it’s going to be a big hit b/c people are so brainwashed by Taylor swift that they will instantly love anything that comes out that is remotely related to her.
How can this kid be in the same genre as George strait, Garth brooks, etc..?
August 20, 2009 at 1:13 am
Is the song catchy?… yes.
Is the song cute?… very much so.
Is the song creepy?… no.
Is the song poorly written?… yes.
Bottom line is record labels are going to put out what is going to make them money. This song will make them money. I don’t think it was nearly as bad as the article made it out to be talking about how it isn’t genuine. Whether it is or not, if a teenager is going to sing a song it doesn’t have to be about getting into someones pants. Guess what is going to happen if they do that. They are just going to get more crap.

Never heard the full song but what i did hear it is very flatting but in need of something maybe not sex but something.
August 25, 2009 at 11:19 am
i love this song. i think its cute a guy finally wrote a song about taylor swift. i completely disagree with this article. |:

First of all, Tyler is not a crazy person and the song is very innocent. All of you who are talking smack about the song and Tyler are very immature, probably stemming from jealousy. Tyler Dean is very talented. I’ve saw him perform several times with his father (Ronnie McDowell) and his voice is absolutely amazing. He chose not to have the McDowell named attached to his records so that he can make it with his own talent! If he wasnt talented, Curb wouldnt have signed him. So what if the song isnt a masterpiece! Its catchy, its cute, the tune is not bad. SO GET OVER IT ALREADY!!!! WE LOVE YOU TYLER DEAN!

Good music, good voice, worst as hell lyrics.
you know what I am going to write down this song and this will probably suck.
Tyler Dean-
I found a song online,
Listened to the music,
Hey this might be good,
And then I heard the lyrics
Chorus
Because Tyler Dean makes me wanna,
Slap my face and his as well,
And maybe some just can’t tell
And maybe some just don’t see it,
but my face goes sick and green,
And I hurl when I hear Tyler Dean.
I struggled through the whole damn thing,
I know that this boy actually can sing,
But he can’t write to save himself,
Or anybody else.
Chorus
Can’t he get someone like Taylor Swift to write his song and he should sing it. Maybe that make his lifelong dream come through and my ears can finally be happy.

this is just a joke right twilight zone shit is what this is how did someone pay this guy money to recored this song and put it on a cd just awful
October 6, 2009 at 1:52 am
To all the haters, u sing what songs? u have a record deal for what label? you can go online and bash someone all you want, Tyler is very talented and he is SIGNED to a record label. U have to have talent to be accomplished. So tell me, what is your number one hits? what songs of yours are people talking about? music is just like beauty, its in the ear of the listener instead of the eye. what you may consider great is not what others may. if you dont like it, you dont like it, but you dont have to post hurtful things to others! Tyler is a great person, sweet kid, and has an amazing voice!!! LEAVE HIM ALONE!
October 6, 2009 at 6:41 am
Brittany Spears, Jessica Simpson and Ashlee Simpson are all also “accomplished” enough to be signed to a label.
But I forgot, we’re supposed to LEAVE BRITTANY ALONE too.

I like this song! I thought it was sweet. A nice boy with a crush, singing about a beautiful girl he’d like to date. Very young, and innocent.
I did not aggree with the review at all.
If I was Taylor Swift, I would NOT think it was creepy, I’d think it was sweet.
Although, I’m sure the girls he dates from now on are going to compare themselves and be jealous of Taylor Swift. To which he will say it was “just a song”….
At least it gets people talking. Thumbs up!
October 17, 2009 at 3:46 pm
I agree with Sullen. The song is sweet and it honestly sounds like he just wanted to get the attention of a girl that he fancies. It’s kind of romantic. Not song of the year material, or even song of the day material, but a cute song none the less.
October 18, 2009 at 3:22 pm
okay. for starters.
1. He didn’t even write this song.
2. He’s been signed with Curb for a long time.
3. The number is a fake.
4. It’s just a song people.
He’s a very talented young man, and this is just one song. One song out of many great ones to come. It has the potential to be catchy and after listening to it you get the tune stuck in your head.
October 18, 2009 at 3:44 pm
“He Didn’t even write this song” should be banned from defenses that can be made for songs/artists. It was written and the artist chose to sing it. So, it’s the artist’s responsibility, as if he wrote it himself.
October 20, 2009 at 5:24 pm
I feel about the same after listening to this song as I did after watching that Boxxy video on youtube… Like I’ve lost brain cells that I’ll never recover.
Seriously, this is lame, and I shake my head at a record label who would let this happen. Taylor should sue them for using her name. If it was a good song (like ‘Tim McGraw’ was), fine. But this? Ugh.
If I have to say anything good at all, the guy’s an okay singer. But in all, this will do him little good. Quick attention, and then splat, he’ll hit the bottom.
October 27, 2009 at 5:49 pm
Guys please..i give this whole article a big THUMBS DOWN. He’s just trying to get his name out there..what better way than with a song like this!! I think he has a great voice and i would definetly like to hear more from the guy!!! Love the song =]
November 4, 2009 at 7:28 pm
I think the song is cute and I fear people might be taking it wayyyy too seriously. Really? is he gonna track her agent and father down? Probably not.
Besides, he’s a cutie. Taylor should give him a chance haha!
November 4, 2009 at 11:57 pm
I think dean made a fairly good song. yes the lyrics are junk but his voice is really nice…he should let somebody write his songs and he sticks to singing them.
November 6, 2009 at 2:24 pm
Well…you know the lyrics aren’t that good but his voice is AMAZING! Maybe hes just asking for Taylor to write some good lyrics for him. LOL that would be cool if she wrote a song and he sang it.
November 20, 2009 at 10:44 am
Wow guys way to be jerks. Just because finds a way to express their feelings makes them creepy. Sure it may be a little crush like. Big deal. Let him get through the crush. The only one it really matters to right now is Taylor. She’s got the final say.
November 20, 2009 at 10:56 am
you are welcome joshua. there’s nothing wrong with expressing your feelings. but if you’re going to drop a steamer, don’t expect people to call it a snickers bar.
November 27, 2009 at 3:37 pm
this is the most stupidest song that i have ever heard in my whole entire life it is so stalkerish and he cant even sing that good! i think that taylor swift should sew him or whatever she can because if i was her i would be purdy scaired! its just a freakey song that puts me in a horrible mood when i hear it! gah i just HATE this song!
November 27, 2009 at 4:04 pm
What should she sew him into?
November 28, 2009 at 12:51 am
Ok. I agree with most of the stuff written in the comments, but I have to give him props. Taylor got her big break from writing a song about Tim McGraw, so maybe this guy will go from writing songs about other people to writing about the guys who broke his heart. However, I agree that singing about getting in touch with Taylor’s lawyer, agent, and dad is a bit much. Hell, he’s like a singing stalker.
November 28, 2009 at 2:19 am
wow, a taylor made stalker… that’s seriously pathetic… but I’d bet he’s more talented…
November 28, 2009 at 2:21 am
why is getting in touch with taylor’s dad a bad move??? Obviously he’s a big K.A. and taylor made it with her father’s money, so why can’t this guy??
go for it dude… kudos to ya!
February 6, 2010 at 9:13 pm
hahaha. we can’t blame tyler dean for that. i heard the song nd it’s nice. that’s the sweetest thing a guy would do for a girl but since they’re both celebrities, i dunno. :D

NAME-CHECKING – Taylor Swift pulled it off with “Tim McGraw,” but Tyler Dean’s “Taylor Swift” is a flop. POINT ONE: “Tim McGaw” is not actually about Tim McGraw. It’s more about the haunting power country songs have to take you back to a special time in your past. POINT TWO: Taylor wrote and sang “Tim McGraw” from the heart, and did not orginally intend to ship it to radio. “Taylor Swift” on the other hand, is clearly Tyler’s lame attempt at drawing attention to himself. POINT THREE: Taylor has only been in the music business for four years. I won’t take anything away from her, but she is just not ready to be name-checked. Name-checking only works when it’s done to an artist who has stood the test of time. In concludion, Taylor’s “Tim McGraw” gets thumbs-up. Tyler’s “Taylor Swift” gets a big THUMBS-DOWN.

Who wrote this article? Of course the song is “way too polite.” Taylor Swift is this guy’s celebrity crush (and he’s mine :D) so of course he’s going to share his feelings about her. So he wrote a SONG about her, hence he’s a SONGwriter/SINGer. And what the hell do you mean “bad songwriting cliche’s? It’s a freakin’ SONG. a LOVE song. He LOVES her. I would be honored if a guy loved me enough to write a song for me. and of course people are going to post the lyrics to their MySpace pages because obviously THEY LIKE THE SONG! I don’t see any reason to be this critical over a freakin’ SONG!
