Toby Keith’s New Single And Trace Adkins To Sing King Of The Road

  • Toby Keith will release a new single, “High Maintenance Woman”, on February 12. His 2007 “Hookin’ Up And Hangin’ Out” tour kicks off tomorrow in Albany, New York, with Miranda Lambert and Flynnville Train as opening acts.
  • I remember when Brody first bought Roger Miller’s album, The Best Of Roger Miller: Greatest Hits, and we would ride around tryin’ to sing those old classics like “King Of The Road”, “Chug-A-Lug”, and “Do-Wacka-Do” as best as we could to match Roger’s unique voice. I don’t think we quite pulled if off, but I’m sure if anyone can, it’d be Trace Adkins. After all, he did do a rap video. Trace is not only co-hosting Great American Country’s Songs of the Year show with James Denton, but he is also performing Roger Miller’s “King Of The Road” as well as one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs, “Sunday Morning Coming Down”.

Trace says of the decision to sing “King Of The Road”:

  • “Great songs are the only kind Roger Miller wrote. He didn’t write bad songs. When I was rehearsing “King Of The Road” and somebody asked me, ‘How’d that feel to you,’ and I said ‘Sacrilegious!’ Since everybody else is being sacrilegious too and singing songs they don’t deserve to be singing, I’ll do it too.”

Cracker Barrel Songs of the Year premieres Saturday, January 27, at 9 p.m. ET on GAC. There are also some neat clips of other artists being interviewed about their song choice on GAC.

  • Nominations for the 42nd Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, will be announced by Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, and Pat Green on Monday, March 5, on CBS’ The Early Show.
  • Tim McGraw will perform at the Brett Favre Celebrity Golf Tournament & Auction, benefiting the “Brett Favre Fourward Foundation” that takes place in Tunica, Mississippi on May 4-6.
  • GAC announced on their site that Mark Wills will host a new series called The Year. The premiere episode debuts Wednesday, January 24 at 9 p.m. ET and features fun facts about world events, pop culture and entertainment news. The Year takes a look back at those moments that defined us then and shape us now – the music and memories of years past.
