I hope someone (that’s smarter and more wise in these ways preferably) can tell me how such a large amount of recordings from an inarguable icon can go so long without being released? Leaving that much “Hank” on the shelf for so long isnt much different than discovering a ton of Abe Lincoln speeches that were written but never were given, cuz ya know, the whole assasination thing…

Kelly: Probably someone to do with the licensing of the show had a problem with releasing them, and that person is no longer in a position to object. Because I would imagine that these recordings are properties of the show and not Hank’s estate.

I know that the nephew of the Gershwins who is now in charge of their estate is much more picky about licensing things like Porgy and Bess than his aunt was. So I’d imagine it is like that, only in reverse.

Kelly, in the article, it said the recordings were actually THROWN AWAY at one point and a WSM employee salvaged them. I dunno why the recordings weren’t ever released, but at least they’re coming out now.

Jason Isbell’s song “Dress Blues” has moved me so much since the first time I heard it, but has moved me even more so now that I’ve read the story behind it.
