Tim McGraw’s “If You’re Reading This” Is In High Demand

- Fans of Cledus T. Judd can celebrate with the announcement of his upcoming tribute to Ray Stevens, Boogity, Boogity — A Tribute to the Comedic Genius of Ray Stevens. The album is due out later this summer and contains some high profile country stars as guests, including a collaboration with Stevens himself on “The Streak”.
- Despite not having a studio recording of “If You’re Reading This”, Tim McGraw entered the Hot Country Songs chart at No. 35. McGraw’ s manager said they’re addressing the fact that they don’t have a studio recording yet, but in the mean time radio stations are playing the live version from the CBS broadcast. Also check out the poll on Coquet-Shack asking listeners whether they think the song should be released as a single or not. Only 1% of the 139 voters have said no thus far. - LiveDaily has a pretty extensive interview with Gretchen Wilson in which she talks about breaking a guitar on stage with Big & Rich, her songwriting process, and why she only writes with her friends.
- When Colin Raye’s independent label deal fell through he had a couple of friends step in and create their own label, Starpointe Records, to help release his album. Ken Kragen and Pat Melfi are the co-founders of Starpointe Records and Raye is the only artist signed at the moment, which is the way they like it. The first single, “A Soldier’s Prayer”, is a patriotic song that radio stations were wanting to play before final copies were even available.

- The producers of Austin City Limits have another sure-to-be hit festival with the first ever Big State Festival in October. The festival will be a two day event in Bryan-College Station, TX and will include about 50 acts on five stages. Artists scheduled to perform include: Tim McGraw, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, Miranda Lambert, The Wreckers, Los Lonely Boys, Jack Ingram, Robert Earl Keen, and a whole lot more. Tickets go on sale on June 5th.

I’ve been watching Cledus on Celebrity Fit Club and I’ve found him endearing, even though some of his mean-spirited parodies bashing the Chicks back in ‘03 turned me off back then.
I’m curious to hear the Stevens tribute, and even more curious to know why he has a song getting radio airplay called “Illegals” that doesn’t appear on that upcoming album. The title makes me fear the worst, and I can’t even figure out from it what it might be a parody of, if it is one at all.
