Tim McGraw Releases New Children’s Book Today
- The new children’s book co-written by Tim McGraw and Tom Douglas, My Little Girl, was released today. Faith Hill, who wrote the forward, loves it, but his daughters were indifferent. “If it doesn’t have Chris Brown or the Jonas Brothers involved, they don’t care,” he joked.
- Keith Urban will release a live DVD titled Keith Urban Live: Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy World Tour on Nov. 11 exclusively at Wal-Mart.
- As the Paisley Party Tour came to an end last Saturday night, Brad Paisley thought he had the last laugh after pulling a couple of pranks on his tour mates, but Jewel had one trick left and it involved a couple of retired police officers.
- Craig Shelburne published a brief interview with Ashton Shepherd in which she talks about landing a spot on Sugarland’s Love on the Inside tour.
- Were several Gretchen Wilson and Keith Anderson concerts canceled because of poor ticket sales? Country Music Is Love thinks so.
Rob Green, a promoter with ELLI LIVE, said that tickets to Gretchen’s shows are not a popular item right now. He says “I am not going to sugar coat anything. I had two other dates with her and it just wasn’t selling. I am not going to throw a party for people. It’s got to be cost effective.”
- Sugarland’s most recent album, Love on the Inside, was certified platinum by the RIAA on Monday, while Tim McGraw’s first set of hits, released in 2000, was certified sextuple platinum.
- Rumor has it that country music may be making its way to the popular video game Rockband.
- New releases for the week of 10/21/2008 include:
- Axton Kincaid – Silver Dollars
Amazon | Rhapsody | iTunes - Carol Elizabeth Jones – Cataloochee
Amazon - Craig Morgan – That’s Why
Amazon | Rhapsody | iTunes - Durwood Haddock – I Done the Boogie Too Long
Amazon | iTunes - Gretchen Peters – Northern Lights
Amazon - Hank III – Damn Right Rebel Proud
Amazon | Rhapsody | iTunes - Lee Ann Womack – Call Me Crazy
Amazon | Rhapsody | iTunes - Mitch Jacobs – Jukebox Music
Amazon - Rich O’Toole – In A Minute Or Two
Amazon | iTunes - Waylon Jennings – Waylon Forever

- Amazon is hosting a Hank III listening party for his new album, Damn Right, Rebel Proud. (via Twang Nation)
- On the topic of Hank III’s newest album, The Boston Globe’s Stuart Munro says, “We get it: you’re a rebel.” He goes on to claim that there is some some fine-sounding, high-voltage country, but the songwriting is “cliché-ridden and full of awkward rhymes and stilted phrasings, his songs are too often fixated on his own bad self, on celebrating his excesses, romanticizing their dark side, and asserting his outlaw bona fides.”
- Dierks Bentley is heading to Norway in December to perform with Diana Ross and female pop star Feist for for Finnish peace mediator Martti Ahtisaari, this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner.
- Stephen Miller published a new biography on Dolly Parton titled Smart Blonde, but PopMatters’ Steven Horowitz says it falls flat. Miller was unable to secure an interview with Parton, or anyone close to the singer aside from one of her sisters, so the biography ends ends up rehashing already mostly known details.
- Mindy Smith takes a turn on Mountain Stage, performing a cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” along with her own songs: “Come to Jesus,” “Out Loud,” “Tennessee” and “Out of Control.”
- Gerry House of WSIX/Nashville and Chuck Collier of WGAR/Cleveland will be inducted into the Country Music DJ Hall of Fame on March 3.
- The always enlightening Men’s Health listed country music as one of the “13 Things a Man Should Never Fear.”
Your snobbery betrays ignorance. Some of the greatest songs in the North American canon have come out of this genre. Also, if you think you have problems, just listen to some Merle Haggard. You’ll feel a lot better.
Fortunately, Baron Lane and Craig Shelburne saved me the trouble of pointing out the absurdity of listing country music alongside things like snuggling, small dogs and makeover shows.

Caroline Herring likes to sing songs about life in the South. No, not exactly like Justin Moore and Jason Aldean...

I was at the Keith Urban concert they used for the DVD; it was a top shelf show!

Ashton Shepherd is such a down to earth country gal she always impresses me by just being herself. In a recent blog post Sarah Buxton listed Ashton as one of the two female artists she really likes hearing on Top 40 country radio currently (along with Taylor Swift’s new single, but hey Sarah’s human (lol)). I got to chat with the program director of the most listened to mainstream country station in the US (KKGO 105.1 FM Los Angeles) on Friday and asker her if she had ever added either of Ashton’s singles to their song data bank/playlist. Tonya replied that GO Country was indeed spinning “Sounds So Good” after completely ignoring “Takin’ Off This Pain”. Finally!
Hank III must have been channeling his Grandpa when he recorded “Lovesick, Broke & Driftin’” back in 2002 as that album will stand as his creative high water mark in my mind. Once he went potty mouth that was the end of the line for me…

Rick,
“Sounds So Good” might just become a Top 10 for Ashton. It’ll be a struggle but maybe one of ‘your girls’ will get there! heh.

Even as a big fan of Craig Morgan, I’m unimpressed with his latest album. Unfortunately.

Happy Birthday Brady and Brody! I’m so excited I think I’ll send you two a copy of Tim McGraw’s new children’s book to share among yourselves. You can do a book review on The 9513! (lol)
Matt, I hope just one of the new gals I really like hits the Top 10 some year! I’d love to hear Ashton’s song “The Bigger The Heart” hit the airwaves and if Sarah Buxton keeps getting the welcome mat at AirHead country radio I’d expect her to hit the Top 10 eventually. Sarah Johns should have released “Big Love In A Small Town” rather than the ridiculous “She Hates Me”. Oh well, I can dream……

Emily West Alert! Emily will be performing on TONIGHT’s Grand Ole Opry show at 7:45 PM Nashville time (ie about one hour from when I posted this). Somehow I’d guess that “Rocks In Your Shoes” and “Blue Sky” will be included in her set! I must be a genius! (lol)

was the waxing really as painful as they say?
happy birthday, guys!
October 22, 2008 at 7:37 am Permalink
I tried a brazillian wax once.
I learned two things:
1. Men must never do this. Ever.
2. It makes a punch in the face seem comfortable.
October 22, 2008 at 9:30 am Permalink
Brady and Brody might have to check the records for this, but how many “Brazilian Wax” references have been made here on the commesnts section before ??
October 22, 2008 at 9:37 am Permalink
I ran a quick search on the DB and we’ve had plenty of ‘Brazilian Wax’ references, but they’re all marked as spam. It looks like Rainbow’s is the first legitimate one.
October 22, 2008 at 9:41 am Permalink
You sure I’m not spammin’?
