Tim McGraw Helps Detain Unruly Fan
- Tim McGraw helped detain a rowdy fan during his recent concert in Auburn, Washington. He called for security to take the man away when he witnessed him rush forward and allegedly attack a female fan. After security was unable to get to the man fast enough McGraw helped drag him on stage. The band continued to play on, and when the man was taken away McGraw jumped right back into the song. - In a Q&A with Mike Kieran, Todd Snider mentions that he might write a book, names his musical influences and personal heroes and relays the story of the time he had a gun pulled on him:
I was with Billy Joe Shaver. He seems to always be around guns and alcohol. I was waiting for a phone call and I think I interrupted a drug deal. It was kind of a tough old bar. This guy put a gun in my face, a sawed-off shotgun. I thought, “What a dick, that’s rude!” Billy Joe talked me out of it somehow. As soon as the gun got in my face he said, “Todd, be quiet.” and I said, “OK.” And he started talking. I don’t remember everything he said, but we left. They told me to never come back to that bar but I did.

- Littlefield, TX–the birthplace of Waylon Jennings–is holding a birthday bash to honor the outlaw singer this Saturday.
- Reba McEntire, Patsy Cline and Trisha Yearwood all scored spots within the top ten of Country Universe’s 100 Greatest Women. There’s only five spots left to go.
- Emily West, a self-professed klutz, had a few minor hiccups during her CMA Festival performance:
The zipper on her vintage dress exploded on stage, leaving her in a slip. She had planned to perform barefoot, but the stage was so hot that she couldn’t stand still.
“Everyone probably thought I was a really bad dancer,” West said. “Thank God I wore the slip. Then I almost tripped and fell going off stage.”
- If you’re around Irving, TX this weekend, head out to the Country For a Cure concert featuring Lost Immigrants, Mo Robson and Jay Johnson. All the proceeds benefit Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so you’re helping out a good cause and catching some good tunes at the same time.
- Jackass’s Johnny Knoxville posted a hilarious three part video interview with Dale Watson. The majority of the interview is dedicated to Watson recalling the time he pulled a knife on an Ohio piano player in Sweden. (via the always delectable Twang Nation)
- A WB press release says Blake Shelton will be next week’s Nashville Star musical guest. The theme is “family week” and he’ll be performing his latest single, “Home.”
- Jamey Johnson on writing and performing: “Writing is not enough for me. I did not come [to Nashville] to just be a writer. I live to play. I’m not here to take a stab at it, I am going to do it.”
- Check out “12 Ounce World” and “Pour Me a Drink” from Rodney Hayden’s forthcoming album.
- Jim Caligiuri published a lovely article on The Austin Chronicle’s Earache music blog. Here’s an excerpt:
“…it’s a country music site that doesn’t take sides in the battle between mainstream and Americana. It takes the current crop of Nashville poseurs to task when needed, but doesn’t praise all things alt or Texas either, pointing the way to what’s good on either side of the fence.”

It is a great write up and well-deserved, I tell everyone I can about what y’all do here! I sure wouldve liked the writer to include some snippets from some of the more famous, recent threads like the great “buddy jewell is probably racist” debate, or even better the “is perfect stranger in fact perfect or even a stranger??” debate of January. Who could forget the “phil stacy is real country cuz he is real nice” fiasco. I think the writer wouldve been well advised to really dig deep for some more material on the site ;-)

I will say Mindy just beat out Chris Cagel’s girlfriend for best mugshot ever.
I know I should think this way, but I can help but think that if Mindy could just get her writing and singing to match up to her life, she would be the best country singer of her generation.

Nice link to the Snider interview. I’ve had a beer with him in a bar. (He didn’t used to be as popular OR country.) I am shocked, shocked I tell you that he ran into a gun under his chin.
While I love the comments here, those under the Tim McGraw vid are fun too. My favorite: “country is the special olympics of music.”

Awesome write-up on this site! I’m somewhat new to this site–been coming here a few months I guess but just recently started posting. Its amazing that WB would issue a press release on NBC’s “Nashville Star”, unless they are producing it? Hmmm… Forget about a “Family” themed show, we want drinkin’, cheatin’, and heart breakin’ themes. This is supposed to be a country music talent quest, not Disneyland! Crikey….
The GAC blurb on Jamey Johnson is good but far too brief. I’m glad Jamey’s not content just to be a songwriter, and I’ve read where Ashley Monroe and Sarah Buxton feel exactly the same way (thank goodness).
Congrats on the nice write up in the Austin Chronicle blog. Will curious Austin-ite newbies make this blog even more Texas-centric? Only the shadow knows….
Mindy McCready looks way too nice in the mug shot for this to be a random event. I think Mindy’s figured out the only way she can keep getting publicity to help revive her career is to make sure she gets arrested on a regular basis. Good luck…

Looking forward to Rodney Hayden’s next album. BTW, anybody else love Reckless Kelly’s new release this week, Bulletproof? I also really like the new Mark Chesnutt album. Lots of good stuff coming out of Texas as usual.
Jamey Johnson is awesome. This is no new thing, but it needs to be said every time the man puts pen to paper or sings.

Jim C.-I am not sure whats going on here. I know you were joking, as was I, that is why I put the little smiley face on my message or whatever. i even made a point to say that I was “just joking” in my second comment, so it doesnt seem to me like I am the one in need of a sense of humor here…seriously. Go back to my original comment, and you’ll see that I was merely using your article as an excuse to bring up some of the more colorful comment threads that have taken place on this site recently, thats all. I started that comment with saying it was a great write-up, which I thought it was. If a guy cant friggin’ put a stupid smiley face on a comment to keep sensitive readers from getting offended what’s the use of using the stupid smiley face?
