The Discovery Aspect Of Blogs: Recommend An Artist
One particularly valuable aspect of music blogs is the discovery aspect in which both authors and commenters on the blog have the ability to introduce new and worthwhile music to the audience. That aspect coupled with the power of a trusted recommendation from a respected critic or a commenter whose tastes align with your own creates a fairly compelling reason to check out a new band or album. So what I want y’all to do is recommend one unknown act and leave a link to their MySpace profile. By unknown, I mean simply that they haven’t achieved any sort of national prominence or success and aren’t on a major label.

Blake Shelton - "She Wouldn't Be Gone" It’s all about nailing the melody rather than providing a legitimate interpretation that accentuates the lyrical content, although Shelton does do a pretty good job of injecting what limited emotion he can.
Don’t look now, but Darius Rucker, lead singer of 90s rock group Hootie & The Blowfish, has a country hit on his hands. What you probably haven’t heard is that Rucker is the first black artist to chart a single in the country top 20 since Charley Pride last did it in 1988.
News that former Sugarland member and co-founder Kristen Hall is suing her ex-mates, to the tune of $1.5 million, goes a long way towards providing a bit of context regarding the Atlanta singer/songwriter’s sudden departure from the group.

Julia, Catherine Britt was signed to RCA Nashville from 2002-2007 and recorded her albums “Too Far Gone” and “Little Wildflower” (produced by Dierks bentley’s producer Brett Beavers) in Nashville. Her song “Little Wildflower” is currently # 1 on the Aussie country singles charts and the music video was # 1 on the CMC video channel. She never became well known here in the US (How could she with no CDs released stateside?) but Catherine has quickly re-established herself as a top Aussie country star down under. Okay enough blabber…..

Kacey Musgraves was on Nashville Star, and has opened a few shows for Miranda Lambert, so I don’t know whether or not she’s too well-known for this post, but she isn’t on a major label… yet. So check her out, she’s great.
Jaida Dreyer also has some great music, and is country music traditionalist like Kacey.

Rick, I’ve stumbled acrossed Kirsty Lee Akers more than a few times (most likely because of you mentioning her) and she’s growing on me a little. She seems to blend the line between traditional and contemporary quite well.

I live in Nashville and have had the opportunity to see this girl play out a few times. The music she has on myspace pales in comparison to seeing her live. A ton of buzz going on about her in town right now. She not only has a unique, wonderful sound, she looks great and writes like a pro.

Jared Ashley, who was on Nashville Star of course, deserves a good label. Not just any label, a good one! Singing cover songs just won’t cut it for a guy with a voice like Jared, he has to sing stuff that fits him.

Another recommendation for Jaida Dreyer.
I recently saw her perform during CMA Fest with her band and was blown away. She ended up being one of my favorite new discoveries during the festival.
On a side note: she also had Carolyn Dawn Johnson backing her up which I thought was really, really cool. =)
