The 9513: The Story Behind The Name
We started The 9513 as a site about country music and hope to keep it going for a long time to come. But today, just this once, I want to share something personal. I’m not the kinda guy that feels comfortable sharing his feelings, as my wife can attest, but I feel strongly that this is something I should do. Who knows, it might even answer a question you’ve had. Brody and I were out and about today and I turned to him and said, “It’s been a year today,” and he already knew what I was talking about.
It’s been a year now
And I still don’t know how
To tell you that I miss you
They said you were supposed
To get to come homeBut before you left that bed
You left this ol’ world
And you don’t know
The tears we cried
The day you diedAnd it just wasn’t fair
We never got to say goodbye
But when I quit feelin’
Sorry for myself
I realized
You made it home alright
Dedicated in loving memory to Mattie Jean Gravenor Vercher (Gran). She was our grandmother and one of the most important people in our lives. She’s the reason this site exists today. Only a handful of people have asked what The 9513 means since we began writing a little under a year ago. It’s not anything profound and it isn’t even related to country music. It was simply the address of our grandma’s home. Our home. It was a place where you were always welcome. A place to go to get fed if you were hungry or to talk if you were lonely.
After her passing, our sister, Jenna, was out on her own for the first time in her life, so we figured we’d start up a blog to engage her time with something she loved. Little did we know that we’d eventually be taking over as Jenna became preoccupied with the rigors of life, but she’s doing wonderfully now. Along the way, Matt and Jim joined us, and we feel like we have a good thing going here. The 9513 is just a place where you can come to talk about country music and, hopefully, feel welcome.

And here I thought it was a secret launch code. ;)
Very nice story. I was raised by my Grandparents so I appreciate the sentiment.

Heh, it wouldn’t have been very much of a secret, would it? I’m glad you can appreciate the sentiment, though, and thanks.

I always wondered about the name. Great entry, Brady.

I wondered about the name but never enough to ask. I love the story. I do feel welcome here. And it is like Grandma’s. My Grandma’s (both of them) knew everything about everyone and that’s what the 9513 feels like to me. It’s the place where I get all my news about country music. People you and I both “know” and we can talk about.
~Heidi…proud to wear her 9513 shirt.
