Last.fm Top Artists

The 9513 group is up to 132 members, and 30 of them listened to Brad Paisley last week, making him the #1 artist. That should give him some consolation for having his #1 Billboard singles streak broken. Right behind him is George Strait (27 listeners), Miranda Lambert (26), Alan Jackson (25) and Dixie Chicks (24). Toby Keith and Keith Urban both had good showings, with 20 listeners each to put them into the Top 10. Singers like Josh Turner, Alison Krauss and Blake Shelton (all with 16) are starting to creep up the ranks as the group membership grows. We also had a strong showing for Creedence Clearwater Revival, who had 15 listeners. I don’t recall there being any Creedence-related news last week, so maybe this group has a lot of Stu Cook fans or something.

Last.fm Top Albums

The Top Artists chart is still very much dominated by mainstream country music, but there’s a distinct Americana influence in the Albums chart. The usual Top Album, Revolution, had 17 listeners, but albums in the Top 10 include The Avett BrothersI And Love And You at #6 with 11 listeners and Hayes Carll’s Trouble In Mind at #9 with 10. Country music still dominates, with Paisley and the Dixie Chicks having three albums each in the Top 10, but the variety is appreciated. Lady Antebellum had 11 listeners for its debut album and 6 for the “Need You Now” single, so their next album is likely to do well when it comes out.

Last.fm Top Singles

Now this is more like it. The four songs tied for #1 with 8 listeners are Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready To Make Nice,” Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” and The Avett Brothers’ “Kick Drum Heart” and “I And Love And You.” There are 17 songs in the Top 10 with few if any duds, actually. Granted, Gloriana has 7 listeners for “Wild At Heart,” but it’s at least catchy pop music, and it’s balanced out by the fact that there are four songs by the Avetts in the Top 10, plus Creedence’s “Fortunate Son,” Paisley’s “American Saturday Night” and Dixie Chicks’ “Goodbye Earl” with 6 listeners. Little Big Town comes out of nowhere to have 6 people play “I’m With The Band,” which was a minor, minor hit back in 2007. This is a very random week for our group.

Billboard Country Songs

Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” holds onto #1 for a second week, with Luke Bryan’s “Do I” moving up to #2. Dierks Bentley moves up 2 spaces to #7 with “I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes.” There wasn’t much movement anywhere on the charts, with most songs holding steady from last week. Martina McBride’s “I Just Call You Mine” showed some movement, albeit the wrong way, as it moved from #18 to #20. Paisley’s “American Saturday Night” had the most positive momentum, jumping from #30 to #4 after four weeks on the chart. “The Man I Want To Be” by Chris Young and “’Til Summer Comes Around” by Keith Urban are up to #47 and #32, respectively, after two weeks on the charts. And as proof that there is a God (#44 on the charts, by the way), Bucky Covington’s “Gotta Be Somebody” has fallen six spots to #57.

Billboard Country Albums

Carrie Underwood’s Play On is #1 again, where it’s been since its release. It looks like we’ve finally found something that can keep Taylor Swift’s Fearless at #2 for longer than a week. The big sales gainer for the week is Gold And Green by Sugarland, which has moved to #6 now that it’s seasonally appropriate. The other big gainer was the Now That’s What I Call A Country Christmas compilation, which moved from #22 to #13. To top that off, the only debut was a Country For Christmas EP from Capitol Records that showed up at #74. Wake me when something interesting gets released.

Americana Music Association Charts

The biggest news here is that I And Love And You moved from #7 to #6 and Corb Lund’s Losin’ Lately Gambler moved from #10 to #8. The rest of the Top 10 really didn’t change, with Rosanne Cash staying at #1 with The List, which had 473 spins. At least there was a good debut with Dave Rawlings Machine’s A Friend Of A Friend, giving me something to watch during this dead period for new releases.

I know I downloaded Someday Never Comes because it was featured in last week’s Sons Of Anarchy, so that may be it.

Martina McBride’s “I Just Call You Mine” showed some movement, albeit the wrong way, as it moved from #18 to #20.

Is that bit about the wrong way a typo? ;)

I wasn’t going to say it, but I had the same thought as Razor.

Lady A just got their third week at #1 on the BHCS! Hooray!

Also, “White Liar” by Miranda Lambert has moved up to #11 this upcoming week. Who knows, maybe it’ll be her first #1…

I could never have predicted that Luke Bryan’s single would charting this well. The gamble seemingly paid off I guess.

Here’s hoping Bucky’s new single will get a boost. It’s a good song and deserves to move on up the charts!!

This is probably the most varied chart we’ve ever had. Really great to see 132 members too.
