The 9513 1GB iPod Shuffle Contest

This is the first contest, of what we hope to be many, here at The 9513. The winner will receive a new 1GB iPod Shuffle filled with tracks/albums of varying artists. You can find the names of the included artists and bands below. We sought out some lesser known artists whose music we enjoy and got their permission before including it on the Shuffle. Even if you don’t win, it would be well worth your time and money to purchase each of these artists albums. They’re all exceptionally talented and entertaining. Update: We’ve updated the contest to include three t-shirts. The first person randomly selected will win the iPod Shuffle and a t-shirt. Two more people will be randomly selected to win one t-shirt apiece.

Included Albums/ Tracks

• Moot Davis from Little Dog Records
  We previously reviewed Moot Davis’s self-titled album on The 9513 at the beginning of December after receiving a press kit from his record label, Little Dog Records. You’d be hard pressed to find the classic country music style of Moot Davis without going back a few decades. When we decided to have the contest we knew we wanted to include Davis’s album, so we sent an email to Little Dog Records seeking permission which they graciously obliged to. If you’re a fan of Moot’s music then you’ll want to keep an eye out for his new album due to be released sometime in the spring.
• Dry Land Fish
  I recently discovered Dry Land Fish through another website and fell in love with their sound. Big thanks to Jonathan Hodges, Mark Whitley, and Darren Doyle for their permission to use their album. Their album is worth the price based on the harmonica alone. It hasn’t left the CD player in my truck since I bought it a few weeks back.
• Johnny Cooper – Ignition
  Johnny Cooper is a newcomer we heard about a few weeks back. He’s fairly young, but he can tear it up on the guitar. In addition to playing the guitar and singing he writes/co-writes all the songs, except for two, on his album Ignition. We haven’t had the chance to see him live, but he’s played with all the biggest names in Texas Country, which says something in itself.
• The Josh Davis Band – The White Whale
  We came upon The Josh Davis Band by recommendation from one of the readers here on The 9513. We visited his MySpace, listened to his music, loved it, emailed him, he said yes, and the rest is history. JD, as he refers to himself in emails, has a very rootsy sound about him that sets him apart from a lot of the music you hear these days. We thought he added a little balance to the list of exceptional talent already included on the Shuffle.
• Leah Durelle – Nine Days In Nashville
  Leah is another up and comer who got a hold of us through MySpace. At only 15 her voice is well beyond her age. It’s probably a little cliched to compare her to LeAnn Rimes, but it’s so hard not to, afterall Leah lists LeAnn as one of her influences. On the album Leah tackles a Hank Williams classic, Long Gone Lonesome Blues, and we actually like it, that’s how talented this girl is. We’ll be doing a more in depth review of her album as time permits, but in the mean time check out some of her music on MySpace.
• Aaron Watson
  We have been working with Aaron’s management company to get some of his music on the iPod and they graciously agreed to participate right away. I had the pleasure to see Aaron in person at the Gruene With Envy Awards a couple of days ago and this is definitely an excellent addition to the iPod.
• Joey Allcorn
  I was goofing around on the internet when I came across Joey’s website. I loved the samples, so I sent an email to his management to request a CD. You can expect a review once we receive his album. Both, Joey and his management, agreed to participate in the contest. Phoenix Publicity and Promotions even sent along the following CDs to review and each of the artists agreed to participate in the contest as well.
• The Skeeters
  The deep voice of the lead singer and smooth lyrics were an instant hit with me once I checked out some of The Skeeters’ samples. This is another album that I’m really looking forward to listening to once it gets here.
• Tony Brook
  “Jelly don’t shake like that… must be jam.” When I went to Tony’s MySpace page, those are the first lyrics I heard. I have to admit, they earned a little chuckle, but they weren’t quite my forte. Tony’s less funky songs are worth more than just one listen, though.
• Brigitte London
  For some reason her name sounds familiar to me, but I can’t place it. No matter, I won’t forget who she is next time I hear her name. Brigitte says she loves real rootsy country, gritty blues, lots of soul, and great rock and roll. She manages to combine those different styles into her music and the result sounds great.
• Honky Tonk Disciples
  The Honky Disciples say they “fall in between the boundaries of traditionally influenced country music spawned by Buck Owens and Hank Williams Sr., to the hard drinking and hard living musical era of Gram Parsons and the Rolling Stones.” I think these guys fill a niche quite nicely and kick the rowdy level up a notch, but they’re not one dimensional if that’s what you’re thinking.

The comment must be relevant to the post you are commenting on or relevant to the topic of discussion already occurring in the comments section. You may comment as many times as you wish, but please no spam.

After January 31st a comment will be randomly selected; the author of the comment will be the winner. The winner will be notified by email, so be sure you provide a valid email address. If the winner is not heard from within five business days of being contacted a new winner will be selected.
