The 44th Annual CMA Awards: Who Should Be Nominated

Blake Boldt | August 30th, 2010

Taylor Swift’s polarizing sweep of last year’s CMA Awards won’t be repeated when the trophies are handed out on Wednesday, Nov. 10 in Nashville. The multi-format superstar has had a relatively quiet year as she prepares for the release of her third album, Speak Now, due on Oct. 25.

Swift’s four victories, including the coveted Entertainer of the Year award, represented a shift in the industry’s attentions towards the next generation. That trend continued at this spring’s ACM Awards, when 20-somethings Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood received the lion’s share of the spoils. This trio of young talent will likely emerge again at the CMAs.

If I were handling the CMA ballot, here’s how it would look when nominations are announced over the next two days, with expected winners in bold. An emphasis is placed on artists who released new music within the eligibility period (July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010). The most notable absentee is Kenny Chesney, who took a brief hiatus from touring this year and had not released a studio album during the last twelve months.

Entertainer of the Year

Brad Paisley
Reba McEntire/George Strait
Carrie Underwood
Keith Urban
Zac Brown Band

Paisley’s sales numbers have dipped since his mid-decade peak, but with Kenny Chesney absent from the race, this is his best shot at snagging the trophy after six consecutive nominations. His extended streak of Top 2 singles at country radio is rivaled only by his fellow CMA co-host Underwood. This triple threat–singer, songwriter, musician–also continues to impress on the touring circuit and even earned an invite to the White House last year, evidence of his status as one of country music’s greatest ambassadors. Two veterans, McEntire and Strait, who defied Music Row’s emphasis on youth by co-headlining a successful tour to promote their latest gold-certified releases.

Predictions: Lady Antebellum, Paisley, Underwood, Urban, Zac Brown Band

Nominees: Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band

Male Vocalist of the Year

Dierks Bentley
Alan Jackson
Brad Paisley
George Strait
Josh Turner

Paisley’s reign as the premier male vocalist in country music, unbroken since 2007, seems secure for one more year. On the strength of their latest albums, chalk up nominations for category stalwarts Strait (26) and Jackson (17). Bentley and Turner received their first nominations in 2006 and 2007, respectively, and this year’s successes prove that both have earned a second chance. Gary Allan, unfortunately, is overlooked again.

Predictions: Bentley, Paisley, Strait, Turner, Urban

Nominees: Dierks Bentley, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, George Strait, Keith Urban

Female Vocalist of the Year

Rosanne Cash
Miranda Lambert
Patty Loveless
Reba McEntire
Carrie Underwood

Lambert, the likely belle of the ball this year, is the favorite for the first time in this category. McEntire made great strides commercially in 2010, and peers Patty Loveless and Rosanne Cash emerged with outstanding collections that honored country music’s past while pointing towards its future.

Predictions: Lambert, McBride, McEntire, Swift, Underwood

Nominees: Miranda Lambert, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood

Vocal Group of the Year

The Band Perry
Lady Antebellum
Little Big Town
Rascal Flatts
Zac Brown Band

Lady Antebellum is vying for the title of best-selling album of 2010, and their stats are simply too large to ignore. Zac Brown Band is hot on their heels, and Little Big Town enjoyed a strong commercial comeback this year and remains the most artistically compelling in the bunch.

Predictions: The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band

Nominees: The Band Perry, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band

Vocal Duo of the Year

Brooks & Dunn
Court Yard Hounds
Joey + Rory
Steel Magnolia
Sugarland

Brooks & Dunn will snag a retirement prize by winning this trophy for the fifteenth time. Montgomery Gentry has stalled at country radio, while the Court Yard Hounds have moved nearly 200,000 units since their eponymous album was released in May.

Predictions: Brooks & Dunn, Joey + Rory, Montgomery Gentry, Steel Magnolia, Sugarland

Nominees: Brooks & Dunn, Joey & Rory, Montgomery Gentry, Steel Magnolia, Sugarland

Single of the Year

“The House That Built Me,” Miranda Lambert
“I Keep on Loving You,” Reba McEntire
“Little White Church,” Little Big Town
“Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum
“‘Til Summer Comes Around,” Keith Urban

Predictions: “Highway 20 Ride,” The House That Built Me,” “Need You Now,” “Temporary Home,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance”

Nominees: “A Little More Country Than That,” “Hillbilly Bone,” “Need You Now,” “The House That Built Me,” “White Liar”

Song of the Year

“Fifteen,” Taylor Swift (Taylor Swift)
“Highway 20 Ride,” Zac Brown Band (Zac Brown, Wyatt Durrette)
“The House That Built Me,” Miranda Lambert (Tom Douglas, Allen Shamblin)
“Welcome to the Future,” Brad Paisley (Brad Paisley, Chris Dubois)
“‘Til Summer Comes Around,” Keith Urban (Keith Urban, Monty Powell)

“The House That Built Me,” a four-week No. 1 single, is far out in front of the other contenders. Only Lady Antebellum’s crossover smash poses even the smallest challenge.

Predictions: “Highway 20 Ride,” The House That Built Me,” “Need You Now,” “Temporary Home,” “Why Don’t We Just Dance”

Nominees: “A Little More Country Than That,” “Need You Now,” “The House That Built Me,” “Toes,” “White Liar”

Album of the Year

The List, Rosanne Cash
Freight Train, Alan Jackson
Revolution, Miranda Lambert
Twang, George Strait
Up on the Ridge, Dierks Bentley

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was omitted from the list in 2007, but Lambert’s third album is nearing platinum and cemented her status as the strongest artist of her age group. Expect Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now, a patchy effort from Nashville’s newest superstars, to soar onto the official nominee list.

Predictions: Need You Now, Play On, Revolution, Twang, Up on the Ridge

Nominees: Need You Now, Play On, Revolution, Twang, Up on the Ridge

New Artist of the Year

The Band Perry
Laura Bell Bundy
Easton Corbin
Chris Young
Zac Brown Band

A pair of No. 1 singles–”Gettin’ You Home” and “The Man I Want to Be”–give Young the edge over his closest rival, Corbin. Bundy’s debut album is the most ambitious from the newcomers, and her opportunity may yet come. Zac Brown Band, who has zoomed into superstardom in less than two years, is the favorite if they receive a nomination in this odd category.

Predictions: The Band Perry, Bundy, Corbin, Young, Zac Brown Band

Nominees: Luke Bryan, Easton Corbin, Jerrod Niemann, Chris Young, Zac Brown Band

Vocal Event of the Year

“Bad Angel,” Dierks Bentley, Jamey Johnson & Miranda Lambert
“Blue Sky,” Emily West & Keith Urban
“Seeing Stars,” Jack Ingram & Patty Griffin
“‘Till the End,” Alan Jackson & Lee Ann Womack
“What Can I Say,” Carrie Underwood & Sons of Sylvia

Only two contenders–”Blue Sky” and “Seeing Stars”–received scattered airplay. ACM Award-winning “Hillbilly Bone” will land on the short list, but the Jackson/Womack duet might be hard for CMA voters to resist.

Predictions: “Bad Angel,” “Blue Sky,” “Hillbilly Bone,” “‘Til the End,” “What Can I Say”

Prediction: “Bad Angel,” “Can’t You See” (ZBB/Kid Rock), “Hillbilly Bone,” “I’m Alive,” “Till the End”

Music Video of the Year

“Fifteen,” Taylor Swift
“The House That Built Me,” Miranda Lambert
“Need You Now,” Lady Antebellum
“Swingin’,” Leann Rimes
“Welcome to the Future,” Brad Paisley

None of these videos is especially interesting, and the CMA often repeats the Single/Song category here. Lambert by a nose.

Predictions: “Fifteen,” The House That Built Me,” “Need You Now,” “Temporary Home,” “Welcome to the Future”

Nominees: “Hillbilly Bone,” “Need You Now,” “The House That Built Me,” “Water,” “White Liar”

i agree with all of your predictions, except single of the year, consider me gone spent 4 weeks at #1, so instead of i keep of loving you that should be nominated.

And i can see this being reba’s first entertainer of the year in 20 years

she will easily nab a female vocalist nomination

    August 30, 2010 at 5:23 pm

I think it’s time Blake Shelton starts getting some male vocalist nominations.

  3. Rick
    August 30, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Wow Blake, you really put a lot of thought and effort into concocting this feature! I didn’t know there were still people out there, apart from Alison Bonaguro, that were so into the Top 40 country scene and consider it significant, important, or musically relevant. Can’t really say I give a sh*t about any of the mainstream country awards shows (or the music they celebrate), but you have done a nice job here. Kudos!

yeah i agree with code, reba totally deserves !!!!!
i hope she wins *-* sick of carrie !!! AND BLAKE CONGRATS YOU ROCK !!!! love you both <3

What about Jason Aldean?? I think he should definitely be nominated for male vocalist.

  7. Omar
    August 30, 2010 at 8:56 pm

Just keep Zac Brown Band out of the New Artist category. That would be utterly ridiculous, seeing as they’re already a 2-year country band that’s more than settled in. They’ve won the Best New Artist Grammy; they’re no longer NEW after that win.

As for the Entertainer of the Year Award, I don’t think this will be Brad’s year (again). Sorry, but he’s had a slump-ish year compared to Carrie and Lady Antebellum. If I had to make a prediction based on sales, certifications, touring, charts, and publicity, it would be Carrie Underwood by the largest landslide possible. Lady Antebellum would be her only threat.

Male Vocalist – yeah, definitely Brad. Female Vocalist – yeah, definitely Miranda. Carrie may pose a threat, but it’s about time Miranda gets recognized.

Single/Song – I’d bet on “The House That Built Me” and “Need You Now” as being the two winners (could care less which song took home which award). Album of the Year will go to either Lady A, Miranda, or Carrie, but probably Miranda.

Video may actually go to Carrie or Taylor. Sorry, but they will always try to throw Taylor a bone because she’s bought them out (*recalls last year’s outrageous four undeserved wins*), and “The House That Built Me” wasn’t as great a video to compete with “Temporary Home”. I’d bet on Carrie taking this award. Vocal Event? I can’t believe anyone even recognized the fabulous collaboration of Carrie and Sons of Sylvia, but I’d bet on “Seeing Stars”.

  8. Alley
    August 30, 2010 at 9:06 pm

I think Carrie has a shot at EOTY, but I agree that Brad is very deserving too. I hope Cowboy Casanova gets some love for Video or Single.

I think Miranda is the favorite for Female Vocalist, but Carrie also had a big year too, with more number 1s and more album sales, bigger tour, etc, then Miranda. However, I think Miranda will win as she had a great year too.

For the men, I would love to see Blake Shelton sneak in for a nomination, but I think Keith Urban deserves to win this year. I love Brad and I am glad he has won so many times, but I think it is time to give someone else a chance.

Album: I think Play On by Carrie, Miranda, Lady A, George Strait, and Dierks will get the noms, with Miranda winning.

  9. gloria
    August 30, 2010 at 9:30 pm

Alley, I so agree with you about Keith deserving Male Vocalist, but he’s won it 3 times before Brad started winning, so I doubt it will go to Keith. Kinda love to see Dierks get it. I much rather see Keith get Entertainer. He puts on a much better show than any of the ones listed here…IMO. I know Keith’s not a traditionalist, but I could care less. His shows are dynamite! Hope Miranda gets Female Vocalist. I just want to wipe the memory of the sickening show last year out of my mind. Everything about the annoying Taylor Swift just grates on me. I turn the radio off when she comes on and the TV when she’s on. It’s hard for me to think of her listed in the CMHF next to icons and legends of country. Man, I hope people wake up before that ever happens.

    4 things:
    - It’s inevitable that this will be another big night for Miranda.
    - Brooks & Dunn is still getting nominated?!
    - My odd (and usually horribly wrong) instincts are telling me that the conquista-Swift will nab another EOTY nom, making it 2 solo females (other one being that other one… Underwood is it?) getting noms.
    - I miss Alison Krauss.

I agree with Omar about Carrie winning video for TH.
I think it is by far the best video of the year.

  12. Steve Harvey
    August 30, 2010 at 10:54 pm

I’d be thrilled with any recognition Lambert receives, particularly for her stellar album.

If it’s her year, it may give the Bentley/Johnson duet an edge, which I’d also welcome.

I wouldn’t count ‘Need You Now’ out for the Song/Single stakes, but I agree that ‘The House That Built Me’ is a likely winner.

While Miranda has had a breakout year, her numbers pale compared to Carrie. Yes, “Revolution” is getting close to platinum as its approaching 900k. On the other hand, “Play On” has sold 1.7 million and is approaching 2x platinum. Wonder why that’s not mentioned. Cowboy Casanova has sold more than twice The House That Built Me. Undo It just surpassed 750k and is going Platinum. Temporary Home has gone Gold. And how are the other single(s) on Revolution doing??

New Artist of the Year as well. :)

  19. gloria
    August 31, 2010 at 7:33 am

13 #1 songs in a row does not make the best entertainer, IMO. That’s just because radio DJs love him. Some of those songs of his were not #1 worthy songs too. Brad will probably get it, because so many say, it’s his time…whatever that means. I never leave his show wanting more like I do Keith’s. But that’s just me.

AS I’ve said before, Entertainer of the Year is such a poorly defined catelgory as to be meaningless. If the performer can’t simply take the guitar, sit on a stool and enthrall an audience for 90 minutes, they aren’t entertainers, merely performers

  21. Pierce
    August 31, 2010 at 8:12 am

I have a difficult time believing that Rosanne Cash and Patty Loveless will be nominated. (As sad as that may be… I’m a realist.)

    @ Paul ….. “Ditto” :-)

  23. Blake Boldt
    August 31, 2010 at 8:45 am

@Rick: I don’t know if I’ve just been praised or punted.

@Omar: The New Artist category is usually such a crapshoot, and while the criteria remains unchanged, the results from year to year are odd. To me, Zac Brown Band has had its one shot at the trophy, but how many new artists have a tremendous amount of success in their first year? It’s hard to limit the category to pure rookies.

@Pierce: Oh, there’s no way Cash and Loveless are nominated, but the female roster is so poor that they definitely deserve it. If Swift slides in, that’s fine, but what has any other woman done to be in the final five?

@All: If commercial stats are the only consideration, then why go through the trouble of nominations anyway, other than to support a three-hour advertisement for the industry on ABC? I do think, though, that sales and touring numbers should be a factor, but not the end-all, be-all.

  24. PETER

“But there’s a very different narrative. Lambert is the underdog being fully discovered by the mainstream at last, while Underwood has been a gizillion-seller for years now.”

The breakout is relative to Miranda. Analogy: baseball MVP voting. Someone hits 55 hrs, 140 rbi’s. Someone else who usually hits 10 hrs, hits 40 hrs and has 110 rbi’s. Who should be MVP? This player should get “most improved” player award, but not MVP.

If the performer can’t simply take the guitar, sit on a stool and enthrall an audience for 90 minutes, they aren’t entertainers, merely performers.

Now that’s “poorly defined” – i.e., it’s precise but utterly arbitrary. And ungrammatical, too.

  26. Jon
    August 31, 2010 at 9:28 am

If commercial stats are the only consideration, then why go through the trouble of nominations anyway…

Yep. And once you get beyond actually quantifiable achievements, it’s all pretty much subjective. I understand why awards are important from the winner’s perspective and from the industry’s, but I really don’t get why anyone else would get so worked up about them.

  27. Blake Boldt
    August 31, 2010 at 9:55 am

Paul W Dennis writes, “If the performer can’t simply take the guitar, sit on a stool and enthrall an audience for 90 minutes, they aren’t entertainers, merely performers.”

Huh? This seems no more credible than claiming “If all they do is sit on a stool and play a guitar and sing, they aren’t entertainers but mere performers.”

  31. Paul W Dennis
    August 31, 2010 at 10:23 am

Let me rephrase – if it takes smoke, videos, canned musical supplements and light shows for a performance to be successful and the crowd entertained then the real entertainers of the year are the technical support staffs – the sound engineers and special effects folks

  32. Jon
    August 31, 2010 at 10:41 am

    Better rephrase some more.

Besides, I think it’s yet to be shown that the criteria for the Entertainer of the Year award are “so poorly defined…as to be meaningless” in the first place. Here they are:

“This award is for the act displaying the greatest competence in all aspects of the entertainment field. Voter should give consideration not only to recorded performance, but also to the in-person performance, staging, public acceptance, attitude, leadership, and overall contribution to the Country Music image. Award to artist.”

(Note: there are exactly 0 quantifiable criteria on that list)

Why is “this award is for the act that can take a guitar, sit on a stool and enthrall an audience for 90 minutes” any better than that? In any respect?

  33. sam (sam)
    August 31, 2010 at 11:15 am

Perhaps the “real entertainers of the year” be the “technical support staffs” if it takes “smoke, videos, canned musical supplement…” for “a performance to be successful.

Buf it so, why should not the “real entertainers of the year” be the company that made the guitar, the company that made the stool, the builder and architect of the venue in the case of the singer who entertains by merely sitting on a stool for 90 minutes and entertaining with guitar and voice?

In both cases, no one individual made the entertaining performance possible. Why should the entertainer who relies on the efforts of those who make smoke machines, videos, et cetera be disqualified while the entertainer who relies on chair and guitar makers be qualified?

And to go further – should one be qualified for entertainer of the year if one merely sits on a stool with a guitar and sings, but sings songs written by others? Co-written by others? If relying on smoke machines made by others disqualifies one, why should or should not relying on songs written by others disqualify one?

I’m doubtful as to the merits of this sort of approach to the question of who should be qualified for these awards.

  34. Stormy
    August 31, 2010 at 11:38 am

    leadership?

Seriously? What defines “leadership” in a musical act?

  35. Omar
    August 31, 2010 at 10:22 pm

“A Little More Country Than That”. Really?
“White Liar” in three different categories. Really?
    “Toes”. Really?
Zac Brown Band in the Best New Artist category. REALLY?

I’m sorry, but the CMAs have done one heck of a half-crap job at this ballot. Yes, “The House That Built Me” and “Need You Now” deserve those nods, but where the heck is the love for BETTER songs, like “Hard Hat and a Hammer” by Alan Jackson, “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood (how did that not get a music video nod?), or “The Truth” by Jason Aldean?

There’s one good thing that came out of this partial list — there’s NO TAYLOR SWIFT! I can’t stomach another Taylor-sympathy-buttkissing-festival like last year. Goodness, that was a disaster. I’m sure she will receive nods tomorrow in the major categories, but she won’t win this year. It will be such a nice ceremony because of that.

As of this partial ballot, the CMAs could’ve done a LOT better, in my humble opinion. Unfortunately, it is what it is. I’m still glad to see the Miranda love!

“Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood (how did that not get a music video nod?)

By being one sacchrine song past the point where all the lab rats got cancer. You will notice the category is pap free.

How did carrie Underwood not get a nomination for Entertainer of the Year??
    By not being entertaining.

Bob Cole brought up an interesting point regarding Taylor Swift. Are awards show going to stop nominating her to give themselves plausable deniability when she flubs her vocals on their shows?

  43. Jon
    September 1, 2010 at 9:51 am

Does Bob Cole not realize that awards shows don’t make nominations (trade associations composed of industry professionals do), or would that be Stormy making such an embarrassing mistake?

  44. Stormy
    September 1, 2010 at 10:07 am

Jon: The members of Academy DO nominate the singers (and thus make the show possible) and they are the ones she embarrasses when she has vocal meltdowns like The Grammys. He was most likely taking this view and not the overly literal one you always take.

  45. Jon
    September 1, 2010 at 10:54 am

Um, those “embarrassed” Academy (and Academy and Association) members are the ones who keep nominating her for awards, and giving her a healthy number of them, too. I don’t see where they’re embarrassed at all. Heck, I’m one of them, and I’m not embarrassed in the least. On the other hand, if I were someone who liked to bleat that “technically good” singing doesn’t matter at all half the time, and blather that “technically good” singing matters a lot the other half of the time, I’d be embarrassed. YMMV, and obviously does.

I’m kicking myself for not taking Lambert’s chances at Entertainer seriously. I believe she made the best music in the field this year, and to me, that’s one of the major yardsticks to use in judging that category, along with all the other considerations listed in the criteria. It’s an all-encompassing honor, after all.

I at least selected the Female Vocalist, Group, Duo and Album nominees correctly. Hold your applause.

    September 1, 2010 at 11:16 am Permalink 4 Grammys, 6 CMA awards, 3 ACM awards, I’d say that’s a pretty healthy number.

That was back before she sang to terribly on those awards shows. She hasn’t been nominated for much since she gave such a disasterous showing that even Stevie Nicks couldn’t make her look good.

She hasn’t been nominated for much since…

There haven’t been many awards to be nominated for since she won those Grammy awards. And note that the CMA’s voting members nominated her for Female Vocalist of the Year. So evidently they’re not too embarrassed by her vocal performances.

On the other hand, someone who likes to bleat that “technically good” singing doesn’t matter at all half the time, and blather that “technically good” singing matters a lot the other half of the time, should definitely be embarrassed.

i think George Strait deserves the Male Vocalist Award. I also think his song “living for the night” should have been nominated. It is a terrific song. My guess is that Miranda will win Song of the Year, Album of the Year and female vocalist. Although Twang should win for Album of the Year. Brad Paisley will win EOTY.

although Miranda has had a good year, artistically, etc. i think the album of the year should go to George Strait for TWANG. HE’S STILL COUNTRY – HE’S STILL GREAT -HE CONSISTENTLY OUTDOES HIMSELF.

    I’m rooting for…

Entertainer of the Year – Miranda Lambert or Keith Urban, they both have had great years and deserve the trophy.

Male Vocalist – Brad Paisley (or maybe Urban, it depends on if he gets Entertainer or not)

Female Vocalist – Miranda Lambert, with Carrie Underwood trailing a little ways behind

Group – This one’s got me pulled three ways – Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, and Little Big Town. If any of them win (which is very likely), I’ll be happy.

Duo – I don’t think I really like any of them, to be honest…

Single – This is a rather disappointing catagory. Why are “A Little More Country Than That” and “Hillbilly Bone” on the list? I’ll root for “The House That Built Me” or “Need You Now.”

Song – Once again, disappointing. “Til Summer Comes Around” would be my choice if it was on here… that being said, I root for the same two for the Single of the Year.

New Artist – Folks, Zac Brown Band was TWO YEARS AGO! Chris Young or Jerrod Niemann are my two favorites for it. I do like Corbin, but there’s just something about the other two that’s more favorable.

Music Video – Probably “White Liar” for this one.

Once again, the CMAs snubbed Carrie from the EOTY category.

She had the biggest year, and even the idiot haters like Stormy on here can’t argue that. 3 #1s (going on 4 with Mama’s Song), Superbowl National Anthem performance, Christmas special, near-2x Platinum album, 2 Gold singles, a Platinum single, BHC went 3x Platinum (surpassing LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live”), a sold-out 106 date tour, her first-ever international appearance (Singapore), C.A.T.S. foundation, Pedigree Foundation, ACM Lifting Lives: the Temporary Home Foundation, became the first-ever 2x female EOTY for the ACMs (as well as first to win it consecutively), 2 ACMs, 1 PCA, 2 CMTs, her 5th Grammy, she was hand selected by the Jackson family themselves to pay tribute to Michael at the Grammys, “How I Met Your Mother” appearance, “Soul Surfer” filming, “Chronicles of Narnia” soundtrack cut (she also co-wrote it), numerous ASCAP and writing awards, sold out the Hollywood Bowl, her wedding, 4 critically-acclaimed music videos, etc.

I could go on, but I’d just be wasting even more time than I already have. She’s by far the biggest and best entertainer of the year. She’s had an astounding 2010, and if she can’t get an Entertainer of the Year nod after this ground-breaking year, I don’t know how she ever will.

I think ETOY should go to people, not robots.

Stormy: “I think ETOY should go to people, not robots.”

Me: Anti-robot rhetoric is hate speech. Why deny Rosie from the Jetsons or Robot from Lost in Space the opportunity?

My guess is that Blake/Dierks will rule each other out; Brad will win Eoty; Keith will not win male vocalist; that leaves the King himself, George Strait. It has been too long since he last won. He still has the best voice in country music.

Miranda will win female vocalist; album; song of the year; video. That’s it. As much as she is talented she is not ready to take home the EOTY award.
