“Thank You Miss Audrey (For Breaking Hank’s Heart)”
- I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We used yesterday as an extended break from posting, besides there’s not much news to report on and only one album of note (that I can find) came out today, Jason Aldean’s Relentless.
- If you plan on hitting up the CMA Music Festival then be sure to check out one of the free concerts featuring Jason Michael Carroll, Elizabeth Cook, Jennifer Hanson, Tanya Tucker and Darryl Worley. That’s a pretty decent lineup, if you ask me.
- An article from the Star-Telegram argues that females are taking the done-me-wrong songs to a whole new level, and they’re a lot tougher and angrier than their “rugged cowboy” male counterparts. They go on to dissect a few songs from the likes of Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and Kellie Pickler to back up their case.
- Music City Syndicate has a lengthy piece on recent Harvard graduate, Liz Carlisle, in which she unleashes this pearl of wisdom:
“I think most people have come to the long overdue realization that country music is not hick music,” Liz says. “It’s an incredibly rich tradition with a lot of wisdom about humanity, and I think people of all backgrounds are attracted to that.”
- Toby Keith is one of eight people who have been chosen to be inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.
- And lastly, on this day in 1952 Hank Williams and his wife Audrey were divorced. As the Bruce Robison penned/Geezinslaw performed song so aptly puts it, “I want to thank you Miss Audrey, for breaking Hank’s heart.”
