i think you are crazy! shoud've said no is an amazing song with great instrumental parts and taylor has a great voice. i love the way the song starts out sad and quiet, and explodes into a burst of anger and emotion. it is a really personal, emotional song that shows off taylor's true talent. taylor is an amazing new artist and this is one of my favorite songs.

Wow! thank you for finally getting real about Taylor's pitchy voice! I doubt she can even hear it and doubt she'll learn how to correct it? You're born with it or you're not. Sure modern technology can pitch correct recordings, but live performances are a bit more difficult to cover up. 5 yrs ago she'd not even been considered, let alone signed! Taylor's success is all about the record industry loosing big time $$$ ! and trying to feed us some glittery darling to consume. Disney has the corner market on that. Country Music fans please wake up and don't be so gullible!!!

Taylor may have the business savvy down but Carrie has been the torch bearer for a new generation of country fans.

Ok, but Carrie never wore a wet t-shirt on national television.

Denise says that "Carrie kicked the door open for Taylor to pass through."

Since this is a metaphor (Carrie didn't literally kick any doors open), how exactly do we know that Taylor would have encountered a metaphorical closed door had not Carrie been there first?

What exactly was the closed door that Taylor would have faced? Her age (but see Tanya Tucker and LeAnn Rimes), her gender (lots of women singers pre-Carrie), her subject matter (Carrie really doesn't sing about the high school topics Taylor favors)?

Moreover, lets assume that absent Carrie, Taylor Swift would have faced a closed door. Ok. What's to assume that Taylor wouldn't have simply opened the door herself (with help from record labels, etc)?

No doubt most (all?) of today's artists operate in a world of possibilities and constraints that artists of a prior generation helped create. But more specifically, what constraints would Taylor have faced that Carrie removed?

I would argue that she is exactly a new Garth Brooks--and over rated marketing tool. Does it really matter that Taylor writes her own music if "Should've Said No" is the best that she can do? Would she not be better off covering Matraca Berg or someone who can craft a compelling song?

Actually Frank and all others who say that Taylors debut is the defining album of this generation and that she has been the catalyst for a whole new generation of country fans, I would have to disagree with you there, Carrie Underwood already has that title, need I remind you Carrie kicked the door open for Taylor to pass through, Some Hearts is the album of the generation and Carrie has the awards and accolades to dispute your post. Taylor may have the business savvy down but Carrie has been the torch bearer for a new generation of country fans. Period
