Tim McGraw Set To Launch His Own Fragrance
File this one under the sketchy column, but apparently Beyonce is intent on recording a “country” album.
“She is a big fan of country music and thought that would be an interesting and exciting way to go.
“She tested the waters at the American Music Awards last weekend and she is up for it.”
And who is she [...]Continue reading "Tim McGraw Set To Launch His Own Fragrance"

New Opry Theme Song From Brad Paisley To Debut Tomorrow Night
Not everyone who hears the new Bingham album is immediately hooked. Andrew Gilstrap rates the album a little above average, claiming “Mescalito is surprisingly devoid of edge.”
AMA board member Doyle Davis says that “Americana tends to favor lyricists,” and because of that sometimes the country-flavored acts get more emphasis even though the genre encompasses R&B, [...]Continue reading "New Opry Theme Song From Brad Paisley To Debut Tomorrow Night"

Grand Ole Opry Finds New Home With XM Satellite Radio
Houston Press ranks the 10 worst songs to ever come out of Houston. Both Kenny Rogers and Clint Black make the list for “You Decorated My Life” and “I Raq and Roll” (which sounds horrible from the title alone). Both artists also make The Houston 100, a list of Houston’s top songs ever. The list [...]

Brad Paisley vs. Kellie Pickler: You Be The Judge
Ivan Maisel makes a couple of Brad Paisley references in his 2007 College Football preview.
Special teams might decide a lot of games, because coaching strategy will come straight out of another new Paisley lyric (almost), I’d like to check you for kicks.
Why does he allude to Paisley you ask, because Paisley sings with a twang [...]Continue reading "Brad Paisley vs. Kellie Pickler: You Be The Judge"

George Strait Tied With Conway Twitty For Most Number 1 Singles
Joe Samuel Starnes recalls his first Willie Nelson Fourth of July Picnic for The New York Times.
His show was transcendent. That’s a highfalutin word that I would almost never use, but I honestly felt as if I were taking a trip back in time to another era, through Willie’s guitar and voice and the artful [...]Continue reading "George Strait Tied With Conway Twitty For Most Number 1 Singles"

Rodney Atkins Celebrates Platinum Status And Last Of The Breed Debuts At #7 On Billboard
Michelle Branch, from the “country” duo The Wreckers, has a stalker. The guy shows up at all of her shows, sends her letters and videos, and even lunged at her once during an autograph session. Scary stuff.
Dierks Bentley and his wife Cassidy talked to People about their wedding on the beach in Mexico.
Although Dierks and [...] -
Sara Evans Divorce Update, Planned Chris LeDoux Statue, And New Willie Nelson Record Label
In an effort to curb what is called “payola” in the radio industry, radio broadcasters have agreed to pay the government 12.5 million and provide free airtime for independent record labels and local artists. The article doesn’t list any genres specifically, but hopefully this deal is inclusive of the country genre and we’ll see some [...]

Merle Haggard Going Bluegrass And Alan Jackson Teams Up With Brooks & Dunn
Can you think of a bigger badass than Kris Kristofferson? Yea, me neither. He’s had an accomplished career as a songwriter, singer, and actor. He is a Rhodes scholar and could have had a promising career in the military had he not turned it down for doing something he’s passionate about. Star-Telegram.com has an article [...]

We've labored long and hard to come up with our list of the Top 10 Country Albums of 2008. Click here to see who claimed the honor of the year's top album, as chosen by The 9513's staff and writers.
Don’t confuse disappointing with worst, as that list would most likely be dominated by obscure indie knockoff bands along with a couple of mainstream releases. There has to be a modicum of expectation that’s dashed upon the release of an album for it to qualify for the year’s most disappointing.
Join host Kelly Dearmore as he shines the light on several noteworthy album releases you might have missed and interviews various artists, from Sarah Borges to Trent Willmon and Reckless Kelly to Wade Bowen, in the first two episode of The 9513 podcast.
Jim Malec counts down the top 20 country music news stories of 2008. How many times do you think John Rich will be mentioned?
