43rd Annual ACM Awards: Who Should Have Been Nominated
In a perfect world, The 9513 staff would select the ACM nominees and fans would not vote for Entertainer of the Year. Here in the real world, the Academy votes for the nominees, the fans vote for the Entertainer, and I make fun of both.
There are only two rules: as much as I’d like to, [...]Continue reading "43rd Annual ACM Awards: Who Should Have Been Nominated"

Montgomery Gentry - “Back When I Knew it All”
Songwriters:: Gary Hannan, Phil O’Donnell, Trent Willmon
Nostalgia for a hell-raising youth has become a dominant theme on country radio and I can’t explain why. It wasn’t a very good idea in the first place and has only become worse as every Lynyrd Skynyrd-inspired wanna-be rocker has released their own rewrite of the same theme. [...]Continue reading "Montgomery Gentry - “Back When I Knew it All”"

Despite bluegrass authorities contrary opinions Edward Morris fully supports Rhonda [...] -

Montgomery Gentry - “Whattya Think About That”
I dug the sweet intro to Montgomery Gentry’s latest single, “Whattya Think About That,” but, sadly, that’s the only redeeming quality this song has to offer. If they would have put it on a loop and released it as an instrumental, I would have enjoyed it more. With this single, Troy and Eddie have [...]

Strait’s Songs Becoming Caricature And Jason Aldean Films Johnny Cash Video
There are some country executives in Nashville who aren’t happy with the way the Grammys unfolded. They feel snubbed since Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts couldn’t perform their own songs and say that this isn’t the only year that country music has been discriminated against, but years past as well, and all the pent up [...]

Kenny Rogers Abandons Dream Home And Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert Disagree
Kenny Rogers has upset some residents in Sandy Springs, GA after abandoning the construction of his dream home. Neighbors to the land, where granite was blasted away and tree were cleared, feel like Rogers has ruined the property. He cited the house as being too big for his wife and twin sons if he were [...]

We've labored long and hard to come up with our list of the Top 10 Country Albums of 2008. Click here to see who claimed the honor of the year's top album, as chosen by The 9513's staff and writers.
Don’t confuse disappointing with worst, as that list would most likely be dominated by obscure indie knockoff bands along with a couple of mainstream releases. There has to be a modicum of expectation that’s dashed upon the release of an album for it to qualify for the year’s most disappointing.
Join host Kelly Dearmore as he shines the light on several noteworthy album releases you might have missed and interviews various artists, from Sarah Borges to Trent Willmon and Reckless Kelly to Wade Bowen, in the first two episode of The 9513 podcast.
Jim Malec counts down the top 20 country music news stories of 2008. How many times do you think John Rich will be mentioned?
