The Start of Something Big: Big State Festival Day One
Only a few short hours removed, via sleep, from the end of the first day of Big State Festival, and only a couple hours until the second day begins, we find ourselves beat and wore down, but eagerly anticipating another day of great music and fast cars. The blisters, cherry red sunburn, and general [...]

Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, & Barbara Mandrell Inducted Into Music City Walk of Fame
I’ve posted a number of interviews with Billy Joe Shaver and I may be a little biased, but I think the interview that Brady scored for The 9513 is the best yet. I was giddy like a school girl when he walked next door to Waterloo Records and played me the recording.
On November 20 Time [...] -
Clay Walker And Jessica Craig Serenaded By Tracy Lawrence At Their Wedding
Like The Gobblers Knob I have a habit of spending too much money on books, but unlike The Knob I haven’t stepped foot inside a library in years. He recently discovered that aside from books the library also has a nice collection of music that you can check out.
Lyle Lovett has been scheduled to [...]Continue reading "Clay Walker And Jessica Craig Serenaded By Tracy Lawrence At Their Wedding"

Grand Ole Opry Finds New Home With XM Satellite Radio
Houston Press ranks the 10 worst songs to ever come out of Houston. Both Kenny Rogers and Clint Black make the list for “You Decorated My Life” and “I Raq and Roll” (which sounds horrible from the title alone). Both artists also make The Houston 100, a list of Houston’s top songs ever. The list [...]

Help Lonestar Beer Pick A New Unofficial “National Anthem of Texas”
Out of all the songs he’s written, the music he’s made, and the few movies he’s performed in Lyle Lovett says his greatest joy and accomplishment is rescuing the land that his family sold to developers in the ’80s.
Two police officers have been fired and may spend up to a year in jail after they [...]Continue reading "Help Lonestar Beer Pick A New Unofficial “National Anthem of Texas”"

Here’s To Hank Williams
Referring to Joe Nichols’ new album Edward Morris asks, “So what is the ‘real thing’ when it comes to Joe Nichols? Is he the brooding, introspective soul conveyed in ‘The Impossible’ and ‘If Nobody Believed in You’ or the party animal implicit in ‘Tequila’ and ‘What’s a Guy Gotta Do’?”
“I don’t think they’re two different [...] -

Hopes Of Record Executives Head To Nashville For Fourth Quarter
In the New York Times Kelefa Senneh writes “It’s a yearly tradition: Summer ends, the fourth quarter looms (after a dismal first three), and the fragile hopes of record executives head south, to Nashville.” She then lists a few country artists who might be able to break out of the sales slump.
The Sara Evans [...]Continue reading "Hopes Of Record Executives Head To Nashville For Fourth Quarter"

Digital Dolly Parton Wants You To Give Her A Play
Despite their musical prowess, Bruce Robison and his wife Kelly Willis like to keep their careers separate for the sake of their own sanity. John Goodspeed says they “could portray the everyday American married couple — if the average family had four children under age 6.” Willis mentions that their four year-old twins write songs [...]

We've labored long and hard to come up with our list of the Top 10 Country Albums of 2008. Click here to see who claimed the honor of the year's top album, as chosen by The 9513's staff and writers.
Don’t confuse disappointing with worst, as that list would most likely be dominated by obscure indie knockoff bands along with a couple of mainstream releases. There has to be a modicum of expectation that’s dashed upon the release of an album for it to qualify for the year’s most disappointing.
Join host Kelly Dearmore as he shines the light on several noteworthy album releases you might have missed and interviews various artists, from Sarah Borges to Trent Willmon and Reckless Kelly to Wade Bowen, in the first two episode of The 9513 podcast.
Jim Malec counts down the top 20 country music news stories of 2008. How many times do you think John Rich will be mentioned?
