Honky Tonky Happy Hour: Why I Won’t Be Watching The CMA Awards
I haven’t watched the CMA awards in years. Sometimes I’ve had a gig, but most of the time, there wasn’t anything there to interest me. I would flip channels and land on the awards show, but wouldn’t stay long. In the 80s, I didn’t miss a show. All my favorite artists were on. Country [...]

Great Country Songs from the 1970s, Pt. 7
Some more songs that I liked, one song per artist, not necessarily the biggest hit. As always, I consider myself free to comment on other songs by the artist.
“I’m Having Your Baby” – Sunday Sharpe (1974)
Female answer to a rather lame Paul Anka hit with the answer song being better (or at least more [...]Continue reading "Great Country Songs from the 1970s, Pt. 7"

Forgotten Artists: Jody Miller
Jody Miller is best remembered for “Queen of The House,” an answer song to Roger Miller’s “King of The Road.” This is unfortunate since Miller was a top-notch talent with vocal chops equal or superior to any female singer performing today and does not deserve to be tagged as a novelty singer. Ho, Ho, Ho: Joey+Rory Add Holiday Spirit to “Cheater Cheater” Remix
Just in time for the holidays, Joey+Rory created a “Sleighbell Mix” of their song “Cheater Cheater” and posted it on MySpace. Unfortunately, they removed the hip hop inspired “King Mix” before I had a chance to listen to it, but based on forum response, I didn’t miss much.
The Austin Chronicle’s Doug Freeman says honky-tonk can’t [...]Continue reading "Ho, Ho, Ho: Joey+Rory Add Holiday Spirit to “Cheater Cheater” Remix"

Who the Country Music Hall of Fame Should Induct Next
For years the Country Music Hall of Fame was caught in the position where many deserving performers had died off before their turn for induction arrived. This was mostly due to the Hall’s practice of electing only one new member per year (and in at least one year, electing no one).
By the time the [...]Continue reading "Who the Country Music Hall of Fame Should Induct Next"
