Surprise Guest Garth Brooks Drops In On High School Graduation
- Linda from Still Is Still Moving had her blog mentioned by Willie Nelson on Bill Mack’s XM Satellite Radio show. She writes:
He gave the site address out several times: “It’s still is still moving.com. Like my song.” He said he’d never met me, but that one of his fans had made a website about him. (Willie, what you do you mean, we’ve never met? What about the waves, and the kisses, and the smiles, the hats you’ve thrown me, all the bandanas you’ve tossed to me, and I’m the one who handed you a joint at Carl’s Corner in July 04. Remember?)
Congrats Linda! Now you need to get an audio recording from the show to post on your site, kind of like a badge of honor.

- Some time last week Palo Duro Records posted a blog entry asking fans to be on the lookout for a guitar stolen from Brian Hofeldt of The Derailers. They announced, fortunately, that this story has a happy ending. “Wichita Falls Police have recovered the instrument after the thief attempted to sell the guitar to a pawn shop; drugs are the alleged motive for the robbery.”
- An indie film cost the mayor of Gallitin his job after he agreed to let filming take place in City Hall. It was a superhero movie with a villain who wants to change Nashville’s honky-tonk heroes into rappers. So why did the mayor lose his job? The superhero is Thong Girl and her super power is shooting lasers from her posterior orifice. Yes, she shoots lasers out of her butt. The news coverage of the movie received national attention, and the mayor ended up losing the next election.
- John Gerome from the Associated Press says that Dierks Bentley serves as an ambassador to country music. Later this month, the 31 year old Bentley will be “the only mainstream country star to perform alongside rockers like the Police and the White Stripes at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.”
- John Goodspeed has more info on the Randy Rogers For the Sake of the Song Festival that started yesterday with the Songwriter Workshop & Acoustic Song Swap, where guys like Bruce Robison and Gary Nicholson shared some of their music. Rogers hopes that each year the festival will continue to grow to the point where people from all over the country will want to come and be a part of it.
- Garth Brooks surprised high school student Kelsey Hoffman, who is battling cancer, when he went to see her graduate on Saturday. The two met in 2000 through the Make-a-Wish Foundation and have stayed in touch since.
“Then I walked around the corner and Garth was there, and it was really exciting,” she said. “I mean, I was like ecstatic. I think my heart dropped five floors when I saw he was in there. I started crying; it was pretty cool.”
- CMT reports that Gary Allan surrounded himself with his three favorite songwriters at his fan club party yesterday, they include: Jim Lauderdale, Harley Allen, and Odie Blackman. CMT also mentions that his new album is slated for a fall release. Jenna called me yesterday while standing in line for Allan’s autograph and sounded giddier than a pack of school girls.

That’s a great idea! I was so excited.
the http://www.willienelsonpri.com site has e-mailed me with new versions of his Peaceful Solution song. They said “Willie wants you to have this latest version of the song to post on your site.” And I thought it was generic post to folks who link to their site. But after yesterday I know he visited my site!
