  • There’s plenty of books about the marriage and life of June Carter and Johnny Cash, and we’ve seen the movie I Walk The Line, but now we’ll get a chance to read about The Man In Black from his first wife, Vivian, in I Walked The Line: My Life With Johnny.
  • On August 28, Jim Murphy will become the first resident of New Jersey to be inducted into America’s Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame in Anita, Iowa.

The hall of fame, founded in 1976, has about 1,600 members, including Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Jimmy Rodgers and Hank Williams.

  • A new album titled Forever Cool will pair up current artists with the voice of Dean Martin on some his classic tracks.

From the hills of Hollywood to the heartland, country also finds its place on Forever Cool. Shelby Lynne brings a light twang to “You’re Nobody ‘Til Somebody Loves You”, really playing up her interaction with Martin with a dash of Southern charm. The production values on this country-infused classic are top-notch.

Martina McBride will guest as well on “Baby It’s Cold Outside”.

  • Garth Brooks officially announced the release of his new box set, The Ultimate Hits. It will include 30 past hits, 4 new songs, and videos for 33 of the songs. The first single, “More Than A Memory”, is expected to hit radio on August 27.
  • Country AirCheck reports that, according to Alexa.com, a company which tracks internet traffic, Toby Keith’s website is the most popular among country artists, and is the 79,389th most popular site (overall) on the internet. Here’s the full list of the country top ten:
    1. 79,389 Toby Keith
    2. 80,158 Keith Urban

    4. 158,832 Miranda Lambert

    10. 323,628 Tim McGraw
  • Star running back for the New Orleans Saints, Reggie Bush, loves country music. Unfortunately for him, the Saints and Kenny Chesney had difficulty coming to financial terms and negotiations broke down. Whew, I was afraid he was going to make the team.
  • Willie’s short shorts causes girl’s clothes to fall off.
  • Deana Carter will release The Chain on October 9th with help from an all star line-up of outlaws and heartbreakers: Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, George Jones, Dolly Parton, John Anderson, Jessi Colter and Shooter Jennings.
  • As reported by the Houston Chronicle, Sam Baker is the first to admit his limitations as a vocalist and a guitarist, but as a writer he weaves complex tales on his new album, Pretty World.

“I’m not trying to capture whole lives in these songs,” Baker said over a recent lunch in Austin. “They’re moments. But you can cover so much, even in two or three minutes. Something can happen in a flash, and you have the basis for a story there.”

Author Tom Buckley briefly mentions that Baker was a victim of a terrorist attack on a train in Peru. The family across from him was killed and he barely survived the attack.

  • Judge saves master recordings by Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis from fate of being auctioned.
  • The September issue of Esquire magazine will focus on Merle Haggard for their “What I’ve Learned” feature.

“Willie Nelson’s the one who told me the reason it costs so much to get divorced is because it’s worth it.”

  • Entertainment Weekly has an online-only Q&A with Brad Paisley. He hopes that the art of making an album doesn’t die off and shares a line from “Ticks” that was way too campy for him to include on the final cut.
  • Joey Allcorn really loves him some Aunt Jemima pancakes.

I’m going to have to stop posting those nudie pictures on my site, or else I will have to rate my site as x-rated to keep the kids out!
