Spotlight: Steve Martin featuring Vince Gill and Dolly Parton – “Pretty Flowers”
From Actor/Comedian Steve Martin’s plucky new banjo album The Crow: New Songs For The Five String-Banjo comes the Vince Gill/Dolly Parton duet “Pretty Flowers,” the first in our new weekly series which will highlight songs recommended by The 9513’s editors and staff.
Effervescent and infectious, “Pretty Flowers” showcases truly delightful vocal performances by Gill and Parton, with Parton’s contribution being especially colorful; underlined by a series of sprightly vocal runs, Dolly sounds younger and more engaging than she has in years.
A beautiful duet by two of country music’s greatest singers, “Pretty Flowers” is a sweet love song with a light-hearted nature perfectly suited to the Valentine’s season.

[...] By now I’m sure you heard that Kris Allen won American Idol over Adam Lambert yesterday, and even sang a duet with Keith Urban on “Kiss A Girl.” I won’t make a habit of mentioning Idol here, but Steve Martin must have done something right, too. We had over 2,000 people hit the site searching specifically for “Pretty Flowers,” which we highlighted back in February. [...]

I must express to Steve Martin how DEAR this song Pretty Flowers is. It’s simple, honest, refreshing, clean, scrubbed, loving, and an absolutely WELCOMED song in the wake of all this ’so-called’ talent of today – the shrieking and screaming in the name of entertainment should be abolished. Pretty Flowers is PRECIOUS. Thank you for these sweet lyrics.
