Sonny James, George Strait, and Harold Bradley Make The Hall And Brad Paisley Pranked
- Sonny James, George Strait, and Harold Bradley were all inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last November, but the ceremony for their induction wasn’t held until this past Sunday night at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
- Heralded by Guitar Player as the most-recorded guitarist in the world, Bradley is the first musician to enter the Hall of Fame under the category of session player. He has played on such classics as “Crazy,” “Dang Me,” “For the Good Times” and “Stand by Your Man.”
- Known as the “Southern Gentlemen,” James, 78, had an as-yet-unbeaten string of 16 straight No. 1 country hits from 1967-1971. His calling card was the romantic ballad, none bigger than “Young Love,” a record that topped both the country and the pop charts in 1957.
- A sophisticated stylist who’s racked up more No. 1 hits than any singer in country music history, the night’s final honoree, neo-traditionalist Strait, was fêted by the legendary George Jones, one of the Texan’s biggest idols along with Bob Wills and Merle Haggard.
- Toby Keith on rock and roll and country music:
Rock and roll was like a religion, and it’s gone. Country has stayed the course, and country is America’s music now. We write the lyric that means something. We are America’s music.”
- Canyon Lake, TX will debut it’s newest music venue this coming Memorial Day with a concert from Cross Canadian Ragweed. The amphitheater holds 3,500 people and the owners also purchased Whitewater Sports (to provide tubing and water activities on the nearby river), added a beer garden, and cottages.
- AOL has a list of 21 Under 21 — Today’s Hottest Young Musical Talents. Representing country music are Taylor Swift at number thirteen and Kellie Pickler coming in at number four.
- The New York Times has another extremely well written piece on the Stagecoach music festival.
Between the big stage and the smaller ones it was possible to detect evidence of a continuing argument about the identity of country music. The small-stage acts generally went deep, emphasizing the genre’s history.
It would have been hard to choose which acts to see between the different stages. Judging from most of the articles, the majority of people just camped out in front of the main stage all day long.
- Adam Hood posted a video on MySpace of his performance of “22 Days Too Long” at Hill’s Cafe a few nights ago.
- These days it seems like every article about Brad Paisley includes a small tidbit about his penchant for pulling pranks, but rarely do you hear about him getting pranked himself. Taylor Swift shares one such instance with us on her MySpace blog.
I’ve been watching my back out here for the past couple of days. One of us is going to get pranked by Brad (“Us” being Jack Ingram, Kellie Pickler, and myself). Here’s why: We struck first. We’d had been planning it for a while, ever since I found these hilarious Tick costumes on the internet and ordered them. Then we made Jack this exterminator costume and got him a bug sprayer. Then, two nights ago, in the middle of his show– when Brad was playing his new song “Ticks”, Kellie and I ran out onstage in those ridiculous tick costumes ( we looked like Sumo wrestlers). We started dancing around Brad and running up and down the catwalks. Then Jack came out in his “Pest Control” costume and pretended to chase us around the stage, trying to spray us with fake insecticide. Then he eventually sprayed both of us and Kellie and I pretended to die onstage. I was laughing so hard I could barely breathe. Then I was laying there on the stage playing dead, and looked up at Brad, and he looked down at me and said “Nice work”. Yeah. I might as well have a target drawn on me.
Luckily YouTube has a video of the performance:

The idea that Kellie Pickler is ranked 9 places ABOVE Taylor Swift on that list is, as Will Ferrel said, “Mind Bottling.” Did they actually listen to both of those records?

Jim – I’m thinking that appearances might have played a big role in where they were placed, but I could be wrong.
Baron – I thought it was a pretty good job of Paisley to maintain his composure, I would have been crackin’ up.

Toby Keith, “Rock and roll was like a religion, and it’s gone. Country has stayed the course…”
More evidence that Keith needs to think harder before he speaks. Or maybe just think at all. I love Keith for what he is, but it just goes to show that everybody has their own dumb opinions and every single person in America is entitled to voice those dumb opinions. He still owes the DCs an apology.

The video was just hillarious. I don’t know how Brad was able to sit and play without busting out laughing. It will be interesting on how he gets back with a bigger joke. :)

I am extremely tired of stories about stars playing pranks on one another, but this is pretty good stuff.

I’m tired of stories about stars playing pranks on one another and never hearing what the prank is, or else when I do hear what it is it’s pretty lame.

so according to toby keith’s logic, there’s plenty of radio stations for classic country artists to get played? really? on what planet?
please. country music forgets its elders and greats MUCH quicker than rock does.
i think he needs to extricate his big fat foot and shut up a while.
