Songwriter Larry Jon Wilson Passed Away; Jimmy Buffet To Host Free Concert; Miranda’s “House” Holds Top Spot
- Songwriter Larry Jon Wilson passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 69 after suffering a stroke while visiting family. Wilson recorded four LPs in the ’70s before becoming disillusioned with the music business. After 29 years without a release though, he returned last year with an acoustic collection of songs simply titled Larry Jon Wilson. Several mp3s from his early records can be heard on his fan page. Also check out Stephen Deusner’s interview with Wilson here on The 9513 about last year’s release.

Congratulations Miranda! The success she’s finally getting is like a dream, I had never imagined she’d become such a hit, but I’m really glad it happened because she really deserves it.

I was completely happy and shocked that pop radio was playing me. ‘You Were Meant for Me’ was a country song, a simple shuffle, and I recorded it with a country band from Nashville. It’s surprising, too, because it was getting played next to the Spice Girls. It always (nagged) at me because I always listened to country music when I got in the car, and it always killed me not to hear my stuff on there when I thought it would be a real natural fit. ●
- – Jewel on her country leanings.
What Jewel forgets to mention is that she was also being played along side The Wallfowers, DAve Matthews, Joan Osbourne and Sheryl Crow. And that “You Were Meant for Me” had three different remixes.
She seriously thinks that none of us remember this stuff, doesn’t she?

And now next week LeAnn Rimes will marry Eddie Cibrian since she’s divorced. Not really a true statement that they’ll marry next week but that’s the way Hollywood goes: marry one day, divorce the next day, marry again.

What country band did Jewel record “You Were Meant For Me” with?
Unfortunate that Jewel is having a lot of trouble getting her songs on country radio. Stay Here Forever made Top 40 and Satisfied is struggling also.

Maybe if she were a country singer she would have better luck.
June 22, 2010 at 12:59 pm
If Jewel’s current single fails its their own fault… they should’ve known better than to release “Satisfied” at this time of year. They should’ve gone with “No Good in Goodbye” for this time of year.

I guess no daily updates anymore? It’s like a whole week of information in one day.
Good for Miranda! I’m glad she’s finally getting her due.

Viki,
I think it’s twice a week now; Tuesdays and Thursdays is the pattern I’ve noticed. I especially appreciate the Tuesdays, because I look forward to the extensive list of new releases.

I think on the “off” days for the news summaries they should have open “Country News You Care About” threads for us to post links to articles we think are relevant that day! Of course that could make it hard for The 9513 to find articles for their news thread days that haven’t already been mentioned. Oh well…
The radio success of “The House That Built Me” is proof that even AirHead Country radio listeners can appreciate good quality music if it is presented to them over the airwaves. I just wish such occurrences weren’t so rare these days in Top 40 land.
I always get a kick out of Trace Adkins when he goes off on politics! I’d love to see Trace have a political debate on current events with Timbo McGraw. Trace would literally mop the floor with the hapless Timmy.
There is just something “off” about Bob Lefsetz. Again he proves it by lumping Jamey Johnson and Jack Ingram into the same potato sack. What’s next, an article about the similarities of Hank III and Gloriana? Crikey!

I love the new video from James Otto SO much!!! (big smile)
God bless you and him always!!!

Rick, Lefetz wrote two separate articles: one about Jamey Johnson’s “Macon,” the other about Jack Ingram. That’s why there are two links. I agree that there’s something “off” about him lol, but that’s not it.

I’m confused on the Miranda Lambert quote. yes it’s the longest running number 1 hit this year, but Reba was just #1 for 4 weeks with Consider Me Gone (however it was split over 2009 and 2010), I know carrie stayed 5 weeks at #1, Tim McGraw has sent multiple songs to #1 for 5 weeks, and even a few songs for longer (Live Like You Were Dying, It’s Your Love). Faith Hill with Breathe for 6 weeks. Or how about Lonestar with Amazed for 8 weeks. So i’m confused, how it’s tied for the longest time at #1. Can someone clarify this for me? I assume it has something to do with the way Billboard has changed it’s chart names. Thanks.
June 22, 2010 at 5:41 pm
Greg I think it’s for the current year.
June 22, 2010 at 6:26 pm
Vicki is correct. The article says Miranda Lambert tied for the longest stay at #1 THIS YEAR. Lambert’s The House That Built Me is #1 for the fourth week. Other four weekers from this year are:
1. Consider Me Gone-Reba McEntire
2. Why Don’t We Just Dance-Josh Turner
If you are considering that Billboard 2010 started in December, 2009, those two songs are beaten by the five week stay of Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now.

The new Mark Chesnutt duet with Amber Digby is TOP NOTCH!!!!
