Just Call Him Señor George Strait; Miranda Lambert Shares Studio Footage
- You know that new George Strait record due out in August? Ken Tucker says it will blow your mind.
Recorded at Jimmy Buffett’s Shrimp Boat Studios in Key West, Fla., the album includes a song that Strait sings entirely in Spanish, “El Rey,” which is a Mexican standard and was a giant mariachi hit for Vincente Fernandez. (”El Rey” means “the king.”) “After he played the song for me, George said, ‘Can we do this?’” Brown remembers. “’Hell, yeah,’ I said. ‘You’re George Strait. Everybody’s wondering what we’re going to do anyway’.”

Tennessean tidbit:
Carrie Underwood, John Rich, Rodney Atkins and Jake Owen are among the stars who will play for free during the Army post’s Week of the Eagles. The homecoming event is held every other year for soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles” who have returned after overseas deployments.

In the minority again, but Owen Temple is pretty underwhelming. It’s pretty hard to take the life out of an Adam Carroll song and Temple manages to do it, a couple of times.

LA’s major FM country radio station could appeal to a whole new demographic here by playing George Strait’s version of “El Rey”! Considering over 50% of the residents within the actual City of LA speak Spanish as their primary tongue, it could be a big hit! (lol)
I prefer artists who write their own songs by a wide margin as they are more likely to have a “unique” sound/style. I will make exceptions for interesting singers who pick quality songs, like Shannon Mock for example, and especially if they are attractive females. I admit to being very shallow in that regard…
I don’t normally pay much mind to Chet Fippo’s comments about music artists, but the stuff he says about the father and son team The Parks has me interested! Now I wonder what Chet personally means by “honky tonk” him being an ex-Rolling Stone staffer and all? Hmm….
That new bar in Texas should go all out and proclaim itself to be the “Texas Ultimate Red Dirt” Bar! Who wouldn’t want to listen to music and have a drink at the “TURD Bar”! (lol – I’ll never get tired of using that acronym!)

Miranda’s song reminded me of Leeann Womack’s “Solitary Thinking”.
I loved “Farce the Music this week-especially the Oak Ridge Boys and Taylor Swifts.

George Strait’s “Twang” CD is terrific.
The songwriting is top-notch especially when he works with Dean Dillon.
