Opty Alert! Tonight’s show will feature Sam Bush, The Del McCoury Band, Mel Tillis, and T.G. Sheppard. The Saturday Night Opry will feature Daily & Vincent, Joey+Rory, the Del McCoury Band, and “Baby face” Blaine Larsen (remember him?).
Opry Schedule: http://www.opry.com/shows/ThisWeek.html
There are a lot of great country artists who have wound up in the Americana realm by default these days, but they sure don’t seem to win many AMA awards. They tend to honor more of the roots rock based stuff I don’t much care for. Hayes Carll was a nice exception though, and Rosanne’s tribute album really shouldn’t have counted. Oh well…
That new Wanda Jackson covers album sounds interesting, but alas the Jack White Factor is present so red flags are waving. I do want to hear the song that includes Ashley Monroe though. “Rum And Coca Cola” was a WWII wartime hit for The Andrews Sisters who were singing about working for the Yankee dollar down in Trinidad mon.
I’ll be sure to listen to Sam Bush on the NPR program but I doubt his take on “Eight More Miles To Louisville” will be in the same league as Grandpa Jones’ version.
