Rascal Flatts’ Joe Don Rooney & Tiffany Fallon Have a Son
- Tiffany Fallon, wife of Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney, gave birth to Jagger Donovan Rooney on Saturday.
- A humbled Chris Cagle released a statement addressing his recent arrest:
I do want it to be known, however, that this argument was not elevated nor induced because of my being intoxicated. I’ve worked too hard and come this far. And to prove this, I asked to take a sobriety test and a Breathalyzer test and was denied the opportunity by the police officer on site.
So today I come before you as a human being, not a country artist, who at the end of the day, makes mistakes, just like anybody else. But at the end of this day, I’ll be able to look in the mirror happy, knowing that I was accountable.
- Hard-core Troubadours’ Mimi wrote about an ex-lover, only the ex-lover is the Whiskeytown incarnation of Ryan Adams and her relationship with him was through Strangers Almanac. Find out, after all this time, whether she thinks you should buy the double-disc re-release of that album.
- Ashton Shepherd says she just shot the video for “Sounds So Good,” and wants you to check in on her CMA Music Fest live blog.
- Desmond Child and Victoria Shaw were announced as the judges for GAC’s talent search show “The Next GAC Star.”
- If you have a little time to waste, head over to the Jamey Johnson coloring book page and if you’re so inclined, print out a blank copy, color it with good ole’ fashioned crayons or markers, take a picture with it and post it to his MySpace blog.
- Peter Cooper gives a rundown of the “can’t-miss” events during the CMA Music Festival, starting today (or night) with Marty Stuart’s Late Night Jam, which he says has “show-of-the-year” potential.
- Sugarland plans to release a deluxe version of their new album with five extra songs on July 22nd, one week before the regular version hits the shelves. Country Standard Time has a track list.
- Kelly over at The Gobblers Knob says that with Let’s All Go To Bed, The Mother Truckers have crafted an album that forced him to sit down, shut up and appreciate the entire work for what it truly is–a solid, rollicking, Rockin’-Country effort.
- Dana Jennings, author of Sing Me Back Home: Love, Death, and Country Music (read Brady’s review), shares a playlist of songs and with the exception of one song, they all hail from between 1950 and 1970.
- Listen to full versions of “Shores of White Sand,” “Hold On” and “Sailing Round the Room” from Emmylou Harris‘ upcoming All I Intended To Be album.

Somehow I think Joe Don Rooney’s kid would have preferred “Donovan Jagger” instead as he could at least go by the nickname “Don”. Its telling that Joe Don would pick a famous rock star’s last name rather than a country one like “Cash”….
Chrias Cagle’s recent behavior would actually seem more understandable if he had been drunk……
Ashton Shepherd wrote her CMT blog as if she was writing to close friends and family members. That gal is what country music is all about in my book…
As for the Fan Fair recommended evets list I just would have added The Wrights and Sunny Sweeney performing together at the Opry Plaza before and between Opry shows on Saturday night, and its free!

1. Joe Don is a clown for naming his kid that.
2. Can’t wait for Ashton’s new video.
3. Rick: Totally agree about Chris Cagle. Now he really has no excuse for acting so ridiculously.

Also, I know it may be unfair to judge an album by just the track listing, but Sugarland’s next release looks exceptionally unstimulating.

Very curious (and more than a little frightened) to seea track called “Steve Earle” by Sugarland.
June 4, 2008 at 10:54 am Permalink
May we all hope that kids gets his parents looks and the brains of some far, far distant, recessive genes relative.
Ah yes, Ryan Adams. Isn’t he all of our imaginary, kind of an asshole, really bad relationship, boyfriend. He’s actually supposed to be off the crack though–not that seems to make him any less of an asshole. Why does he have to be so freaking hot and talented. (See also, Russell Crowe).

Mike: I do not think that Jennifer Nettles wants to open up a Steve Earle can of worms.

Please tell me you guys are going to review “All I Intended to Be.” I’m about 4 tracks into it on CMT.com’s listening party and I love it.

I wonder if Sugarland will be using the great name of Earle n the same way that Aldean and McGraw have muddied the names of Cash and Kristofferson. The give the artist name as the title and then barely use it in the song….
June 4, 2008 at 11:58 am Permalink
Kelly: Don’t get me started of Tim McGraw’s Kristofferson. Everytime I hear him say he’s going to get drunk and write a song like Kris did, I actually mutter outloud “Except that Kris doesn’t suck.” So its probably good I don’t hear that song too often else people would think I am crazy.
The big problem for Sugarland is going to be that Steve isn’t dead and can actually respond.
June 4, 2008 at 11:59 am Permalink
Kris isn’t dead, but he is too nice to respond.
Has anyone ever seen him in concert, adorably sneaking looks behind him so he can try to figure out who everyone is clapping for?

It seems to be the trend these days to use the name of a legend as a song title, to get more attention than said song actually merits. Example: “Johnny & June” by Heidi Newfield, a song that has nothing to do with the Cashes, except Newfield drops their names into it, as an obvious ploy to get more headlines and airplay than she would otherwise get.

For a better Johnny/June tribute, check out Emmylou’s “How She Could Sing the Wildwood Flower” from her new album. It doesn’t have to name anyone to get its point across.
I’m glad Dave suggested that CMT’s site offers the whole album. The three songs on the Nonesuch page are three of the weaker ones on the album, at least for me.
But, man, “Broken Man’s Lament” (a great almost-forgotten Mark Germino tune), “Not Enough” and “All That You Have Is Your Soul” are prime Emmylou. She does better with Hag’s “Kern River” than with Billy Joe’s “Old Five and Dimers Like Me,” but I’m glad to hear her sing ‘em both. It’s nice see her title the album after a great Shaver line.

Shelby Lynne’s “Johnny Met June” is also pretty sweet and touching.
June 4, 2008 at 2:26 pm Permalink
Seriously, what is up with Jamey Johnson’s marketing people? A coloring book page? Are they trying to target Taylor Swift’s fan base? Who exactly is country music made for; kids or adults?
Thanks for the link to the Emmylou preview, Dave. I forget to check CMT sometimes. I gotta agree with you on the titles of Sugarland’s songs as well.
Kelly, Aldean has even said that Cash wasn’t really a big influence on him. Doesn’t that kinda remove any doubt as to why he recorded the song?
Razor X, I detest the name checking as much as anybody, but I think Heidi Newfield’s “Johnny and June” at least tried. It may have failed, but she tried to make them a relevant part of the song and not simply capitalize on their names.

so chris cagle WASN’T drunk when he had an altercation with his girlfriend. that’s MUUUUUUUUCH better than being drunk when you did it. whatever explanation he had (to blame on outside influences) is now gone. just brilliant. maybe he’ll also be his own lawyer in court. that’ll be helpful, too.
does he actually think about these stupid things before he does them?

Good, I’m glad that Sugarland will make their version of “Life in a Northern Town” available, I love their version of the song so much. I was worried I would never have a recording of it, but now it looks like I’ll just have to get the deluxe edition of their album. Of course, I would have gotten the deluxe version if the song wasn’t on it.

Dave said, “Please tell me you guys are going to review “All I Intended to Be.” I’m about 4 tracks into it on CMT.com’s listening party and I love it.”
Thanks for the heads up, Dave. I’ve been deliberating about whether or not to buy this CD. I love Emmylou but I haven’t been too crazy about her last few albums. I got excited when I heard that she’d reunited with Brian Ahern for this project. I’m listening to it right now and I’m really enjoying. I like it a lot better than anything she’s done since “Cowgirl’s Prayer”. I definitely will be getting this one.

“Very Last Country Song”? Is that a play off of Blake Shelton’s “The Last Country Song”?

I wonder if Kristian will sing the song Joey in response to the song Genevieve? Hmm…nah, that would ruin the image of them being a solo act parading as a duo. If Jennifer did not have an accent, this would not classify as country. They’re dying to be the country Bon Jovi.
June 4, 2008 at 8:18 pm Permalink
Lynn, Jason Boland and Tom T. Hall also have songs called “Last Country Song,” and I’m sure there’s probably a few more, too. I’m wondering how Sugarland’s is going to turn out.

I found a video of one more sugarland song:

It sounds like a good song, but there are enough words that I can’t understand that I can’t really tell exactly what the song is about from the video.

Lynn,
Kristian already sang lead (for a verse) on a track the last album.

Nickajack Cave is a killer song – it was my favourite track on TOUGH ALL OVER for the first few months I had it before He Can’t Quit Her began to grow on me more and overtake it. I still play it to death though…
