Awesome job, y’all. I really dig it.
October 30, 2008 at 12:46 pm
Very nicely done, guys, and I love that you’re introducing new and lesser-known artists to a wider audience. The Reckless Kelly interview and mini-concert was especially well-done.
And it should be noted that Kelly’s voice is like sipping sweet tea on the front porch while listening to Dale Watson on the radio. Now THAT’s country.
October 30, 2008 at 12:50 pm
Man, I LOVE Sweet Tea, Thanks Sam!
One thing that you will continue to hear on the upcoming podcasts will be a nice mixture of artists.
It’s crazy how much good stuff is out there that few people know about, just waiting for a dork like me to shove a mic in their face!

This is super cool, Kelly. Nice work.

I really enjoyed the Reckless Kelly interview and acoustic performance. I’ve been a fan of RK since “Millican” in 1998. Great job.
October 30, 2008 at 1:05 pm
You’ve got me beat, Amazace. I caught on in 2000. Milican is a classic, and it is what got me hooked on RK. I was really pumped when they let me pick a song, so I answered, “Anything off Milican”.
October 30, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I love all their albums, but just accidently stumbled on to Millican in 98. Glad I did. Great interview too. My next goal…see them live.

Reckless Kelly is one of my favorite bands, so I really enjoyed this podcast. But the interview with Jeremy McComb was great too. I’m looking forward to podcast #2!

I enjoyed listening to this. If I had a small (hopefully constructive) criticism, it’s that the sound levels were quite low, even on maximum volume, during the spoken parts. I was straining to hear at times.
I never realised 9513 was ninety-five thirteen. I’ve been thinking of it as nine five one three.
October 30, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Rock and roll. Sounds great!
October 30, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Occasional Hope, constructive criticism is certainly welcome and we’ll definitely keep the volume issue in mind for the next episode.
We’ll most likely be featuring interviews, artist introductions, and more of the acoustic performances. If y’all have any recommendations, feel free to leave a comment or shoot us an email.
Like Kelly said in the podcast, I tagged along for the Reckless Kelly interview and hearing them perform acoustically three feet away was sweet. I think Willy and Cody need to do an acoustic tour by themselves.
October 30, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Great start, y’all. Get those sound levels sorted out and you’re golden.
Need a Nashville correspondent?
October 30, 2008 at 4:23 pm
You guys should get the Ginn Sisters. They can knock you on your ass with no band necessary.
October 30, 2008 at 4:23 pm
… who are Austin-based, I meant to add.
October 30, 2008 at 4:34 pm
Agree with the Ginn Sisters(hard “G”). If she’s still in town (Austin), get a hold of Danielle Talamini too. Oh…and Carrie Rodriguez!
October 30, 2008 at 5:23 pm
I’d gladly offer my Nashville services as well, though I admit I haven’t got the experience or overall countriness of Chris. Just sayin’; it’s a darn cool feature.
October 30, 2008 at 5:55 pm
I love the good vibes, thanks!
Chris and Dan, if you guys are serious about helping from Music City, I already have some ideas (Chris, maybe we can interview Tim & Faith at their fan-club office over by CW) :-)
I also agree on the sound levels. We’ll get it worked out. Also, I’ll try not to giggle like a school girl so much in future interviews.
October 30, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Face to face interviews are tough, and you all did a fine job of getting through your portion without stumbling over words. I’ve been a journalist for 10 years, and I still cringe when I hear my voice on a digital recorder.
You might want to begin your interviews with bands by saying who is there; I wasn’t sure if it was the full band or just Willy Braun until after the first RK song.
October 30, 2008 at 8:10 pm
Good point — everyone should introduce themselves at the top.
October 30, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Yeah, the first couple of cuts for the intro, I actually mentioned “Willy and Cody” specifically, but I had to do, oh, about a gazillion takes before I got through one without stumbling or something…good tips, hopefully y’all will hear improvements with each new offering…

I didn’t see a direct link to the RSS feed, so for those using iTunes or other app to grab your podcasts automatically, use the following:
http://www.the9513.com/feed/podcast/
Just add this as a podcast in your preferred app and you’ll get them automatically. (Pulled from Firefox’s address bar’s RSS link)

Sorry about that Marc. We had to publish the first podcast to get our feed set up through Feedburner and iTunes. We did place a link on the Subscribe page and are waiting for iTunes to approve it for it to appear in their directory. We also have plans to add it below the player and make a few other usability improvements.

Love that David Serby song. ;)

Cool podcast, one thing the country genre ignores a lot of the time is technology. I don’t think there are any podcasts out there for country that are of quality and not just a few taylor swift tracks thrown together.
