New Texas Tornados Album Will Include Freddy Fender
- Shawn Sahm led the surviving members of the Texas Tornados, Augie Meyers and Flaco Jiminez, in a six-song romp at Antone’s last night that was part of a two-hour tribute show to his father, the late Doug Sahm.
In addition to a documentary that’s being made about his father, Shaw Sahm also told the crowd that he, Meyers and Jimenez have recorded a new Tornados album – the group’s first studio set since 1996’s “4 Aces,” which will included some tracks with Freddy Fender recorded before his death in 2006.

- On March 26, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation will present Toby Keith with the Johnny “Mike” Spann Memorial Semper Fidelis Award for his loyalty and support to the troops.

- Music Row published a picture of John Rich with Mickey Rourke and Kris Kristofferson, who helped film the video for “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” this week, which Jon eluded to in the comments a couple of days ago.
- Pat Green returned to RodeoHouston for his eighth year on Thursday and despite diving headlong into “the slicker, more generic territory of radio heartthrobs” for his album material, The Houston Chronicle’s Joey Guerra says “his raucous, freewheeling energy isn’t edited or muzzled” onstage.
- Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley and John Rich are the latest artists to join the CMA Music Festival lineup.
- In an interview with Bob Ruggiero, Mickey Raphael says that Willie Nelson never officially hired him as his harmonica player, but never asked him to leave either. Thirty-five years later he still plays with Willie and he’s doing interviews about the new Naked Willie album. (via Still Is Still Moving)

The Jewel video from Jimmy Kimmel’s show is hilarious. I’m not so sure about dumping soup into a mailbox though if that was for real. Yecchh!
Trailer’s revised album titles are equally amusing. I’d have to say the Chuck Wick’s and Willie Nelson alterations are my favorites.
I might actually watch the new John Rich “Detroit” video if Mickey Rourke was praticing some of his more extreme “Wrestler” moves on John, with Kris as the referee of course.
