New Reckless Kelly Album Slated For June 24
- The band Reckless Kelly plans to release their new album, Bulletproof, on June 24 on Yep Roc Records.
Band frontman Willy Braun co-wrote one of the new songs, “God Forsaken Town,” with Robert Earl Keen, based on a person holding out from evacuating during Hurricane Katrina. Another song, “American Blood,” criticizes the war in Iraq because of the loss of American troops.
- For The Record’s Mike Severson posted a YouTube video from the Nashville Film Festival red carpet featuring Emerson Drive, Jessi Alexander and Carter’s Chord.
- In the May issue of InStyle Carrie Underwood says she’s been cheated on a time or two, sadly no culprits are named, and admits that she struggles with her body image.
- Shawn Underwood recapped the highlights of the Old Settler’s Music Festival on Twangville. Marty Stuart was crowned as having the “Best Spoken Word Performance,” Underwood says “Marty’s description of life as a country musician and the emotional tribute to his friend and neighbor, Johnny Cash, turned a good musical performance into a more holistic experience.”
- YouTube video of Brad Paisley’s emotional speech from the Arista “10″ party celebrating his achievements.
- A number of country artist have banded together for Never Forget, an album that pays tribute to the memories of those who died during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. George Jones, Tanya Tucker, Pam Tillis and Tracy Lawrence are just a few of the names associated with the project.
- Concerts in Anaheim and Long Beach have been scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday to honor Chris Gaffney.
- Chet Flippo digs Hayes Carll.
He’s got a solid body of work in the can, going back to 2002’s Flowers & Liquor and 2005’s Little Rock. And I continue to find wonderful little seemingly throw-away lines such as “You be the sinner, honey/I’ll be the sin” from “Drunken Poet’s Dream” on the new album. He’s one of the best songwriters working in any genre today.
- KUT has an hour of Joe Ely & Joel Guzman live in the famed Studio 6A of Austin City Limits. The show–hosted by John Aielli–intersperses Ely’s stories with songs like “All Just To Get To You,” “Where Is My Love” and Billy Joe Shaver’s “Live Forever.” You can read The 9513 review of Joe Ely & Joel Guzman’s album here.
- This year’s Country Thunder in Florence, Arizona saw nearly 200 people arrested for drinking related incidents. Yikes.
- Galleywinter member tonygates32 posted a link to a 45 minute interview that Dallas radio personality George Dunham conducted with Randy Rogers. Good stuff.

John Rich - “Another You” For a guy who is supposed to be a genius songwriter, John Rich sure does seem to be running out of ideas. 
George Ducas - “Walk Through This World” Ducas banks on the success of recent artists’ pleasantly bland lyrics and agreeable instrumentation for his first release with WhiteStar Nashville.
Forgotten Artists: Cal Smith - When the Florida Sunshine Opry (Eustis, FL) booked its first “name” (non-local) act back in 1999, the act they chose was Cal Smith. I cant wait for the Reckless Kelly disc! They continue to put out quality, if not stellar albums that have only gotten better with each release. Especially in this day and age of wannabe red dirt acts that never aspire to be anything more than Eli Young clones, it is awesome to have these guys representing us as they tour the country…

Mike, I think they can do both. I actually had the opposite response (glad that they are shooting for something different from a subject standpoint), but i agree that they need to keep the rockin’ party vibe intact. If it were up to me, they would put a new version of “castanets” or “sixgun” on each cd!

I hope so… I don’t mind a message in the music but it needs to stay entertaining. I thought Wiggles and Ritalin did a good job of that.

I saw Reckless Kelly in concert last week, and they played a few of their new songs. They got a pretty favorable response, and they sounded good, so I’m definitely excited about the new disc.
By the way, I knew the guys were good musicians, but I never really realized how phenomenal David Abeyta is on the guitar until seeing him live. He was a show all by himself. They’re definitely worth seeing in concert.

I bet the guys who cheated on Carrie Underwood just got bored with her conversational skills and were looking for a quick exit from the relationship….
As for drunken arrests at “Country Thunder”, what would you expect now that so much of what is now mainstream country was correctly labeled “southern rock” back in the 1970’s? Isn’t it nice Montgomery Gentry have promised their fans a rowdier album next go round….
