New Jessica Simspon Album to Feature Dolly Parton
- Rumor has it that Jessica Simpson is in talks with Dolly Parton about doing a duet on her new album. (via ggcolumn)
- In an exclusive interview with Country Hound, Dierks Bentley claims his band is the best at Halo 3, beating both Miranda Lambert’s and the Cross Canadian Ragweed bands. And, in another Q&A with Peter Cooper he talks about being inspired by Terry Eldredge, now the lead singer of The Grascals.
Terry Eldredge, who is now the lead singer of (bluegrass band) The Grascals, was the guy I looked up to. He was wild as you can be. He’d pour his heart out onstage, singing George Jones songs, then he’d go home and listen to Jones’ records until he passed out. I wanted to be Terry. I was so inspired by him.

- Faith Hill had to back out of a show last week honoring Aretha Franklin as the 2008 MusiCares Person of the Year due to a bronchial infection.
- We first reported on Kathy Mattea’s new album, COAL, back in 2006 and it looks like the project will finally see the light, barring any April Fool’s jokes, on April 1.
“COAL” includes songs by Jean Ritchie, Billy Edd Wheeler, Hazel Dickens, Utah Phillips, Merle Travis and Darrell Scott. The studio team includes names that are no strangers to the bluegrass crowd, beginning with Mattea’s hand-picked producer, Marty Stuart. He also plays guitar, mandolin and mandola on the tracks and joins Patty Loveless for background vocals on one song.

Forgotten Artists: Cal Smith - When the Florida Sunshine Opry (Eustis, FL) booked its first “name” (non-local) act back in 1999, the act they chose was Cal Smith. In the Old Testament its taught that things which are “unclean” defile that which is “clean” when they come into contact. Dolly Parton might want to keep that in mind before working with Jessica Rabbitt, err I mean Simpson…..
Thanks for the link to Carrie’s Grammy show performance. I viewed it with the sound turned off and quite enjoyed it that way. Her look is classic late 60’s Nancy Sinatra singing “These Boots Are Made For Walking”, a song I’d much rather hear Carrie sing that “Before He Cheats” for the thousandth time…..

I figured Jessica Simpson reaching out to Dolly is a means to boost her credibility among country fans, but it seems to me it’ll take a lot more than that.

I think Dolly ought to sing a duet with Jessica entitled “This Town Ain’t Big Enough for the Both of Us.” ;)

Vince’s comment was the best part of the show.
I agree. Elizabeth Cook is wonderful. Ten years ago, I never would see myself listening to country. Elizabeth, along with some other artists, have taught me a lot about the heart of country music. I can’t see myself not listening to them now.
