Musician’s Hall Announces Inductees; Radio & Records Closes Doors
- After 36 years of publication, Radio & Records is calling it quits.
The current state of affairs has left The Nielsen Company with no other alternative but to immediately cease all services, products and events related to Radio & Records. The magazine’s final edition is the June 5 issue. Electronic products end today, the Web site will be taken offline soon.
- Chet Atkins and Charlie Daniels are among the 2009 honorees picked for the Musician’s Hall of Fame.
- Performing Songwriter will cease to be published after the June issue as well. Commenting on the closing, publisher/founder Lydia Hutchinson said, “There was a moment of clarity after we signed off on this June issue, telling me that now is indeed the time to let go and end at its peak.”
- Wounded Bird Records acquired the rights to six out of print Kris Kristofferson records from the ’70s and is making them available again.
- Assjack, the less-country side of Hank III’s persona, is releasing an album on August 4 — through Curb Records.
- A free performance and party celebrating Alan Jackson’s 20th anniversary since signing a recording deal with Arista Nashville is scheduled for next Wednesday at Nashville’s Cadillac Ranch.
- My Kind of Country’s J.R. Journey ranked Trisha Yearwood’s ten-album discography for Country California. From the comments so far, no one agrees on a top album.
- In his latest blog post, Robbie Fulks introduced a new album of war songs from which the proceeds go to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Fulks himself recorded the Harlan Howard song “Keep Those Cards and Letters Coming In” for the project.
- Download a copy of “Down to the Wire” from Son Volt’s new album American Central Dust, which is due out on July 7.

- The Saguaro Road Records blog has a promo video of Tanya Tucker talking about her new album and performing several of the songs in studio.
- The server who asked John Rich to surrender his beer the other night at Cafe Coco described Rich as “just pompous and arrogant and completely out of line, like nobody else’s rules pertain to him.” However, Clayton Quisenberry, the musician who’s guitar Rich was playing at the time, has a different take:
He is actually a really cool guy. And he wasent irate at the server because he couldnt drink his beer, it was because he kept getting interupted by people while we were singing. The server that it happened to had just interupted us singing together and was throwing in words to the song that werent part of the song itself. John was agrivated about that.

Darn, the R&R weekly country singles chart was my favorite way to keep track of the few singles I liked at any given time. Oh well…
I really like the new Megan Mullins video, and the song’s not half bad either! (lol) It would have been nice if she could have taken the Lamborghini for a drive down PCH.
Does anyone really doubt that John Rich is an arrogant a**hole? I think his buddy’s last name should be “Quisling” for defending the indefensible.
I wish Hank III would issue his country albums under that name and Assjack albums for this punk persona and not mix them together. Combining the two is like the musical equivalent of mixing neo-nazis with the Obama administration…
WSM Alert! Tonight Eddie Stubbs will have Marty Stuart as a guest co-host and Marty will be picking the tunes he wants to spin. Marty will also be promoting his annual “Late Night Jam” a week from Thursday during Fan Fair which includes acts from the Cherryholmes family to Canada’s Corb Lund and his Hurtin’ Albertans. I wish WSM would broadcast that show live!!!!!

“Bluegrass Underground” this coming Saturday will feature both Cherryholmes and Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper in the subterranean cavern in McMinnville, TN and tickets are only $ 15! It starts at 2 PM Nashville time. Is this broadcast live on WSM? WSM’s new website is so lacking in useful information these days I can’t tell. I wish they archive all the shows for later listening.

More specifically, the Billboard country chart WAS the Radio & Records country chart, and vice versa. Almost all charts in other genres were the exact same as well.
