Miranda Lambert’s New Album Is Slated For September
- Miranda Lambert told Billboard’s Gary Graff that she’s worked on about four songs for her new album, which is scheduled for a September release. She’s mixing some of her own songs and including submissions from other writers.
“What’s fun is the more success you have, the better the songs are that you’re pitched,” she notes. “The first record people pitch you songs, and sometimes they’re like the ones that Tim (McGraw) threw away and that kind of thing. But this time around it seems like I’m getting a lot of great songs up front.”
- TMZ is reporting that Toby Keith jumped off stage Saturday night to confront a fan after the rowdy concert-goer flipped him “the bird” and then threw a beer at the stage.

- Juli Thanki on the new Greatest Hits album from Glen Campbell:
But Campbell is more than just his most popular work; Greatest Hits also includes lesser-known songs from the Campbell oeuvre [...] but repeated listening reveal that most sound incredibly similar: soft strings, perfect tenor, nothing that particularly grabs you, but nothing that makes you want to turn off the record. The songs are not bad, but they certainly don’t point to the sense of variety and willingness to experiment that Campbell showed in his 2008 comeback.
- The Gobblers Knob says no words are needed to accompany videos of the Drive-By Truckers performing “Righteous Path” and Ryan Bingham singing “Hard Times” on a recent episode of Austin City Limits. Consider yourself served.
- The 20th Anniversary of The Heart of Texas Country Music Association celebration is scheduled over two weekends in March and will feature performances from several traditional singers, including Amber Digby, Moe Bandy, Ferlin Husky and Gene Watson.
- Blake Shelton told the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville that he and Miranda Lambert recently looked into purchasing a building on Main Street in Tishomingo, Oklahoma — a place to hang out, or grab a beer, when they’re in town.
It certainly won’t be like Toby Keith’s Bar & Grille.
“I think they actually generate money, and they’re successful,” Blake observed. “This one would be more just where we go whenever we’re in town and wanna go have a beer and we don’t have to get in trouble.”
Their place also won’t be like John Rich’s private Nashville club, The Spot.
“This,” Blake laughed, “would be fun!”
- Beginning Saturday, WSM will move their Bluegrass Underground series to the 5-6 p.m. CST time slot as a lead-in to the Opry show. The SteelDrivers will be the first act to be broadcast at the new time. (via press release)
- Both Jamey Johnson and Gretchen Peters are offering anti-Valentine’s Day e-cards featuring one of their songs. Johnson’s card includes “Mowin’ Down the Roses” while Peters’ features the song “If I Had a Gun” from her newest album One To the Heart, One To the Head. If you’re happily in love, Peters also offers a card with her song “The Way You Move Me.”
- Ben Kweller hooked Twangville’s Jeff McMahon with his new album, Changing Horses:
Surprisingly, the strongest tracks here push Kweller the deepest into the country swing [...] The pedal steel flurries don’t break your heart but instead add a sonic layer that feels very natural. Kitt Kitterman adds beautiful steel lines particularly to the instantly catchy “Wantin’ Her Again.” This song sounds like an AM radio hit with pedal that could have been on a Hank Williams record.
- A couple of years ago, during a particularly overdone round of “country pride” songs on the Nashville charts, the writer behind Farce the Music wrote a satirical lyric titled “Countrier Than Thou.” Funny and still relevant.
- The songs “Ellis County” and “Gasoline And Matches” were added to Buddy Miller’s MySpace. Both will be included on the new album Written In Chalk, due out on March 3. If you really like “Ellis County,” New West Records has it available as a free download.

Between Tim, Faith, Toby, John Rich, and Chris Cagle… what is it with stars and confrontation with their fans? I don’t know who needs to behave better, stars or fans? It’s such a common occurrence now and I think stars are doing it more since seeing all the attention it can get them. It’s so stupid.

I hope Miranda isn’t vying for the Songs McGraw doesn’t throw away. I like McGraw, but the stuff he sings isn’t what I want to hear from her.:)

“Countrier Than Thou” is also a song on Robbie Fulks’ “Georgia Hard” album. I’m not sure which version has the better lyrics? Hmmm……
The “Heart of Texas” concerts sound like a blast. It’s too bad they are being held in the heart of Texas and not somewhere I could drive to. Darn.
The WSM “Bluegrass Underground” series sounds interesting, but it is going to conflict with the second hour of A Prairie Home Companion. Not good.

Also released this week is “Ruins Of Berlin” from the Dex Romweber Duo (Bloodshot Records). Dex was 1/2 of Flat Duo Jets, a guitar/drums rockabilly-blues duo that helped pave the way for bands like the White Stripes. Dex is one of the great unknown guitar gods.
