- Miranda Lambert feels Revolution is the album that will take her to the next level.

- The Texas Music Matters song of the day is “Midnight Run” from James Hand‘s new album Shadow On The Ground.
- Kyle B. Woodring, a former drummer for John Mellencamp and Deana Carter, was found dead in his house last week from an apparent suicide. He also backed Robbie Fulks, who humanizes Woodring in his latest blog post.
- The latest Hot Club of Cowtown album, Wishful Thinking, may not be the best introduction to the band, however, despite its missteps, Hickory Wind’s Larry Karnowski claims it as a worthy addition to his collection.
- Corey duBrowa on the new Tom Russell record:
His voice is raw and ragged but ultimately right, running the gamut from Tom Waits-like barroom bawling (the diary entry recalling the first time he heard Nina Simone) to songs reminiscent of Cash’s most anguished moments (the haunting and evocative Native American essay “Crosses of San Carlos,”) and even the occasional Gram/Emmylou throwback (“Santa Ana Wind,” inspired by Joan Didion’s essay “Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream,” finds Russell paired with Gretchen Peters to terrific effect).
- My Kind of Country’s Occasional Hope reviewed the excellent new album from Jason Eady, When the Money’s All Gone, and concludes that it’s a record the requires your attention to fully enjoy.
- Dailey & Vincent will release their first gospel album, a collection of a capella songs titled Singing From the Heart, on Oct. 20.
- Luke Bryan is scheduled to launch his first headlining tour in late October.
- The latest crop of Country Weekly album reviews were posted online for new records from Reba McEntire, Jack Ingram, Justin Moore, and Mac McAnally.
- Still Is Still Moving has a vinyl copy of Willie Nelson‘s American Classic to give away.
- Hank Williams III is scheduled to perform at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Oct. 10. The program is being presented in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy. (via press release)

Hickory Wind’s review of The Hot Club of Cowtown’s “Wishful Thinking” is spot on. It is not the best album choice for being introduced to their music. Speaking of the Hot Club, the folks at Country Standard Time have posted a nice new interview with Elana and Whit:

Rick – I don’t know if Hank III promised anything, but the press release reads, in bold type: “Please note that this program may contain mature content.” I don’t imagine that happens too often for CMHoF related material.

I can’t agree more about the Claire Lynch album. After hearing it a few weeks ago, I had to download everything I could find of hers. Then we were able to see her twice at our American Folk Festival here in Bangor at the end of August. We enjoyed the show almost as much as our experience with the Punch Brothers. Wonderful stuff.

Cowboy Troy is no longer on Warner. NOt sure what his deal is exactly, but he was off of there sometime in the past year.

Can’t wait to hear the new John Arthur Martinez album. And yes, I’m also excited for the Aaron Watson live album. I’ve always heard he puts on a great show, but unfortunately he doesn’t come anywhere near me.

Not to further beat a dead horse, but it’s heartbreaking to hear how much better the new songs on Miranda’s ‘Soundcheck’ performance sound than they do on the record.
