Miley Cyrus is Afraid of Country Music; Taylor Swift Celebrates 4 #1s; Loveless, Whitley To Join KY Music Hall of Fame

  • Miley Cyrus on country music:

“It scares me[...] It feels contrived on so many levels. Unless you’re wearing a cowboy hat and cowboy boots and singing and whining about your girlfriend or boyfriend leaving you it’s not going to sell. I think that’s why my dad finally got out of it. You have to wear those cowboy boots and be sweet as pie. It makes me nervous, the politics of it all.”

  • Gary Allan’s Get Off On The Pain hit the Album Charts with strong sales of 65,000–enough to land him at #2 Country/#5 Hot 200. Lady Antebellum dipped to #3 overall (#1 Country) with 105,000 (a 17% week-to-week drop).
  • Trisha Yearwood talks to Redbook magazine about her home life with Garth.
  • Lacey Brown was booted off American Idol last night, after Tuesday’s woeful performance of “Ruby Tuesday.” Asked what she’ll do next, she said she “might go the country route.” You have to love the conviction.
  • Kevin Coyne from Country Universe looks back at Sammy Kershaw’s forgotten 1992 hit “Yard Sale.”
  • Miranda Lambert talks music and guitars with Gibson.

“The only thing I did differently [with Revolution] was to take a bit more time to do the songwriting. Things were very rushed with the last album, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. I was on the road, and was finishing songs in the studio. For this album, I used the same musicians and the same producers, but I used different co-writers, and I took more time. Having some success allowed me to have more control of my schedule.”

  • Mindy McCready’s new album I’m Still Here “…present[s] a sober-eyed look at a life full of drama,” according to Entertainment Weekly’s Mikael Wood, who gave the disc a “B” grade in his review.
  • 23 Carrie Underwood photos, to coincide with her interview in the April issue of Allure magazine.
  • Keith Whitley, Patty Loveless, Steve Wariner, John Michael Montgomery, The Goins Brothers, Molly O’Day and, Larnelle Harris are the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame’s class of 2011.
  • Syndicated radio program The Crook & Chase Country Countdown is now heard on 200 stations.
  • Blues and soul music owes a debt to country music, says Clarence Carter.

“I always listened to the Grand Ole Opry,” said the blind-from-birth, venerable and still warm-throated [singer], speaking Monday from his home in Decatur, Ga. “Ernest Tubb, Roy Acuff, Minnie Pearl.”

  • North Texas country music showman Johnnie High, whose Johnnie High’s Country Music Revue started in 1974 and helped launch artists including Boxcar Willie, Steve Holy and LeAnn Rimes, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80.
  • When Easton Corbin went to Wal-Mart to buy his debut CD, the store hadn’t stocked it yet.

“Corbin approached an employee to ask about his CD and was told workers had been too busy to unpack them and stock the shelves. The employee then went to the back and found the CDs for him. When she returned, Corbin asked if the employee knew the man on the cover. She said, ‘Yeah, it’s you,’ ” Corbin said flatly. “I guess they get singers coming in their store to buy their CDs all the time.”

  • Taylor Swift celebrated her four most recent #1 hits by taking her label peeps and close friends out for some Italian food. Kelly Clarkson was not invited

Greg: Taylor’s label president, Scott Borchetta in defending Taylor’s off key performance at the Grammy’s dissed American Idol. Ms. Clarkson responded; http://poponthepop.com/2010/02/kelly-clarkson-defends-american-idol-disses-taylor-swifts-label/

But I have a beef with Simon right now. Two times last night on AI, they mentioned a singer had a hard time staying in tune, his answer? “I can see you singing Country”. I thought WHAT? Was he implying that you don’t need to sing in tune to sing Country or was this another dig with the whole Borchetta thing/Taylor Swift. But I thought..Country does not need AI rejects.

Was Miley talking about country music or herself? Also, I didn’t know that her father had left country music. I thought country music just turned its back on him.

Let’s see who is still making hits in, say, five years.

It’s not so much that Hanna Montana is wrong, it’s just that it’s so hypocritical. When you look up “contrived” in a dictionary, I’m pretty sure her picture is there.

Any excuse Miley wants to use to stay away from the mainstream country music scene is okay by me! Although these days I really don’t see that it matters any more….

I wonder how many decades its been since Clarence Crater listened to an Opry broadcast over the radio? For his sake I hope it been at least 40 years…

My vote is for Carrie Underwood photo # 7. It would be nice if Mindy McCready could get back into “fighting shape” so to speak. And I don’t mean for fighting her many demons.

    Rick’s Better Behaved Random Tidbits!

There is a website where you can see some of the artists down at SXSW in Austin performing live concerts over the next few days. Friday’s line up includes Carrie Rodriguez, on Saturday its Steve Poltz and The Texas Tornados, & on Sunday its Asleep At The Wheel, A Fine Frenzy, and Lambchop. They offer a moderate quality viewing link that does NOT require you to download any software or pay them a dime, as it should be:

    Direct Viewer Link : http://videoranch.gdlcdn.com/

Artist Performance Schedule: (Times are Texas / Central Time)

The artists featured cover the musical spectrum, and some of the groups feature very attractive female lead singers! I’m now waiting to see a gal named Meika Pauley(?). Hey, it works for me! (lol)

If there is anything that’s contrived it’s Miley Cyrus. I wouldn’t worry about Hannah Montana bad-mouthing country music

Lady A had a bad review of their live performance at the Houston Livestock Show recently. Can’t believe they won awards over Zac Brown Band.

“Lady A had a bad review of their live performance at the Houston Livestock Show recently. Can’t believe they won awards over Zac Brown Band.”

They give unfavorable reviews to every country artist.

Miley Cyrus is a spolied child who wouldn’t even be in the business if it wasn’t for the Disney machine shoving her down our throats, not to mention her father’s reputation in the genere.

I’m sure she wasn’t badmouthing country when she got publicity on the ACM’s, or freely hosted the CMT awards, and she certaintly wasn’t complaining when country radio played “The Climb,” or when she invited Taylor and Rascal Flatts to be in the Hannah Montana movie. Not only does she badmouth the genre that helped her get famous, but now she insults its artists that she pretended to respect?

There is nothing more contrived than the Disney train, which makes her look like an ungrateful hypocrite. She’s nothing more than a product to Disney, and she knows it. Her comments about country music itself remind me of similar ones said by “country” artist Danny Gokey. They both think twang and cowboy boots is the only way to fit in. Get with the times. Country isn’t about how you dress or how you talk, it’s about real songs and real people.

The only reason Miley even mentioned country being contrived is because she probably hers the industry rumbles about. There’s no way she came up with that explanation herself.

Miley Cyrus is a disgusting hypocrite. She whines about country having emotion yet she “sings” soulless pop music to giggling teenagers. She’s more contrived than anyone. Not to mention she lacks any kind of sound judgement on anything and comes across as a total ignoramus. And I say this as someone who is only 5 years older than her.

I love the juxtaposition of Miley’s comments with Lady Antebellum still being #3 on the Hot 100. Becuase we all know the only reason they’re selling any albums is because they wear boots and cowboy hats.

the funny thing about miley dissing country is she also dissed singing pop, saying this

The pop singer’s new hit song “Party in the U.S.A.” describes Miley being homesick and being relieved when a Jay-Z song comes on the radio. However, during an interview a reporter asked which Jay-Z song had inspired the lyric. “I don’t know, I didn’t write the song, so I have no idea. Honestly, I picked that song because I needed something to go with my clothing line. I didn’t write it [and] I didn’t expect it to be popular, originally. It was just something that I wanted to do and I needed some songs and it turned out for the best…I’ve never heard a Jay-Z song. I don’t listen to pop music. ['Party in the U.S.A.'] is not even my style of musi
