Merle Haggard Agrees To Produce New Johnny Rodriguez Album
- Kathy Coleman scored an interview with Dale Watson on About.com. Watson says he’d love to sing a duet with Loretta Lynn and claims that “Your Love I’m Gonna Miss” is his favorite song that he’s written.
How do you like working with Hyena Records this time out?
Hyena Records, though an independent label, doesn’t think small. Every label I have ever signed with only thinks regionally to their interests. Hyena knows that I travel internationally and should be promoted that way. Also they know that I’m in the cracks of genres, not rock enough for Americana, and too roots for country. They have a lot of integrity and are putting their neck out their to make a mark with my music.
- After missing his first show at the CMA Music Festival, Johnny Rodriguez made it to his second. His set was part of a showcase to Hispanic country acts that included Bobby Marquez, Melanie Torres and John Arthur Martinez. He also announced that Merle Haggard has agreed to produce his new album.
- Pam Tillis inducted her father, Mel Tillis, into the Opry this past Saturday.
“Thank you so much. It took me 52 years — and I do appreciate this. I’d like to thank Porter Wagoner who taught me just about everything I know about this business,” Mel replied.
- The tribute song, “If You’re Reading This”, that Tim McGraw sang live at the ACM Awards show has been remixed and is officially released to radio. Tim McGraw’s manager on why he didn’t perform his current single at the awards show:
“I have had a lot of industry people ask why Tim would choose to do something other than his current single on an awards show. I think it takes a true artist with vision to look beyond the status quo and see what might exist by stretching the boundaries.”

- Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp joined the New York mayor to announce the date for the annual Farm Aid benefit. The benefit will take place on September 9th on Randall’s Island.
Nelson was one of the first biofuel champions in the music world and recalled being puzzled when his wife first told him she was interested in purchasing a biofuel-compatible Volkswagen Jetta. “I thought she might have finally found my Maui stash,” he joked, to uproarious applause.
