you are out of your mind if you think Mark doesnt have the right sound for country radio anymore. I can personally vow that his voice is by far the best out there. He is what country radio should be like… all this new pop country crap needs to go… i mean give me a break… a song such as SHIFTWORK can make it and this one cant. There is something wrong with that picture!!!!!!!

It’s an ok song, but not as lyrically strong as “Rolling With The Flow”. I like Mark Chesnutt and hope to hear more of him on Country radio, though I’m not sure he has the right sound for Country radio anymore and his label isnt exactly a powerhouse (Lofton Creek).

Rick – I think “longnecks” was one of the best mainstream country CDs from the early 1990s. It holds up even today.

I think the self-titled CD was rushed to market. “She Was” was a sappy song, but a hit. The problem was, there was no decent follow up single. “I Want My Baby Back” would be a forgettable album cut, it wasn’t single-worthy. And “Im In Love With A Married Woman,” the third single, is one of those songs that is good the first time you hear it, but once you get the joke (the married woman is his wife), its no longer interesting.

I think Mark could have made a lasting comeback if he had a decent follow-up to “She Was.” But the whole self-titled CD just wasn’t that great. The only song on it that I really like is “You’d Be Wrong.”

I’ve been a Mark Chesnutt fan for years and I’m amazed he’s been able to get back on the charts. His “Longnecks and Short Stories” is a great traditional country album, but when he tried to go “modern” on the self-titled “Mark Chesnutt” in 2002 he fell flat and disappointed his loyal fans. This new song is very enjoyable and I also hopes it does well on radio, but I don’t think it will as they still crave pop-rock crap or wedding/overly sentimental sappy songs.

Let’s face it, the specific target demographic audience Top 40 mainstream country radio has carved out for itself has pretty crappy and shallow taste in music. They want pleasant, sappy pop-rock background elevator music and artistic quality has become almost irrelevant to country radio these days. The new artists I get excited about usually go nowhere and the one’s I can’t stand hit the Top 20. I want Sirius and XM to hurry up and merge so I can get both XM 14 Willie’s Place and Elizabeth Cook’s Sirius weekly show on a single network!!!!!
