Man Charged For Stalking Martina McBride And Alison Krauss Would Love To Sing Traditional Country
- CMT sheds some light on who Elizabeth Cook is as a person, where she draws inspiration for her songs, and her unwavering artistic standards. Want to know where the authenticity in her music comes from?
“Some people’s parents aren’t around or some people’s parents aren’t involved, and that affects them and who they’ve become,” she says. “I was very fortunate to have two very good, solid, hard-working, honest, loving — if poor, white trash country music people — for parents. It’s everything that I am.”
She also welcomes the comparison to Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn with open arms.
- Jake Owen thought a joke was being played on him when he visited a karaoke bar and one of the members of the audience started to sing his song, but he soon realized the man didn’t even know he was in attendance.
After the performance Jake introduced himself to the young man, who told him he had just returned from service in Iraq and that his wife had recently left him.
- A man by the name of Ricky D. Fissel has been charged with stalking Martina McBride after he showed up at her house on two separate occasions. John McBride identified the man in a photo lineup. A search was performed at Fissel’s house where authorities found a newspaper article with Martina’s photo circled and hearts surrounding it.
- Lonesome Music is pushing two new songs from Two Dollar Pistol.
It’s about time we had some proper straight-up country round here and these new ones from North Carolina’s Two Dollar Pistols are just that. Full on slide guitar, honky-tonk, non-ironic country at that. And, my word, have you heard this man sing? John Howie Jr is blessed with a fine set of baritone pipes.
- I’ve been meaning to get out to the Mean Eyed Cat here in Austin for a while, but people keep backing out on me. After reading about the bar on CMT I think I’ll be going solo if I can’t find someone to go with soon.
Only one building in all of Austin was suited to be the home of Mean Eyed Cat, a small bar near downtown that is thoroughly decorated to honor Johnny Cash.
Plus they regularly feature Lucas Hudgins & The First Cousins.
- Country Mike asks the question “Is Keith Whitley the Hank Williams of this generation?” He says the answer is yes and wrote an article to support his case.
- John Gerome from the Associated Press has a Q&A with Alison Krauss.
You’ve recorded with many different artists over the years. Is there a style of music you haven’t touched on that you’d like to?
I’d love to sing some traditional country sometime. I think it would be fun. I haven’t done much of that with the pedal steel and everything.
- Cross Canadian Ragweed talks about their live album. I didn’t know Cody Canada was best friends with Dierks Bentley and that he named his son after Dierks. Cool stuff.

Memo to aspiring stalkers: never leave a newspaper lying around with hearts drawn around a picture of your chosen stalkee. It’s pretty much a dead giveaway.

Not exactly the same as the Jake Owen story, but I was in a Seattle bowling alley with a group of people that included a few members of Pearl Jam. It was a bowling alley/karaoke bar. Members of the group (also including some fairly prominent members of the Seattle music scene) kept slipping up for a karaoke number. Finally, a singer people recognized (named Eddie Vedder) took the mike but the owner kicked everyone out because it was closing time. That kind of situation makes one realize it takes more than a machine to make a bar a karaoke bar. The owner didn’t have a clue what he was ruining.

I’ve never been to a karaoke deal before, but I think it’d be pretty hilarious. I do love to bowl when I get the chance. It sucks the owner shut down such a golden opportunity.
