Can anyone tell me if Kenny Chesney has been invitied on the Grand Ole Opry since he began his career? I am a faithful watcher and my daughters and I were discussing this the other day.

Jen - He hasn’t been invited to become a member, which is what Austin is alluding to from our previous mailbag. Whether he’s been invited to play on stage at the Opry is a different question and one I don’t know off the top of my head. If one of the other guys knows they’ll probably chime in, otherwise I’ll see if I can find something out via Google.

We get that question a lot at CW. Actually, it’s usually phrased not as an inquiry but more like, “Don’t you know about Kenny Chesney?”
Still, that’s not nearly as popular as “Are Blake Shelton and Ricky Van Shelton related?” and “Can you get me backstage at ________’s concert in ________?”

Do you know WHY radio stations don’t play the version of Josh Turner’s “Me & God” with Dr. Ralph Stanley? And on that note why Tracy Lawrence released his solo version of “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” to radio instead of the one with Tim & Kenny?
I’m a new fan of 9513 so I appologize if this has already been addressed.

– Radio stations don’t want to play a song by someone who sounds old. Period. They’re terrified of alienating listeners in the 18-34 demographic.
– It’s most likely the case that Tim’s label and Kenny’s label don’t want their artists on someone else’s single, for fear of causing confusion with their own current singles.

In regards to the Tracy song, here’s the deal.
The single has been at radio for longer than anything I can remember. I stalled, and everyone thouht it was dead. The was the solo version. Later we heard the version with Tim and Kenny.
“Find Out Who Your Friends Are” has had one of the longest radio runs I’ve seen in a long, long time. Radio does play te Tim & Kenny version, and from what I understand, that may have saved it.

Jessica, you are right, it is interesting to see what is played where. I’m in Canada and believe me, the Dixie Chicks are NOT hurting for air time up here. We typically get the Ralph Stanley version of Me & God too. I only heard the Tim & Kenny version of “Friends” a few weeks ago (on Bob Kingsley’s Country Countdown interestingly enough) and I thought I was going crazy because I hadn’t “recognized” their voices before. Come to find out it’s because I hadn’t heard that version of the song.
Jim, thank you for the welcome. I already love it here :) I am addicted to Country Music news and this is one of the most comprehensive, honest sites I have come across in a long time.
