‘Play On’ is up on AOL listening party, so for those who want to stream it to decide if you want to buy it or not. I’ve streamed it and am not going to buy the whole thing, the sound isn’t for me but can see its appeal for the demo it’s targeted to. Although I did find Temporary Home to be quite good. I’d say her best song of her young career, at least in my eyes, so I’ll DL that one only.

I’m pretty sure many people do care what the NYT has to say. I believe it still remains one of the more influential papers out there.

Whether many Carrie Underwood fans care what the Times has to say, I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not.

I agree that Patty’s second Mountain Soul isn’t as good as the first (though it’s still very good), but I must heartily disagree about her voice. We saw her in concert this past summer and she’s still in very fine voice.

Carrie’s new “Play On” CD is for sale this week for $ 10 at both Target and Best Buy. I’d be more tempted to spend the money on the new “Glee” soundtrack from the TV show also released this week.

Musician friends of Amy Farris are holding a “Remembering Amy Farris” fund raising concert next Sunday night (Nov. 8) at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, California. Guests will include Dave Alvin, Peter Case, and I See Hawks In L.A. among others. Funds raised from the $ 10 admission will go to Amy’s favorite charity which provides funds for music lessons for low income people.

I’m glad I grabbed my ticket at a Chip Taylor concert there last Friday night as they’ve sold out.

I won a copy of “Mountain Soul II” from “My Kind of Country” and am thankful I didn’t pay for it. The title is about all it has in common with the excellent first album. Patty’s voice these days ain’t what it used to be and the songs aren’t in the same league either. A truly lackluster effort.

I totally disagree on The New York Times review about Carrie’s “Temporary Home”. It is very emotional and a terrific song and she sings it superbly. I think to call it “maudlin” is not correct at all. This is a true country song.
