Live Blog: Nashville Star, Season Six, Episode Three

Tonight is the dreaded pop night on Nashville Star, but how exactly it’ll be different from the previous two episodes remains to be seen. As the producers have demonstrated thus far, they have no interest in promoting country music and while we’re three weeks in, none of the artists have shown that they’re capable of stepping up and setting themselves apart. Will this week be the week that favorites begin to develop? Or is the more pertinent question whether or not country fans will be able to make it through the entire episode without turning off their televisions in disgust? Join us in an hour to weigh in with your thoughts.
10:57 - Brady: Thanks to everyone who stopped and keeping us from becoming completely cynical in the process.
10:53 - Brady: The voters get it right and send Justin Gaston home. He didn’t belong in this competition.
10:49 - Brady: The moment of truth arrives and… they send it to a commercial break. That’s the second time they’ve done that during this show. It wasn’t funny the first time and it’s not funny the second time.
10:47 - Brady: The judges criticism about the song not being country is spot on. There wasn’t anything country about his performance.

10:44 - Brody: Anytime I hear “Maniac” I think of the scene in Tommy Boy when Chris Farley and Rob Lowe are washing dung off themselves after a night of cow tipping. Which doesn’t really fare well for Tommy. By the way, if you haven’t seen Tommy Boy, get it now.
10:44 - Brady: Tommy Stanley will channel his inner Tommy Boy and sing “Maniac.”

10:41 - Brady: Although that’s not saying much.
10:41 - Brady: In another WTF moment, this is actually his best performance on the show so far.
10:40 - Brady: Haha, Jewel said Justin is in danger from John Rich.
10:38 - Brady: WTF? Justin Gaston is singing “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
10:32 - Brady: I think Matt B got it right: “Melissa has the best voice for sure. It’s not really country. There are some pitch-y parts though…”

10:29 - Brady: Justin Gaston joins Tommy Stanley in the bottom two. Looks like the voters got things right this time.

10:20 - Brady: This wasn’t a whole lot different than what gets played on mainstream radio.
10:18 - Brady: Shawn Mayer goes from George Jones “He Stopped Loving Her Today” one week to ‘N Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye.”
10:17 - Brody: Peter Kohan: “I call that kind of music “slut pop,” because it serves no other purpose than to provide the soundtrack for strip joints across America. Were they wearing clear heels during that performance? Danity Kane sounds like a stripper’s name to begin with.”
10:13 - Brody: For archiving purposes, and those who might read the live blog and didn’t see the show, I feel obligated to mention that Danity Kane just performed.
10:14 - Brady: Karlie: “Perhaps the next CMT Crossroads can feature George Jones and Danity Kane” Now there’s a concept.
10:09 - Brody: I hate to get caught up in all the bashing, but this show really is a train wreck and the contestants are all mostly forgettable.
10:04 - Brady: Rich says Laura and Sophie turned him on… musically.
10:03 - Brady: Wow, what they’ve been able to do with this song is pretty dang amazing. Let’s hear what the judges have to say.

10:01 - Brady: Sam G: “I don’t think Michael sang this song with two GIRLS in mind, but maybe they can make something with it.”
10:00 - Brody: Laura and Sophie are shootin’ for Michael Jackson’s “Pretty Young Thing.”
9:53 - Brody: How much do you think they had to pay John Anderson to sit in the audience.
9:52 - Brady: That left me wondering why Coffey even tried out for Nashville Star. And John Rich just compared Coffey to John Anderson. A country soul singer?
9:52 - Brody: Commenters are comparing that performance to a bad porno and and Mrs. O’Leary’s goat.

9:50 - Brody: Is it just me or does Coffey remind anyone else of Jackass’s Steve-O?
9:49 - Brady: You’d expect Coffey to right at home on pop week considering his previous song choices, but he’s outdone himself this week and is performing “Umbrella” by Rhianna.
9:48 - Brody: Michael posted this link in the comments detailing the 18% decline in ratings from week one to week two.
9:43 - Brody: Yo, yo dawg. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. It was just OK for me.
9:43 - Brady: Matt B: “Jewel: “I see so much of myself in you…” Newsflash Jewel, so does everyother f’n person who’s watching this show.”
9:42 - Brady: Hewitt didn’t sound bad, but her voice seems better suited for folk.

9:39 - Brody: I guess I can’t be too disappointed with song choices knowing beforehand that this was going to be pop week. Let’s see what Ashlee does with this.
9:39 - Brady: Ashlee Hewitt will be singing Britney Spears’ “You Drive Me Crazy.” It’s her second pop song on the show.
9:36 - Brody: Kelly: “katie cook, billy ray just called and wants his hair straightener back!!!”
9:34 - Brody: Billy Ray should have stepped in a little sonner to save her from Rich. Man, he was trashing her.
9:32 - Brady: What kind of criticism is that from Jeffrey Steele? “Too much pop in my country.” It’s frickin’ pop week.
9:32 - Brody: Jewel, the dog showed called and wants their training hoops back.

9:30 - Brody: I’m clearly out of my element as I’ve never heard of this song, but Alyson Gilbert resembles the original singer (Tiffany?) from the clip that aired.
9:30 - Brady: John Rich on Alyson’s song choice: “I’d make it rock.” That’s not obvious.
9:25 - Brody: I really don’t have a lot to say about Pearl Heart, but the girlfriend was digging their arrangement.
9:25 - Brady: Pearl heart is performing “Love Shack” and the could stand to learn a few moves from the dancers performing around them.

9:24 - Brody: Michael Dean Church: “am I reading this correctly are danity kane the guest performers tonight? WTF???”
9:19 - Brody: Just a friendly reminder, Nashville Star will run two hours for at least the next two weeks. So those who already made plans for 9:30…carry on, you clearly won’t be missing much.
9:17 - Brady: John Rich says the same thing he said about Julio Iglesias, Jr: The girls really responded. Gotta give Gabe credit for trying, he has to be the front runner.

9:13 - Brady: Gabe Garcia is trying to make the most of the pop thing, but this just isn’t working for him.
9:14 - Brody: La freakin’ kill me now.
9:13 - Brody: Gabe Garcia, the one redeeming artist on the show, just announced he’ll be performing “La Vida Loca.” La freakin’ Vida Loca?!
9:11 - Brody: John Rich is so full of himself that Hazel Smith recently questioned whether he’d ever get married and prompted Roughstock to ask, “Is John Rich the country music answer for Gene Simmons?”
9:10 - Brady: Could Billy Ray sound anymore robotic reading the teleprompter?
9:08 - Brody: Things are off to a notably horrible start. It’s pop night and everything, but I wonder if they’ll be any trace of country whatsoever, since it is a country music competition and everything.
9:09 - Brady: Sam G: “When this song first came out, it was panned because its video showing Madonna having sex with a priest and showing stigmata. Now, it’s the opening number on a country music talent show.”
9:07 - Brady: I vote for whichever candidate is the first to sit out one of these horrendous intros.
9:05 - Brady: Wow, they’re not even pretending pop is going country. This is country going pop.
9:03 - Brady: Tommy Stanley is among the bottom two vote getters and Gabe Garcia is amongst the top two. That might one of the only things that goes right all night.
9:00 - Brody Things are underway and a caption just popped up on screen claiming that portions of the show are pre-recorded. EDIT: I’m assuming that’s just the clips they show for every artist working on their songs throughout the week.

This is going to be awful… again.
June 23, 2008 at 6:57 pm Permalink
Matt won’t be able to make it tonight, so this’ll be my first full night of Nashville Star this season. Add to that my recently acquired paintball wounds and chigger bites and I guess that makes me a glutton for punishment.
June 23, 2008 at 7:00 pm Permalink
Anyone else think The Wolf on American Gladiator looks like a beefed up Bucky Covington?
June 23, 2008 at 7:01 pm Permalink
no, but i think Melissa for Nashville Star does….
June 23, 2008 at 7:01 pm Permalink
Zing!
June 23, 2008 at 7:02 pm Permalink
The anticipation is killing me!…….I’ve just got to know who Kelly thinks is The Mole tonight! (lol)
This blog is a whole lot more fun than Nashville Star itself this season due to the weak line-up. I’d have to say UnderWearBoy does add a lot of entertainment value even if he is completely unqualified because he is such an easy target. The spectators have entered the coloseum and the gladiators are on the field. Let the games begin….
June 23, 2008 at 7:03 pm Permalink
Oh geez, we are so trying to copy American Idol now.
June 23, 2008 at 7:03 pm Permalink
Welcome to Pop Week… or as Nashville Star calls it, Monday.
June 23, 2008 at 7:05 pm Permalink
Pretty soon they will be having Chevy or whatever car company it was ads featuring the contestants singing cheesy songs!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:05 pm Permalink
dont worry rick, i am sure i’ll be out on “star” in plenty of time to keep everyone properly updated ;-)
June 23, 2008 at 7:05 pm Permalink
Since you can vote ten times online, I split my votes evenly between Gabe and Ashlee last week. Go Gabe!
June 23, 2008 at 7:05 pm Permalink
Y’all should check out the riot on the Nashville Star board on NBC.
June 23, 2008 at 7:06 pm Permalink
They did this pop crap just so Underwear Boy could make it another week… as he has less country in him than Marilyn Manson.
June 23, 2008 at 7:06 pm Permalink
Whoa, my ears hurt from this little number :(
June 23, 2008 at 7:06 pm Permalink
When this song first came out, it was panned because its video showing Madonna having sex with a priest and showing stigmata. Now, it’s the opening number on a country music talent show.
June 23, 2008 at 7:08 pm Permalink
and we’re off……key
June 23, 2008 at 7:11 pm Permalink
Oh great, navy boy talks about himself in the third person.
June 23, 2008 at 7:12 pm Permalink
I think Jeffrey Steele is coaching the Mickey Mouse club.
June 23, 2008 at 7:16 pm Permalink
Gabe Garcia, “La Vida Loca”: Que mierde. This will go down as Exhibit A as to why honky-tonk singers should not try to cover Ricky Martin. Gabe doesn’t deserve this.
June 23, 2008 at 7:16 pm Permalink
Gabe is head and shoulders #1.
June 23, 2008 at 7:17 pm Permalink
that was predictable…why not bust out with “to all the girls I’ve loved before”???
June 23, 2008 at 7:17 pm Permalink
that was predictable…why not bust out with “to all the girls I’ve loved before”???

June 23, 2008 at 7:17 pm Permalink
OMG here we go again another night of Complete Crap YEAH!!! the sad thing is last week i saw a better singer on Americas got talent sad thing is she was 4!!! LOL
June 23, 2008 at 7:17 pm Permalink
uhhh, sorry ’bout that…
June 23, 2008 at 7:18 pm Permalink
Hey, Gabe should have covered the Pam Tillis song “Mi Vida Loca” instead! That qualifies as a pop song doesn’t it? Oh, the fact it came from a country singer likely disqualifies it on this Nashywood debacle…
June 23, 2008 at 7:19 pm Permalink
I think I read that the producers give them three songs to choose from, so it’s not like they have much room to work with.
June 23, 2008 at 7:20 pm Permalink
Did I just hear Katie Cook say they’d be annoucing the next contestant to join Tommy i the ‘top 2?’ Or were my ears off kilter?
June 23, 2008 at 7:21 pm Permalink
If she said top, she meant bottom. Tommy was in the bottom two.
June 23, 2008 at 7:22 pm Permalink
Now taking bets on who’ll join Tommy in the bottom two.
June 23, 2008 at 7:22 pm Permalink
I was in the kitchen listening but I didn’t think Gabe sounded bad at all. At least he can sing.
June 23, 2008 at 7:22 pm Permalink
am I reading this correctly are danity kane the guest performers tonight? WTF???
June 23, 2008 at 7:23 pm Permalink
Michael, that’s correct. I didn’t have a clue who they were before checking them out just before the show.
June 23, 2008 at 7:23 pm Permalink
Yeah, Brady. I thought he was in the bottom 2, that’s why my ears perked up. Either that or I’ve got to lay off the Bud Light for the remainder of the show.
June 23, 2008 at 7:24 pm Permalink
its rediculous there the girls from making the band!!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:25 pm Permalink
At least they are making it sound country. Not sure yet if I like them though. They kind of annoy me for some reason.
June 23, 2008 at 7:25 pm Permalink
this whole cross genre thing is corney even though they have yet to really do any country songs on any of the nights thus far, but I think this just doesnt work for this show,
June 23, 2008 at 7:26 pm Permalink
Michael, you should be grateful you didn’t make it onto this joke of a show. The damage it might have done to your reputation may have been beyond repair. Maybe there will be a mercy killing like happened with ABC’s dreadful “The One” awhile back…….
June 23, 2008 at 7:26 pm Permalink
Pearl Heart, “Love Shack”: OK, if you’re going to do a pop song on this show, do it THAT way. Great job bluegrassing it up.
June 23, 2008 at 7:26 pm Permalink
hmm…”Love Shack” might work as a bluegrass song for an actual bluegrass artist or even the Dixie Chicks but this group is about as entertaining as a steaming pile of Triumph The Insult Comic Dog’s poop.
June 23, 2008 at 7:28 pm Permalink
yeah rick I am so glad that this didnt work out for me although I would not have had any competition, but I would have had major issues with the way its being done this year and would have probably quit after the first episode anyway. I just dont have a good outlook on the whole country music business as a whole anymore.
June 23, 2008 at 7:29 pm Permalink
YAY, I am glad she is safe. I like her.
June 23, 2008 at 7:29 pm Permalink
Gabe, Gabe, Gabe, no other reality show contestant is going to do justice to La Vida Loca the way that William Hung did.
June 23, 2008 at 7:30 pm Permalink
Alyson Gilbert, “I Think We’re Alone Now”: This is the girl with the crazy eyes, isn’t she. I hope she goes more with the Tommy James version than freakin’ Tiffany.
June 23, 2008 at 7:31 pm Permalink
she’s fine…i may even turn the sound back on…
June 23, 2008 at 7:31 pm Permalink
Ouch, I think she has changed keys about 6 times now.
June 23, 2008 at 7:31 pm Permalink
Ugh….This song could actually work in today’s market. The problem is the song exposes HOW BAD this chick is at singing (especially the high notes) . There’s not one single lyric on key. She’s flat!
June 23, 2008 at 7:31 pm Permalink
Not liking the Tiffany song AT ALL!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:32 pm Permalink
ugh she probably is for sure alone now I just saw about 5 people leave the audience lol
June 23, 2008 at 7:32 pm Permalink
We men demand that if the teenybopper girls keep UWB on the show, we want Alyson to get equal time…..
June 23, 2008 at 7:32 pm Permalink
Stormy, William Hung did “She Bangs.” Which was about a million times more interesting than Alyson’s singing.
June 23, 2008 at 7:33 pm Permalink
did jeffrey steele just say “Too Much POP, in his country”??????
June 23, 2008 at 7:33 pm Permalink
Well, she is pretty. At least she has that going for her.
June 23, 2008 at 7:33 pm Permalink
I have a feeling that Underwear boy will be staying rick. But she’s not.
June 23, 2008 at 7:34 pm Permalink
has anyone saw any ratings announcements for this mess?? I am so shocked that it hasnt got cancelled
June 23, 2008 at 7:35 pm Permalink
katie cook, billy ray just called and wants his hair straightener back!!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:36 pm Permalink
What’s sad is that when Alyson performed on A Prairie Home Companion she sounded quite good. I don’t know if its nerves or just the crappy songs she’s chosen thus far. She really can sing, although you’d never guess from her performances thus far on Nashville Star…..
June 23, 2008 at 7:36 pm Permalink
they should have let Katie host this show though at least she can read a telepromter, does anyone else think its so obvious that billy rae is reading?
June 23, 2008 at 7:37 pm Permalink
Michael, Billy Ray has been horrendous thus far. I can’t believe they haven’t replaced him yet. Do they not have auditions for this stuff?
June 23, 2008 at 7:38 pm Permalink
Michael,
This show would’ve been canceled in any season but the summer.
June 23, 2008 at 7:38 pm Permalink
When the show moved to NBC they fired the producers of the USA show and brought in the producers who do that bisexual dating show on MTV, Tila Tequila.
June 23, 2008 at 7:38 pm Permalink
Y’know, BRC is on the show so that Miley guests later in the season.
June 23, 2008 at 7:39 pm Permalink
i just found the ratings from last weeks episode and there tanking they were the worst in there timeslot even lower than the mole
June 23, 2008 at 7:40 pm Permalink
“You Drive Me Crazy?” Yikes. So we’ll see what Jewel tried to do with her 0604 album: Britney Spears with a wispy vocal.
June 23, 2008 at 7:40 pm Permalink
Ashlee Hewitt, Some Britney song I’ve never heard of: Richard Thompson nailed “Oops I Did It Again” and Nickel Creek’s “Toxic” was great too. I don’t think Ashlee is in that same league of people who can do good Britney covers.
June 23, 2008 at 7:40 pm Permalink
and the ratings fell drastically from the season premiere
June 23, 2008 at 7:41 pm Permalink
Funny, she sounds just like Jessica Simpson, not Britney. I think this is decent though.
June 23, 2008 at 7:41 pm Permalink
Sounds like Taylor Swift to me.
June 23, 2008 at 7:42 pm Permalink
HAHA…I just said that!
June 23, 2008 at 7:42 pm Permalink
Huh. Her vocals weren’t the greatest, but that was a pretty good version, actually.
June 23, 2008 at 7:43 pm Permalink
Jewel: “I see so much of myself in you…”
Newsflash Jewel, so does everyother f’n person who’s watching this show.
June 23, 2008 at 7:43 pm Permalink
just what country needs two jewels I didnt even ask for the origional now I have to get a clone>?
June 23, 2008 at 7:44 pm Permalink
he needs to shave his head off his shoulders DUMB IDIOT!!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:45 pm Permalink
Jewel’s being cloned? Where can I get an order form….
June 23, 2008 at 7:45 pm Permalink
I am not sure Rick but make sure the one you get in the mail has good teeth. lol
June 23, 2008 at 7:47 pm Permalink
http://www.medialifemagazine.com/artman2/publish/Overnights_50/NBC_s_Nashville_Star_in_a_ratings_slide.asp
here is the link about the ratings if anyone wants to read it
June 23, 2008 at 7:47 pm Permalink
Just think, we’ve heard some of the better performers so far.
June 23, 2008 at 7:47 pm Permalink
Michael, I’m with you there! And the optional “yodeling feature” is definitely a no-go! (lol)
June 23, 2008 at 7:48 pm Permalink
Brody,
“You know what that was like? It was like watching a ghastly cabaret peformance”
June 23, 2008 at 7:48 pm Permalink
make sure you also pick up a billy Rae Bobble head with that order!!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:49 pm Permalink
Umbrella? This I gotta see
June 23, 2008 at 7:49 pm Permalink
Yuck umbrella this is a stretch a black guy singing a pop song by a black chick lol
June 23, 2008 at 7:49 pm Permalink
Coffey, “Umbrella”: If Coffey doesn’t do well this week, NBC is going to take away his first name, too.
June 23, 2008 at 7:49 pm Permalink
Yikes, He’s singing “Umbrella?” Get ready for the Taylor Swift version.
June 23, 2008 at 7:51 pm Permalink
omg this is the worst thing I have ever seen
June 23, 2008 at 7:51 pm Permalink
Ella. Ella. Ella.
June 23, 2008 at 7:51 pm Permalink
I would rather get soaked and drown than be under any umbrella with this jack ass!!! lol
June 23, 2008 at 7:51 pm Permalink
Coffey just got the longest video. Seems they want him singing. Too bad he has to yell names like his daughter and other words.
This song wouldn’t ever work as a country song.
Coffey is the Blake Lewis of Nashville Star?
June 23, 2008 at 7:52 pm Permalink
Coffey’s got shake voice-voice-voice, ay ay ay…
June 23, 2008 at 7:52 pm Permalink
Wow, that ending was like a bad porno!
June 23, 2008 at 7:52 pm Permalink
Coffey has Neal McCoy’s stage presence and the vocal stylings of Mrs. O’Leary’s goat.
June 23, 2008 at 7:52 pm Permalink
i guess hes now the new carol burnett whats up with the wierd ear tug thing,
June 23, 2008 at 7:53 pm Permalink
I think these NBC/VH1 reality show producers truly hate country music and are using Nashville Star as a way to bury it once and for all…..
June 23, 2008 at 7:53 pm Permalink
John Rich pulling his Gene Simmons again. Yikes. Steele had it right.
June 23, 2008 at 7:54 pm Permalink
yeah Rick is sure seems that way. they need to stick to casting bisexual chineese shows like tila tequila and leave nashville alone.
June 23, 2008 at 7:55 pm Permalink
well I dont know about yall but now I cant even drink coffee anymore after that
June 23, 2008 at 7:55 pm Permalink
It was HORRIBLE!!
June 23, 2008 at 7:56 pm Permalink
Hell, even American Idol’s producers produced a decent country show (”can you duet”)
June 23, 2008 at 7:57 pm Permalink
i am scared to find out what is the next song, anyone wanna take bets? TUTI FRUTTI? lol
June 23, 2008 at 7:57 pm Permalink
Matt, American Idol has had better country performances than this show. Can You Duet was orders of magnitude better than this.
June 23, 2008 at 7:58 pm Permalink
they should have just let this show go to the graveyard instead of taking it and turning it into a royal joke, looks like the Country music association or someone could sue for this lack of Respect.
June 23, 2008 at 7:59 pm Permalink
I believe Ms. Tequila is Vietnamese, not “chineese.”
June 23, 2008 at 7:59 pm Permalink
Where’s Kelly with our Mole updates?
June 23, 2008 at 8:00 pm Permalink
Justin is definitely gonna cry tonight.
June 23, 2008 at 8:01 pm Permalink
Laura & Sophie, Michael Jackson’s PYT: I don’t think Michael sang this song with two GIRLS in mind, but maybe they can make something with it.
June 23, 2008 at 8:01 pm Permalink
two teenage country girls singing a homosexual pedophiles’ song about a pretty woman…..now this is reality tv
June 23, 2008 at 8:01 pm Permalink
So what’s more disturbing in retrospect, Michael Jackson recording a song called “Pretty Young Thing” or R. Kelly producing an album called “Age Ain’t Nothin’ But a Number”?
June 23, 2008 at 8:01 pm Permalink
Chineese, Japaneese, Vietnamese, the point is that show is a joke and so is this one. lol
June 23, 2008 at 8:01 pm Permalink
An advance copy of Sarah Buxton’s full advance CD just sold on ebay for $ 27.50 plus shipping. There was a time they fetched a much higher price, so Sarah is sadly slipping from the consciousness of the Top 40 country listening audience. What a tragedy, especially when you compare Sarah’s talent to the constestants on this season of Nashville Star…..
June 23, 2008 at 8:02 pm Permalink
If nothing else, both these two girls and Michael Jackson probably would be calling young boys “pretty young things.”
June 23, 2008 at 8:02 pm Permalink
this is not as strange as the rest of them have been
June 23, 2008 at 8:03 pm Permalink
Rick, I didn’t realize you could buy advance copies on eBay.
June 23, 2008 at 8:03 pm Permalink
Girl in Green (not sure if that’s Laura or Sophie) should be singing lead. She’s clearly the Naomi Judd in this duo. Still, they harmonize well.
Just going from the arrangements, Jeffrey Steele is the only judge who figured out how to make this crap theme week work.
June 23, 2008 at 8:03 pm Permalink
Yeah Rick Sarah is amazing
June 23, 2008 at 8:05 pm Permalink
These gals in their bio video said they were so into being together and singing that they didn’t have time to date boys! There may be more of a similarity to Michael Jackson than we care to consider……
June 23, 2008 at 8:06 pm Permalink
I think the producers are reading the comments on The 9513 and feeding one liners to Billy Ray.
June 23, 2008 at 8:06 pm Permalink
Now we know what happens when Billy Ray doesn’t read from the teleprompter–his jokes fall flat!
June 23, 2008 at 8:06 pm Permalink
“Rick, I didn’t realize you could buy advance copies on eBay.”
Legally you can’t.
June 23, 2008 at 8:06 pm Permalink
why do you think that brady?
June 23, 2008 at 8:08 pm Permalink
the mole’s first challenge tonight contains bars of gold…which is more gold than i have seen on “star” tonight…hhhaaaaaaoooooo
June 23, 2008 at 8:08 pm Permalink
At least that performance wasn’t bad. That’s why I said Steele is the best judge on the show.
June 23, 2008 at 8:08 pm Permalink
I was just jokin’ cuz everyone else was commenting on the irony of Michael Jackson singing a song called “Pretty Young Thing.”
June 23, 2008 at 8:09 pm Permalink
Brody, a judge just recently ruled that is perfectly legal for advance copies to be resold by recipients after relinquished by the issuing labels! Prior to this ruling, which was based on an ebay seller, the labels could complain to ebay and have auctions pulled, which Lyric Street did with Sarah’s until after the EP was made available.
I think that hard copy advance/promo CDs and DJ CD singles are going the way of the dinosaur (and hopefully Nashville Star after this season)….
June 23, 2008 at 8:09 pm Permalink
I have to be honest the highlight of this trainwreck tonight I think will be Danity Kane
June 23, 2008 at 8:09 pm Permalink
I think BRC just stated the obvious considering that song (then again Jackson co-wrote it so perhaps he was, u know, thinking of that stuff then).

So Sarah is actually going to have a full CD come out? Awesome, can’t wait!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:11 pm Permalink
What the F*** is this? Solid Gold?
June 23, 2008 at 8:11 pm Permalink
Rick,
Lyric Street put the promo for Marcel up on their media site. It’s an EP but that’s how they’re already handling promos. my promo for Carter’s Chord was a CDR from Toby Keith’s label.
June 23, 2008 at 8:11 pm Permalink
there not all that bad I dont guess
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm Permalink
I can’t wait to see what John Rich has to say after the DK performance.
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm Permalink
Kim,
Sarah won’t have THAT CD come out. But, yeah, there’s still hope she will have one come out.
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm Permalink
Hey Peter whats up man long time no hear
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm Permalink
Danity Kane, what a group of role models for the teenage girls singing on this show.
June 23, 2008 at 8:12 pm Permalink
I really hope Melissa isn’t eliminted tonight. At least she can sing.
June 23, 2008 at 8:14 pm Permalink
yeah really couldnt they just have let Jewel sing or something since she is really just pop trying to be country or was Jessica simpson out of town she could have sang one of her forgettable pop songs
June 23, 2008 at 8:14 pm Permalink
Perhaps the next CMT Crossroads can feature George Jones and Danity Kane.
June 23, 2008 at 8:16 pm Permalink
I think that Pfizer commercial is speaking to us all. Maybe it’s our time to quit.
June 23, 2008 at 8:16 pm Permalink
Thanks for the update, Kelly!
June 23, 2008 at 8:16 pm Permalink
Yeah Karlie or how about 50cent and Loretta Lynn
June 23, 2008 at 8:16 pm Permalink
I call that kind of music “slut pop,” because it serves no other purpose than to provide the soundtrack for strip joints across America.
Were they wearing clear heels during that performance? Danity Kane sounds like a stripper’s name to begin with.
June 23, 2008 at 8:17 pm Permalink
With John Rich repeatedly saying they should have rocked that song more, I will not be the slightest bit surprised if next week is “Rock Goes Country” or even original “rock” song night.
June 23, 2008 at 8:17 pm Permalink
Kim, how ’bout some hick hop?
June 23, 2008 at 8:18 pm Permalink
“it serves no other purpose than to provide the soundtrack for strip joints across America.”
I consider that a noble goal, actually.
June 23, 2008 at 8:18 pm Permalink
I thought this site discusses country music as a whole, not stupid judgemental comments that has nothing to do with music. Sounds like ya’ll a bunch of f***ing morons(brady v.). Get a life and start talking about county music and not the stupid crap people do around the world. Brady must think his site rocks(ha,ha,)? there you go again brady acting like your something special. This blog sucks. No disrespect to the intelligent blogers here, but you need to go to a better site because i am.

June 23, 2008 at 8:18 pm Permalink
Lol, oh yeah forgot about “hick hop.”
June 23, 2008 at 8:18 pm Permalink
peter, that’s what P.Diddy wants.
Oh wow, UWB might get cut? I’d be shocked! More likely the full-figured girl will.
Bye, Bye, Bye?
June 23, 2008 at 8:19 pm Permalink
Shawn Mayer, “Bye Bye Bye”: Cue up the screamfest.
June 23, 2008 at 8:19 pm Permalink
Do we really need a “back to you” mike cue?
‘N Sync???
June 23, 2008 at 8:19 pm Permalink
First thought about Bye Bye Bye? Why hadn’t Rascal Flatts thought of that yet?
June 23, 2008 at 8:20 pm Permalink
I like this acutally.
June 23, 2008 at 8:21 pm Permalink
dang I guess someone pissed tim off LOL does he work for nashville star? lol
June 23, 2008 at 8:21 pm Permalink
Is there an NBC troll in the house?
June 23, 2008 at 8:21 pm Permalink
Tim do you work for Nashville Star or something?
June 23, 2008 at 8:21 pm Permalink
That’s not country, no matter what Jewel says.
June 23, 2008 at 8:22 pm Permalink
Tim, this is the Hollywood version of Nashville Star and you expect us to take this seriously? The producers obviously don’t, so why should we? At least we have actually found a way to make this an enjoyable experience in spite of the level of the music being performed………
June 23, 2008 at 8:22 pm Permalink
Chris - I’m just saying I’d rather that kind of music was CONFINED to strip joints - so I don’t have to hear it.
Jewel - you really went outside of your comfort zone.” This show is out of my comfort zone. Jewel is doing her best Paula Abdul.
June 23, 2008 at 8:22 pm Permalink
Bye bye bye, Tim.
June 23, 2008 at 8:22 pm Permalink
Tim — what county music do you want us to talk about? I live in Cook County, Ill. — does that work for you?
June 23, 2008 at 8:24 pm Permalink
well I dont know about you all but I say To TIM dont let the door hit you where the good lord split ya!!! Dumb ASS!!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:24 pm Permalink
OK then, I just wanted to make sure the good name of America’s strip joints wasn’t being denigrated.
June 23, 2008 at 8:25 pm Permalink
Despite what Tim says, this is the best blog/chat ever! I laugh my arse off every week reading the comments :)
June 23, 2008 at 8:26 pm Permalink
I think I upset Tim over on the Gary Allan album review.
June 23, 2008 at 8:26 pm Permalink
my pick last week for the mole, the fat guy, is currently under hospital supervision because he couldnt get up a hill…he has MOLE written all over him, that sabatoging dirt-bag!!!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:27 pm Permalink
Chris as long as there are men on earth, there’ll be a strip joint somewhere playing ’stripper songs.’ ;)
June 23, 2008 at 8:27 pm Permalink
Uh oh, maybe I don’t want to read the Gary review. Gary can do no wrong in my eyes :)
June 23, 2008 at 8:27 pm Permalink
I agree..This blog is hysterical!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:28 pm Permalink
Tim is my new pick for the mole…
June 23, 2008 at 8:29 pm Permalink
Justin has got to go home!
June 23, 2008 at 8:29 pm Permalink
Tim - I think this live blog shows a lot of what mainstream current country music, hell modern pop as well, is aiming at: offending no one and creating nothing original or compelling.
I’d love to be talking about some angry Country music, a la “Take This Job and Shove It.” We got gas at $4+ a gallon and no one’s written a kick ass angry song about it that has resonated? What the hell is that about?
Billy Ray - Don’t be rocking the “soul patch” if you are devoid of soul.
June 23, 2008 at 8:29 pm Permalink
Underwear Boy and Navy Boy in the bottom 2? Amur’ka hates patriots and pretty boys, apparently.
June 23, 2008 at 8:29 pm Permalink
Wow, there is something redeeming about this show afterall–UWB is in the bottom 2!! This could definitely be a pop song done right country!
June 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm Permalink
Kim, it wasn’t a bad review, so don’t worry about reading it upsetting you.
June 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm Permalink
I don’t think She deserves to be in the bottom anyway.
June 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm Permalink
There is a god. UWB is in the bottom two.
June 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm Permalink
UWB might go home but I still think the fans will take the other dude.
She’s gonna do a good job with “True Colors.”
June 23, 2008 at 8:30 pm Permalink
LMAO Kelly!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:31 pm Permalink
Her voice is outstanding…What are they thinking!!??
June 23, 2008 at 8:31 pm Permalink
Ok, she is hands down the best female singer on this show!! Too bad we don’t have 12 people that can sing like her. I am voting for her for sure!
June 23, 2008 at 8:31 pm Permalink
Melissa has the best voice for sure. It’s not really country. There are some pitch-y parts though…
June 23, 2008 at 8:32 pm Permalink
Hallelujah at least something to rally around sing it girl
June 23, 2008 at 8:32 pm Permalink
This is a great song, and she’s not screwing it up. Well, not much, at least.
June 23, 2008 at 8:32 pm Permalink
OK, so if Underwear Boy goes home, who will John Rich pick on then.
June 23, 2008 at 8:33 pm Permalink
“OK then, I just wanted to make sure the good name of America’s strip joints wasn’t being denigrated.”
Chris - Just don’t name your little girls Destiny, Tiffany, or Chesty.
Maybe that’s the corollary song women should sing about guys: “Daddy, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Strippers.”
Oh man - pimpin’ ain’t easy. ;)
June 23, 2008 at 8:33 pm Permalink
Is this a Jenny Craig ad?
June 23, 2008 at 8:33 pm Permalink
67!!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:33 pm Permalink
And there’s something for all of the target audience to vote for: a woman who is losing weight. Melissa may just be that.
June 23, 2008 at 8:34 pm Permalink
Peter,
BRC named Miley “Destiny Hope” orignally. If that wasn’t a stripper name, what is?
June 23, 2008 at 8:35 pm Permalink
Wow, when they said they were going pop, they REALLY meant it! We’re getting Britney Spears, N’SYNC, Tiffany, Ricky Martin, etc. I don’t know why I’m surprised, but I am. There actually have been some really great pop songs over the years - many that would sound cool as country songs. They aren’t even remotely trying! What a joke.
Besides that, I’m also surprised that they haven’t even picked contemporary pop songs. Most of these are at least 10 years old. I feel like the producers must be my age because these are the songs that were huge when I was in college (and couldn’t avoid if I tried)! Very bizarre.
June 23, 2008 at 8:35 pm Permalink
What are the odds that Tommy and Justin will hug or that Justin cries before the show is over?
June 23, 2008 at 8:36 pm Permalink
My bet is on the hug.
June 23, 2008 at 8:37 pm Permalink
Let’s face it, this isn’t the 1960’s when a gal who looks like Mama Cass can make it in mainstream music when looks now matter as much if not more so than vocal talent. If Carrie Underwood looked like this gal she would not be where she is today. Even if all the plus size women in the audience voted for her and show wound up winning, the odds of her getting on radio would be dismal. I’m not trying to be mean, just pragmatic……
June 23, 2008 at 8:37 pm Permalink
I’m glad they ran that Cymbalta ad, because anyone hoping for some Country music on a show entitled “NASHVILLE STAR(!!!)” is surely experiencing a bout of the blahs right now.
June 23, 2008 at 8:38 pm Permalink
Token Randy Jackson comment to Melissa:
Yo! That’s what I’m talking about! Dawg that was da bomb! you worked it out!
Token Paula Abdul:
You look beautiful tonight. You showed YOUR true colors.
Token Simon Cowell:
Melissa, That’s what this show’s all about. Loved it.
June 23, 2008 at 8:38 pm Permalink
he will probably sing his next song in his bikini underwear
June 23, 2008 at 8:39 pm Permalink
Uhhhhh
June 23, 2008 at 8:39 pm Permalink
There may be a queen in country music. “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” WTF?
June 23, 2008 at 8:39 pm Permalink
Lol. I can’t wait to hear this!
June 23, 2008 at 8:39 pm Permalink
I’m rolling on the floor laughing!!!!!!
June 23, 2008 at 8:39 pm Permalink
Where’s the bet that he’s gay?
June 23, 2008 at 8:40 pm Permalink
So they just left the other boy hanging there–didn’t he just get eliminated?
June 23, 2008 at 8:40 pm Permalink
Justin Gaston must realize he’s not in a gay karaoke bar right?
June 23, 2008 at 8:41 pm Permalink
WOW!! This could actually be a country song…LOLOLOL
June 23, 2008 at 8:41 pm Permalink
