I would readily apply that description to female artists like Carrie Underwood, Reba McIntire, and Sara Evans at times, but not Ashton. Since Taylor Swift has trouble staying on pitch and her voice tends to warble, I'd call her vocal style "under singing" or maybe "sub-prime"....
