Sweet, a new Josh Turner album! 2009 is like the best year for all the releases of my favorites; Bucky, Miranda, Sara, Jo Dee, Billy Ray

Those EYB boys are gonna milk that single for all its worth, I guess. In Texas, we’ve been hearing “When it Rains” for years now, not to mention the multiple videos that have been filmed for it over the years….

Kelly,
That’s exactly why the single never rose higher on the charts, because it was already ‘played out’ in Texas and Oklahoma.

Not sure I would call that much of a “duet”. Randy Travis got maybe two lines to himself, and then Carrie overlapped him on everything else –

I have to say that I don’t like Carrie Underwood version of Travis’ song, but I have always liked this song. I am sure Travis does because it places him in the limelight again, and helps his wallet. Although I think she has a strong voice, my problem with Underwood has always been emotion. I don’t believe her when she sings. I always think that her voice is right, but there is no experience or suffering or even knowledge behind her singing. That is one of the reasons I think she won “American Idol”. I think she was the every girl who you could project your feelings upon. That is why all of her songs seem over the top. Her vocals are trying to shadow the real problem: no real emotion- just gloss.
I would also like to say that I wished LeAnn Rimes was having the career that Carrie Underwood is having. That said she is at least handling her adult life in a far more private way than others in her age group.

You know, I am so tired of people saying Carrie Underwood doesn’t express emotion. At the recent CMA awards, on the AI finale, and I believe her first ACM performance, she was so emotional her voice cracked and could barely sing by the end of her performances. I think some of you have developed a bad habit of trashing Carrie on this point, even when it is not true. Some of her earlier performances were wooden. No more.

Even if folks don’t care for Underwood it’s nice that this version was released for radio airplay. I heard it played today on Dallas’s two largest country stations and it was sure refreshing to hear Randy’s distinct voice once again.

Just because she is showing emotion while singing (like crying) doesn’t mean at all that she is emotionally connected to the song, and is singing the lyrics with some meaning. I don’t believe for one minute that because she was choked up while singing ‘inside your heaven’ on the AI finale that she really meant those words. Being expressive and crying because you are happy to be there/to have won are two totally different things.

You know, as listeners we tend to be kind of transparent to ourselves, so to speak – but the communication of emotion in art, including music, definitely requires both sides, artist and audience member, to be on the same page. That’s why two people can hear the same performance and differ on whether it communicated “convincing” emotion.

Speaking of Those Darlins, they were posted as today’s daytrotter . com session. They have 4 songs up for free download, all unreleased.

I think some Carrie fans have developed a habit of being over-zealous in their praise, and in the processes have also developed a habit of not recognizing and respecting a difference of opinion/taste. Dissenting isn’t trashing. Opinions can be neither be right nor wrong, that’s why they are opinions.

Craig,
Leanne would have the career Carrie if perhaps she was as talented. Carrie does not remix her songs like Leanne has throughout her career. In my opinion Carrie’s voice is more versatile and expressive. Thats why she is able to have 9 hit singles, aside from picking her songs rights its her tone and range.

I hope Josh’s new cd does real well and will have alot of gems on it, can never get enough og his voice.
I think Darius has made a great transition to country music, and I respect how he is not releasing a new song every two months (overload) like his male counterparts.
I have only one thing to mention about Carrie and I’ll let Brad Paisley say it “Brad Paisley performed his new country hit “Then”. He told Ryan, Carrie Underwood has been the greatest addition to country music in the past ten years.”
Quote from Brad on stage after his AI performance and I think he has a lot more insight and knowledge then the bloggers!!!!

Well, if *Brad Paisley* said it, it must be true.

Anna: there are those that will argue that Carrie doesn’t need to remix her songs because they are already pop enough. Second, only time will tell if Carrie is talented enough to have longevity in music. The only comparisons that should be between Carrie’s career and Leann’s should be from a comparable standpoint of one to the other. Its not fair to compare Leann’s 10 plus year career to the 3 year career of Carrie’s. Many people said Gretchen Wilson would be a country hit maker for years to come(which she isn’t).
But, maybe if Brad Paisley said it, it must be true.

There is a difference between an opinion and an educated opinion don’t you think. Brad Paisley has been there and done that in the business of country music. I’d say his opinion about a fellow artist carries a bit more substance and truth than what you, me, or anyone that might post here has to say.

I am so tired of the Carrie Underwood bashing here. Seriously, some of you sound like 90 year old ninnies who are stuck with your head in the sand, too stubborn to admit the truth. The truth is, that Carrie is an amazing singer..and she did an incredible job on I Told You So. You just don’t like Carrie for whatever reason, so you make up excuses why her performance was lacking…when it was flawless.
It is also unfair to blame Carrie for Randy’s lack of lines in the song. Perhaps Randy wanted it that way, so as not to steal the thunder from Carrie. It is Carrie’s single this time around, not Randy’s, even though it is his song that he wrote. I think he is a big boy and he agreed to the arrangment well in advance.
Carrie showed a ton of emotion in her performance of the song. The only reason some of you are bashing her performance, is because you don’t like Carrie. She has received universal praise all over the country, and even in the UK, for that performance. It was amazing.

He kept stopping and smiling at Carrie as she sang, so I think Randy just kinda was enjoying her performance of his song n didn’t care
