LeAnn Rimes Announces Divorce; Shania Twain on American Idol
- After seven years of marriage, LeAnn Rimes announced on her website that she and husband Dean Sheremet will divorce.
After much thoughtful mutual consideration, Deane and I have agreed to move forward with dissolving our marriage. This decision was amicable and we remain committed and caring friends with great admiration for one another. Thank you so much for all of your continued love and support – it is deeply appreciated.
- Mix Magazine’s Tom Kenny has an awesome interview with Dann Huff, in which the Keith Urban mega-producer talks candidly about the recording scene in Nashville:
[Kenny] Nashville in the mid-’90s was booming. What was that like?
[Huff] All of a sudden, it was money, money, money. As with any boom, quality control became something of an issue. There was just a lot of money being made. And our business was being remade and cemented. You find the nuggets of gold, but most of it was hurried-up product. Hurried-up product selling a lot of units.” - As a 14 year old kid, Keith Urban had a choice to make: KISS or Ricky Skaggs.
I only ever played in one rock band and I think I ended up playing four gigs and they ended up firing me,” Urban said. “I had just discovered Ricky Skaggs at the same time. So, as weird as it sounds, I was totally digging these Ricky Skaggs records and these Iron Maiden records and I was completely confused to what the hell I was supposed to do musically in my life. The article, courtesy of CanWest News Service’s Eric Vomers, also sheds light on some of the interaction between Urban and current tour-mate Taylor Swift.
- Craig Shelburne has a brief write-up on Brenda Lee’s Dynamite Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit.
- John Gerome of the AP profiles Michelle Branch:
At 26, the one-time pop princess is hopelessly out of step with pop. “I felt like an old lady,” Branch said with a giggle. “I didn’t know hardly anybody (VH1 or MTV) played.”
- Today’s country-goes-Broadway news: The Magnus theatre is Thunder Bay, Ontario, will feature a show about Hank Williams:
Hank Williams: The Show He Never Gave follows the story of the man behind the legend. This play with music presents the concert Hank Williams never actually made it to on New Year’s Eve in 1953. It is the concert as it might have played out if Williams had not died in the back seat of his Cadillac on his way to the performance.
The Show He Never Gave was written by Maynard Collins and stars local actor Danny Johnson as Williams.
- Tragedy struck Canada’s Big Valley Jamboree on August 1st, when a storm swept across the country music festival, killing a woman and injuring 75 other attendees. Tim McGraw, who was scheduled to close the festival, is heading back to Alberta for a make-up show that will be open only to Jamboree ticket holders. On Sept. 17th, McGraw will be joined onstage by music/comedy duo Williams and Ree and Canadian country star Gord Bamford.
- Bamford recently raised $170,000 for various charities through his Gord Bamford Charitable Foundation.
- Rumors abound that Shania Twain is gearing up for a comeback. What better way to launch one then with some facetime on America’s most popular TV show?
“She’s loving American Idol. She’s having the best time,” says a source close to the singer, who is filling Paula Abdul’s vacant seat during auditions Monday and Tuesday in the Windy City. “She and Simon have a really great rapport with each other. They’re funny together.”

I think I read somewhere that Deane is actually LeAnn Rimes’ husband’s name.

That would be Gord Bamford.

Funny about Huff because he seems to be behind a lot of the pop country stuff in my book that makes a ton of money. He certainly doesn’t go the traditional route much ever as far as I know.

I think that Canadian Hank Williams show should feature Ashley Monroe singing “Hank’s Cadillac” at the very beginning. She could be in the back seat along with Hank feeding him coffee and grits till he made it to the gig…
I’m just so excited about the combination of Shania Twain and American Idol I’m beside myself!…(lol)
While Timbo’s up north maybe we can make a trade! Canada can keep Tim and we get either Corb Lund or Doc Walker in exchange! The exchange will include Faith for Shania Twain! (lol)
If I see Dann Huff’s name on an album, I skip it over. Thanks Dann for saving me money! Also Dann with two n’s is too cutesy. Guess I’ll have to start calling myself Rickk…

Carrie’s new single premiered and it is country-rock at its finest.

No deal Rick – we need Doc!! ;) But I’m lovin’ the Can Con in the news today!! I really think you “traditionalists” down south would dig Gord Bamford, who considers his work the last bastion of
“Country” music in Canada. He’s had cuts put on hold with Alan Jackson and George Strait, but still waiting for them to actually record one.

“Carrie’s new single premiered and it is country-rock at its finest.”
I seriously doubt that. Unless your definition of country rock does not include The Byrds, Neil Young, and The Flying Burrito Brothers.
Maybe the term you were looking for was Pop-Rock?

I think maybe Stephen meant “country rock at its finest” as defined by maybe Rascal Flatts(?), or Keith Urban(?), or Jason Aldean(?), or Taylor Swift(?), or most likely Carrie’s previous songs like “Before He Cheats” or “Flat On The Floor”. The context is “current country rock”, not the historical nor significant varieties…

Can you picture Carrie performing that on the Opry? Think of the Opry legends backstage, Please won’t someone think of the Opry legends. lol And I dont think this song will go down in history like the beginning of the video suggests.

The song may be (very) pop but for what it is it’s pretty good.

And here we thought the “she hates her dad” lawsuit, back about 10 years ago, was going to be the extent of LeAnn’s dip in to Lindsay Lohanland.
We have to admit: this story here is way juicy.

Its neither odd nor is it a sign of Wild Child tendencies when someone who got married way too young gets divorced.
